Goblins want Fireworks!

1 person marked this as a favorite.

You are goblins of the Licktoad tribe, who live deep in Brinestump Marsh, south of the hated man-town called Sandpoint. Once, other goblins tried to burn Sandpoint down, and they would have been legends if they had succeeded. But they didn’t bring enough fire, and got themselves killed as a result. Yesterday, your tribe discovered that one of your own had been using forbidden arts and was engaged in one of the greatest of taboos—writing things down. In fact, rumor holds that what he was writing was a history of your tribe! There’s no swifter way to bring about bad luck than stealing words out of your mind by writing them down, and so your tribe had no choice. You branded the goblin’s face with letters to punish him, which is why everyone calls him Scribbleface now, and then you ran him out of town, took all of his stuff, and burned down his hut.
That’s where things got interesting, because before you all burned down his hut, Chief Gutwad found a weird box within the building. Inside was a map and a lot of fireworks—fireworks that immediately came to use in burning the hut down. Then, this morning, Gutwad announced that tonight there would be a feast in order to drive out any lingering bad luck from Scribbleface’s poor decisions. But perhaps even more exciting, all of you have been secretly invited to meet at Chief Gutwad’s Moot House. Why would the chief want to speak to you? It can only mean that he’s got an important mission for you all... one that the other goblins of the tribe couldn’t pull off. This could be your chance to go down in Licktoad history!

You enter the great Chief Gutwad's Moot House and stand before his grimy stolen weapon collection and bloody human trophy heads.

Sitting before you on a 6 foot high (teetering precariously) throne Chief Gutwad grunts and waves at you and a fat headed goblin you know as Slorb self importantly tells you lesser beings:

Kalam lingers about the outside edge of tent. The cow bell around his neck makes a clang on each step, the only sound of his movement. Furtive, eyes cast about, looking at all gathered .... and lingering overly long on each and every shiny object they carry

Mogmurch wrote:

Chief Gutwad looks oddly thoughtful and clever for a second while considering Mogmurch..

A great flatulence explodes from Cheif shaking his chair so hard pieces of it fall off to the ground but unbelievably it stays standing

Slorb gasps, "heeeeuuh! Chief say Mogmurch gots hidden potential! it explode and don't expect!"

the room fills with "hidden potential"

Female Goblin 1 (HP 2/13 | AC:16 | T:14 | FF:13 | CMB: +1 | CMD: 14 | Fort:+4 | Ref:+3(+2) | Will:+1 | Init:+3 | Perc: +9 | Speed: 30 ft.)

Reta quickly leaps back from the chief, knocking her oversized head on a collection of trinkets hanging from the tent ceiling. Much cursing ensues as she pulls the trinkets down and begins stabbing at them on the ground with her knife.

In a loud, overenthusiastic voice, Reta belts out her battle song: Reta chop and reta bite! Reta slay and Reta fight! Reta stab abd Reta smite! Reta kills it all just right!

Chief and all others in the room explode in maniacal laughter as Reeta fights trophies

At the start of Reeta's great goblin song Chief reaches down and pounds his fist with the beat.. Straight onto poor Slorbs head

Slorb dazedly drones, "Chief so impressed, Slorb can feel enthusiasm"

Slorb points to the outside edge of the tent to Kalam and importantly shrieks, "You there puss head! Who you be what you do?"

Upon getting Kalam's attention Slorb becomes immediately unsettled and his anxiety to protect himself and his belongings runs down his leg to puddle at his feet

Slorb quivers, "aaah I know that one... He bad goblin, bad goblin be good goblin, we like bad goblin Kalam"

GM has been formatting text wrong! bad GM, blue text is for messages like this. Regular text or italics is for story actions and bold text works well for statements. thanks guys!

Slorb immediately looks abashed and deflects, "No No No, Chief honor Slorb soooo it flow out!"

Slorb brightens up, " OK ok ok, you go now! Tonight big fire party, we burn wicked Scribbleface hut and give delicious eats. You go get ready, tonight we find who brave fierce goblin"

Slorb ushers you out of the Moot House and you stand in the middle of the Goblin village with a full day ahead of you. At the edge of the village you see a small pillar of white smoke still rising from Scribbleface's hut and lots of other goblins gathering his things to make the biggest bonfire ever!

PC's if you like feel free to take actions during this day

Reta makes off to her hovel and spends the time sharpening her short sword and making sure her bow is properly strung. While working, she continues humming her song to herself, but at a volume level several notches too loud.

Chief Gutwad nods to Kalam from his throne while hiding a great sharp toothy smile. Slorb stands stricken.

Outside the day is warm and swampy humid. There is great bustle about with goblins preparing for the great big fire night.

Kalam notices that scribbleface's stuff has already been ransacked by the chief and nothing is left of value. He has been run out of town leaving a box behind that Chief took for himself. You know it contained fireworks...

You have the whole day to yourself, how will you use it? You can make knowledge local checks to learn about the nearby area, find NPC's to interact with, look for foods or shinies in the camp etc.

Roll a perception check Rheta. Like this without space [ dice=Perception]1d20+9[ /dice]

Zoog also roll Perception to find keg of spirits

Zoog finds a keg collection of mutty ale (goblin spit water and ferns fermented) but it is guarded by Roxt, a gritty looking goblin holding a dog slicer across his lap sitting atop a keg in front of the mutty ale hut.

He looks up and Zoog and says, "No Ale till fire! What you want?"

Male M Goblin Cleric 1 (HP 10/10 | AC:17 | T:13 | FF:15 | CMB: ? | CMD: ? | Fort:+3 | Ref:+2 | Will:+4 | Init:+6| Perc: +2 | Speed: 30 ft.)

no ale till fire? EASY! Just make fire.

Zoog wrote:

Zoog nods his head and casts firebolt into the weeds at Roxt's feet

Zoog wrote:

Rheta find many a bug under rock. Lots of spideys.. They die with silent screams.

Roxt watches the firebolt sizzle the ground at his feet and immediately pulls out his dog slicer and looks menacingly at Zoog.

Roxt looks at Zoog curiously, " Not. That. Fire. BIGGG Fire! I give ale for BIG BIG Fire. Chief trust Roxt with ale, Roxt big goblin so he scare you little goblin from take ale! You want slicy slicy!?"

Male M Goblin Cleric 1 (HP 10/10 | AC:17 | T:13 | FF:15 | CMB: ? | CMD: ? | Fort:+3 | Ref:+2 | Will:+4 | Init:+6| Perc: +2 | Speed: 30 ft.)
Zoog wrote:
Roxt want BIIGGG fire to be even bigger? Zoog want bonfire to reach skies in honor of Chief and Zargonel. Roxt not want to cheat chief out of BIGGG fire hmmm?

Roxt looks thoughtful for a moment then exclaims, "Roxt want BIG FIRE! YESSS! But you give Roxt snack first! Roxt sit here and secret drink but no snack! no Good! Bring Roxt beer snack!"

Male Goblin 1 (HP 11/11(temp 2/11) | AC:17 | T:15 | FF:13 | CMB: -2 | CMD: 12 | Fort:+2 | Ref:+6 | Will:+1 | Init:+4 | Perc: +8 | Speed: 30 ft.)

Kalam looks about scribleface's stuff and finds it all rubbish. Turning on heels Kalam looks casts his gaze over the town thoughtfully. Considers where best in camp to cause mischief, er.....steal things, er....um.... inquire about purchases.... yes... that one!

Rolls knowledge local to best gauge were to find valuables (or fun!) in camp. Rolls knowledge perception to pick up on current events and opportunities in camp (if visible from where I am, consider if Kalam can see Roxt and if the attention of Roxt is most sharply fixed on Zoog)

Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14

Knowledge(local): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24

M Goblin Alchemist 1 | HP 5/9 | AC:17 | T:15 | FF:13 | CMB: -2 | CMD: 12 | Fort:+3 | Ref:+6 | Will:+1 | Init:+4 | Perc: +4 | Speed: 30 ft.

"Hidden potential". Me bet scribblenuts haz "hidden potential" in hut.

Mog leaves the Chief's hut and wanders aimlessly for a time, keeping an eye on the hut to be burned.

Stealth: not hiding, but being inconspicuous: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (20) + 12 = 32
Perception: anything of interest on the outside of Scribble's hut: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

Female Goblin 1 (HP 2/13 | AC:16 | T:14 | FF:13 | CMB: +1 | CMD: 14 | Fort:+4 | Ref:+3(+2) | Will:+1 | Init:+3 | Perc: +9 | Speed: 30 ft.)

Reta enjoys her spider torturing immensely. Prior to the bonfire, she prepares by dressing in her finest attire: a halfling-sized corset and bridal veil.

Kalam finds nothing of value while rooting through Scribbleface's burnt out hut, it has been looted many times over and golbins are busy tearing its remains apart for the big fire.

Kalam and Mog both overhear a heated conversation between Zoog and Roxt and you hear that Roxt wants mutty ale snacks for a keg of mutty ale in secret trade.

Kalam remembers that of course Mutty ale goes best with swamp giant amphibians or giant bugs. These can be aquired just outside of town in the swamp or perhaps in town kitchens...

Rheta is fond of playing with bugs perhaps she wants to go find some big bug snacks?

Swamp is scary though, you hear stories about "Lotslegs Eat Goblin Babies Many"

Option 1: If you're going to the swamp to look for amphibians or bugs to kill and trade to Roxt you need to roll a survival check (easy) and be aware you will probably have a decent fight.
Option 2: if you are going to the kitchens you might be able to sneak in and steal food but it is very busy so you could try stealth with a very high DC.. or other methods

Mog frowns at the lack of interesting things around the village. His mind wanders to his studies and begins to search just outside the village for reagents for his potions.

Knowledge(Nature): Looking for reagents by which to craft potions, alchemist's fire, acid, smokesticks, and tanglefoot bags.: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25

Would Mog know of anyone or anywhere he can obtain certain reagents for such? He's got a decent Sleight of Hand.

Mog finds an abundance of potion reagents in this rich swampland.

Mog can attempt to craft any 2 potions (today) for 1/2 the full purchase price.

Mog thinks to himself and remembers the clan fortune teller has an abundance of glass vials and potions already prepared. But Mog shivers in fear of the clan fortune teller because she is of equal or higher stature and ability as the Chief. Mog despairs that pulling any quick moves on the Fortune teller are not likely to succeed because she can likely see the future.

Reta replies, You wants kill bug? Reta like kill bug. Big bug hunt fun! Reta chop bug! Slay bug! Smash bug! Dead!

Grinning widely, Reta tosses her finery aside in favor of her armor. Stringing her bow, she glances at Kalam and asks, We find other gobbos fer helpin' with big bug? More gobbos, bigger the bug!

This cup of alcohol is so potent that only a goblin can stomach it (worth 3 normal drinks). If Zoog drinks he needs to make a poison fortitude save DC: 12, +2 moral bonus on str and cha. failed save also gets same bonus but character also takes -2 dex. Effects last 3 hours
