But doesn't every system with rules reward the cheater? If anything, I'd say Capitalism at least gives more people the opportunity to cheat!

More seriously, I come from a pretty rich family composed of hard-working people for whom integrity is paramount, though, so maybe my perspective on millionaires is different. Sure there are a lot of scumbags, but in my experience, for each one of those there are ten who made it the right way.

So your parents own a business or two? Do they pay their workers a percentage of all profits generated by that worker's work? Or do they just stick to the common wage and keep the profit?

It isn't so much that all the rich are bad people out to swindle every poor person they see. I have met many decent rich folks, after all. But those type of rich folks live in the current world, only instead of trying to make the world a better place, they just play by the rules set before them and focus primarily on their own relationships. They may not be out to ruin people's lives, but they still fire people when they need to, regardless of whether the person could do the job or not. They usually just see the paper, and not the person or that person's family, or that person's pantry when making such decisions.

Even the decent rich people make bussiness decisions, and not personal desicions. Bussiness thrives on ignoring the personal. Me, I'm poor, and whatever my skills may be, I need capital to live, who is going to give me capital? I can't get money anywhere except other people, and every dime I take from someone else, is a dime they don't have to buy food.

It isn't a matter of whether you want to be cheating other people or even consider yourself as cheating others. Your survival depends on making money, and you don't even own your work. That's the difference between communism and capitalism, in a communist nation the government owns the work, and in a capitalist nation the corperations own the work, notice how in neither of them do individuals own the work.

I am not a millionaire because I haven't yet figured out a way to monetize my happiness. It must be worth a lot since its so rare. Monetizing my misery hasn't paid much because the market appears to be flooded with that product.

Stupidity has nothing to do with it, it's all about your ability to sell and to have the right credentials.

Huh?

If the system rewards cheaters, then your employer must be a cheater.

If not you would lose your job as the company goes out of business.
(either because your employer is not a cheater and not being rewarded,
or a better cheater got your employer's goods.)

Yeah, because capitalism is based on rigorous honesty, and a moral imperative to never buy influence, create monopolies, start wars, or screw workers out of anything, ever. LOL

I have learned that money isn't important because rich people use
money for power, but power doesn't come from being rich.

A percentage of profits should be free to individuals. It isn't a matter
of whether you want to be cheating other people or even consider
yourself as cheating others.

Individuals do not own their work. That's why communism and capitalism
are the same. Rich individuals own the corporations, and then cheat
their workers. They do not see people's families.

Corporations just follow the rules set before them by the individuals
in government. It just goes on and on. They still fire people when they
need to, regardless of whether the person could do the job or not.

I didn't contradict myself, I just wasn't clear enough, which demonstrates my point. You can be smart enough to take a car apart and rebuild it without any training, but you won't make any money unless you can sell that ability.

You seem to think intelligence is singular and applicable to anything, but it isn't. Intelligence is limted to certain areas, aka being good with math, or with engineering.

This is what leads to divisions such as the jocks vs the nerds. The nerds have high mathmatical intelligence but often with lower social capability. On the other hand, you can have rich busness owners who are too stupid to. Run their own equipment, but are able to sell their products and services.

Social ability =/= intelligence.

I lack the focus and drive to pursue the ideas and enterprises which I have developed to their (potentially) profitable ends.
I also have a fear of losing that which I have attained thus far, making my ability to use my own available capital to fund such ideas almost non-existent.
A generalization: a majority of self-made, hard working people who have become millionaires have the focus, drive and the courage to take risks necessary to make a small amount of start-up money into much larger amounts of money. Intelligence is not a major part of the equation although a huge absence of it is certainly detrimental to the figures.

ANSWER: You are not meant to be a millionaire, because you are wage labor.

I keep spending all my money on hair-brained schemes to take over the world. one day they're going to pay off, but until then...

Also, that big financial crash wasn't exactly helpful.

Oh, and finally: I don't trust money I don't earn. This has held me back once or twice, but the warm glow inside is enough.

PS: The rate publishers charge is pretty excessive. I've seen at least one contract where the author gets a measly 15% on hard copy books sold. if you want to support authors, buy E-books (45% goes to the author in the same contract.)

A vast panoply of reasons, the foremost of which is:

I do not possess a million dollars.

Aka, the current system is set up not to allow extreme inequality, but to maintain that inequality. Don't people ever want to make life easier for everyone and reward people for the work they do rather then their birth? (I say birth because being a rich person or business owner isn't more difficult work then many commmon jobs, changing your class however, is significantly more difficult and generally requires a particular social skill set, or a miracle of luck, the latter only applying to those with enough intelligence and awareness to see and exploit the lucky opportunity)

DarkLightHitomi wrote:

NO! There are not enough resources to give everybody an easy life. We have to keep lower classes ignorant and oppressed, so they work hard for us at very low wages.

Don't be silly, it's not that there aren't enough resources to give everybody and easy life. It's that there aren't enough resources to give everybody an easy life and still make some filthy rich.

Besides, what fun is it being filthy rich if there aren't poor people to oppress.

I've never seen a million dollars, and therefore I don't believe it exists. Harumph.

Silver Crusade

I can confirm that it exists. I have seen and held a million dollars when I worked at a bank. There was too much security around to run off with it, though. That and my moral scruples.

Mine is but a simple reason set.

1. Lack of precognitive ability regarding technology, or I would have bet on/invested in/stayed with different companies.

2. Surfeit of ego and marketing skill-set for purposes of reaching the proper demographic to get filthy rich over fantasy-themed smut of excessively detailed and prurient nature.

3. Inexperience with the proper channels by which to audition for and obtain voiceover work, because apparently if I had a dollar for every time someone said I should be doing voiceover work I would likely be well on my way to my second million, if not sufficiently experienced/reknowned to have earned my first.

4. Excessive ethics prohibit usury, murder, extortion, and perpetuating the sort of fraud that makes people ludicrously wealthy on the stock market.

5. Insufficient investment capital to establish my solar farm energy empire. Maybe a kickstarter is in order...

Because if most people were millionaires then there would be nothing special or advantageous to being a millionaire, all the prices would change sufficiently to accommodate the wealth distrobution which would be about where it is now just with a different decimal point, and people would start threads asking why we aren't trillionaires.

Economics is an artificial construct, therefore easy to manipulate for those in the right position.

People have this misconception that economics as we know it is an absolute law of nature, that cannot be discarded.

Because the majority of people in my countries earn about 1,000 USD a month, there are 8 million laborers (civil servants not included) and less than 10 percent earn more than 2,000 USD a month in the statistics.

A millionare (in USD) would require at least 82 years of working if I don't belong to that 10% of people.
