I'm petitioning the tech team to add this to the forum FAQ. ;-)

Is there anyway for that spammy review to be removed? It is still up, while spammy posts get removed fairly quickly.

I'll have to take a look at it on monday. Specifically, the moderation tools for reviews are different than those for messages. But we'll get it down. Still, wow. That sucked.

That's a bunch of new spam threads in General Discussion...

A true spam war on General Discussion, those Divination/Enchanters Wizards are really persistent...

Dear gods, looks like someone's really busy with their Harrow deck.

When we're letting our mouse fall upon that Flag button like the sword of Ragathiel, is it useful to flag every post the spambot has made? Or is it just sufficient to flag the first and/or last? It doesnt take very long to whiz through their posting history flagging each post, but if it's unnecessary, I may as well save the bother.

Makes me wish I knew enough about programming to make a computer virus that destroys computers and send it back their way.

It does help with cleanup, especially when people inevitably post in one of the threads. Also, putting the link to the profile in this thread at least helps me a lot.

The plague of Deskari has fallen upon the Inner Sea Gods reviews.

Philadelphia recently started targeting "Junk signs" (those "Sell homes fast!" type of thing stuck randomly on telephone poles) by adding them to the city's robodialer. Apparently they would get a call every 15 minutes until the signs were taken down. It's supposedly been very effective.

Clearly Paizo needs a robodialer to harass spammers.

Or a Beowulf cluster of Borg pugwampis configured as a botnet to infinite-click the spammer's website(s).

The last time I posted a graphic description of the kind I'd like to post now for what I'd like to see done to the spammers, it got deleted. So, uh, I'll just sit here and imagine it. Graphically :)

And straight away I get to use the new protocol. How annoying. :(

Same guy back again.

I didn't realize his thread was spam at first. I thought it was just more confusing rules jargon.

I totally want an annoying NPC goblin witch that harasses passersby, trying to sell love spells.

Umpteenth verse, same as the first. :P

Is there any way to stop all these from happening?

Marc Radle wrote:

Not really, depending upon how skilled they are. In theory, they could block posts from that user or that user's IP address or even that user's domain. Most of the professional scammers operate behind a block of bots now, so the actual posts are being made from your grandmother's PC in New Jersey, though, and blocking that will only keep your granny from learning about Pathfinder (and force them to start using my granny's computer in Iowa).

For this specific person we could probably just blacklist any post with these specific content words. But that's work to set up and more work to maintain when someone else comes along.

Just posting to add to the previous masses complaining about SPAM.

My 'favourite' spam message I ever received read:

Spoiler:

'I can make your man volcano explode just like the famous Etna!'

Which you can sing to the tune of 'The Girl from Ipanema'

with it posting almost 1 post/new thread every 1 to 2 minutes

Huh, this one's really small. It's kinda the runt of the spam litter. Let's name it Wilbur.

Or just smack it with the Sphere of Oblivion. Y'know, whatevs.

They certainly seem to know when it's after business hours in the Pacific time zone so no one will be in the office to stop them. :P

Cheezy Louizy these folks are persistent.

They are almost robotic in their posting.

Clearly, Paizo needs to hire an elite team of Asians to handle the midnight hours. ;D

Hey, look! I made a joke about Asians using computers that wasn't about how they always use computers! Look how progressive this kobold is. Next I'll be making a joke about how Paizo needs to hire some women chefs because their long hair supports the funny hats better. There's no stopping this politically correct machine!

I think a new and good spam stopper option and method would be to add a new flag to the flag system, Bot/script.

If say 20 people flag the same post with this new Flag, that User get's denied the ability to post until Paizo gets to and gives a nah or yay.

Does Paizo have a captcha on their user registration system? It won't help against manual spammers, but the bots should be defeated.

Azure: And then the bots start using that to hide all my posts! Is that what you want?

At least, I assume it's the bots. Who else would want to hide this?

Guys, hang on. This is the thread for dodgy accounts. If there's anything we can't accuse this guy of, it's subtlety.

The posts are there and visible, just no more posting until paizo gives the judgement.

And older members have more weight than newer ones

I am this close to recommending captcha on every post every time every day.

Okay, maybe during a pobationary period for new users and Gorbacz.

I wonder if the bots feel lonely. They should talk to a love marriage specialist.

And we have another one!

Edit: Should that have been "We have Spam Sign!"?

Apparently these are people, says Vic.

The sad part is that for those kind of thing to be that persistent, somewhere someone must be buying what they sell. :(

Or they just get paid for posting it. There certainly seems to be an increase in this junk. I'd link the spammer that defaced Paizo Publishing General Discussion forum, but Mikaze already did. I flagged the posts anyway. All 22 of them...
