Had an amusing thought to this, but whether it'll work (or even capable of being accomplished) I have no idea.

How about creating a forum/sub-forum only where "special" people have access to view/post. This area can be called the "Spam Area". Instead of banning spammers, they have their "access" changed so that they can only post on these "special" areas. Anything that is attempted to be posted by those individuals is instead automatically redirected to those "special" forums/sub-forums. "Normal" people won't have access to these "special" areas, and thus, can't access them.

These forums/sub-forums can be cleaned, say, every month to conserve server space.

Going on the assumption that most of the spam posts are just bots, the spammers will assume that they're accounts haven't been deleted and their bots will just keep on posting.

Perhaps more trouble than it's worth to implement, but I do find it mildly amusing to see if it'd work.

Flagged a new one selling fake passports in;
Champions of Purity (Ironic spot to put it)
Pathfinder Battles
Way of the Wicked—Book One: Knot of Thorns (PFRPG)

I think a passport to ban town would be a nice present for the snake

Since these spam have contact data and a website, I wonder if a "string" filter in the post would help nail these guys after a submitted post.

Better idea is to make it look like it's posted in the regular threads, but instead is posted in an alias of the threads.

I don't get it... What is the point of posting spam threads with nonsensical titles? Are the spammers writing their bots so abysmally stupid that they don't know that will make them deleted faster or are they so abysmally stupid that they are unable to code a bot to make a sensible title?

Hey, a strange spammer is welcoming the new intern.

Spambots could at least learn how to insert link... *sigh*

Scarab Sages

Three more a%&+%&@ spammer threads popped up within the last hour in the Off Topic Section. Not sure if anyone else flagged them, so I went ahead and did it.

Likewise, more bones for the frozen fields.

Bogies!

allnp allnp is posting spam. I've flagged the posts.

Flagged some more... Seriously, with more sensible names those posts could hide in the Off-Topic longer.

If they titled their threads with inflammatory political statements people would just <hide> the threads without opening them. We would never even know they were filled with spam! It would be an ingenious strategy.

It would not work. For every person who hides inflammatory political statement thread without opening there is three who will enter to post opposite views and two who will bring popcorn just to watch the thread burn.

Mmmm...

Popcorn.

Same old crap. They could spam with something new...

There should be law specifically forbidding repeating the same spam over and over...

Would it matter? I think an utter disregard for the law (and courtesy) is pretty much the hallmark of spammers.

What kills me is that some people, somewhere continue to reply to spam. WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE?! :P

Also, while I appreciate the downsides and limitations of CAPTHCAs, I was surprised to learn that Paizo doesn't use them.

Captchas are mainly intended to separate humans from bots. I'm pretty sure these aren't bots—if they are, they've spent way more money programming them to work through registration and post on our site than any value they could possibly ever get out of that. (Another benefit of not having off-the-shelf messageboard software!)

New spammer flagged.

Damn, those bots are learning!

Not only they are offering spellcasting services, they offer them in Gamer Talk section!

If they only learned basic grammar and punctuation we would be doomed...

Just noticed that one. It took awhile before I realized that it was spam.

Perhaps the 'errors' in grammar are really the hidden writing of the spell...and thus doomed we are...

I think Dr. Love is going to be the archetype of my next PC. Gnome Bard, yes?

We need charm person on behalf of another spell. I think that there was a witch archetype or hex that allowed doing something like that but we need more such options...

Spoiler:
Bestow Charm
Prerequisites: Spell Focus (Enchantment)
Benefits: When casting charm person, charm animal, charm monster or similar spells, the character can select another creature within the spell's range as the one who is object of the affection instead of oneself.

Having a tough adventure?

Need some backup support?

It gives me great pleasure to introduce you to the future of construct allies. . .The Enforcement Droid, Series 209, or ED-209, are a fully-automated series of constructs created by Omni Consumer Products. Currently, the units are programmed for urban pacification, but OCP has also negotiated contracts with the military for use in war.

Get one for yourself today!

How is your Craft (programming) skill?

Wha?

Oh, too bad. ED-209 does not recognize your authority. Put down your weapons. *humming and the clicking of numerous safeties being turned off* You have six seconds to comply.

Ohmy. A new spambot tried to be original and made five posts instead of the regular one or three...

It might have missed the point by posting in Website Feedback section.

Grand Lodge

Dropped the flags on it.

Just saw a big wave of spam down there.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Damn, only after flagging them all it occurred to me that I should flag them with "in the wrong forum" instead... Neither contains/asks for advice, rules questions or matters related to Pathfinder campaign setting discussions...

"Breaks other guidelines" is the normal flag for these things, isn't it? We don't want 'em moved ... we want 'em "black flagged"!

1 person marked this as a favorite.

But we want them moved... We want them moved to the void beyond stars and feed to the eldritch abominations existing there!

Giving an eldritch abomination heartburn seems like a good way to become such Things' new hobby...

This is one of the great mysteries of our time. Who thinks, "Hey, Julia Newmar, whom I've never met, just sent me an e-mail (Subject: Hey Sexy!@#&$6) about some dick pills - Let's open that" or "ooh, Romanian passport! Just what I was looking for in the latest 'Fighters/Monks/Rogues (sorry, "rouges") suck' forum"?

I echo bugleyman: WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE??

@ Gary and Co.

Do you guys want to keep us flagging them as "break other guidelines",or is there another option that you'd prefer?

Would a "Mark as Spam/Unsolicited Publicity" option help you in spotting us flagging the miscreants, or is it all the same for you guys?
