For all intents and purposes when calculating usage of abilities, number of dice, level bonuses, and so on, you are your current level until you have gathered all four steps, at which point you have fully progressed into your new level.

Am going to say 4 uses of Lay on Hands, since you always round down. Lay on Hands also cannot heal more than 1d6 until level 4, at which point it is 2d6.

Male Halfling (HP: 20/20)
Status:
(AC: 16/13/16 ; Percep: +6; Init: +2; Fort: +6; Ref: +3; Will: +2 [+4 vs. fear]; CMD: 15; CMB +3; Rage: 8/8)
Skills:
(Acro +6, Appr +1, Bluff +3, Climb +6, Diplo +3, Disg +3, EscArt +1, Intim +3, Perc +6, Ride +5, SenMot +0, Stealth +11, Surv +0, Swim +5)
Bloodrager (Fire) 2

After being mauled so badly by the bear, Gathien will select A (BAB, Hit die). Rolling for HP: 1d12 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13.

Updating the sheet now.

Patcher, I assume that we'll lose the trail overnight (due to its age)?

The DC will increase, so that depends on your roll.

I assume that I can't take 20 on a tracking roll? Or can I as long as we're willing to move at a snail's pace?

Quote:
For finding tracks, you can retry a failed check after 1 hour (outdoors) or 10 minutes (indoors) of searching.

Unless you wish to spend 20 hours, then no, you can't take 20.

Right, I knew there was a reason it wasn't practical.... Anyone got a level of ranger in their pack that I can borrow? :)

Ok, thanks Patcher. I'll go make a roll in the IC thread.

Male Human Cavalier 1A

I will go with A. 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

I guess I get 9 (6+3) with the average + 1 rule

Not that I was planning to, but if you want to multiclass, whether to another base class or a prestige, I'm assuming you have to announce that intent before you take your first step, is that correct?

Jonas: Was that your hp roll? Did you mean to roll a d20?

Trying to boost my abyssmal combat rolls to date; I'll select A.

BAB increases to +1
hp roll; taking +1 for favored class 1d8 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 3 + 1 = 5
Converting a roll of "1" (which I seem to be getting which annoying frequency) to "5", I end up with "9" more hp for a total of "24".

DM adjudication request: My 0-lvl Guidance spell allows me to grant a +1 bonus to most types of rolls. Outside of combat, or some other time sensitive situation, there's little reason for me to not cast this spell when someone attempts something. For example, I could have boosted Gathien's roll for both weather prediction and tracking by +1. Usually, when someone attempts something though, they've already made the roll and sometimes the effects have already been applied.

How should I handle the use of this spell (or any spell which might provide out of combat bonuses)?

Okay then, going to go with Option D. I'M SUCH A REBEL NOT GOING HIT POINTS OH MY ABADAR! ;-).

But in all seriousness, this gives me more benefit to the group, essentially a floating pool of another 4d6 hp's for whoever needs them, and my saves improve drastically.

Male Human Cavalier 1A

ACK!! That was supposed to be my HP roll.

1d10 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

Same difference I suppose :-)!

Yes, I should have mentioned. When you multi-class, you announce your multiclass choice right away, and then pick steps, picking HD/HP/BAB - Saves - Skills - other abilities as appropriate for 1st level in that multiclass. (for 1st level multiclass, at least)

It puts me at a bit of an impasse. On one hand, it makes sense. On the other hand, it also assumes you are all clustered tightly together every second of the day and that you are simultaneously following the five others in the camp all the time. A lot of these checks are also of the "let me have a look/let me think" variety, so there are few physical signs of "I'm currently doing this" (In my opinion) to be able to do this "passively" (which I'm assuming you're asking about).

What could work is if, in-character, a character goes to you and asks for your guidance. It doesn't have to be a full interaction, just a mention of "X walks over to Rorgrym and asks for his guidance before <insert performing skill here>." Sound fair? Annoying?

Frail wizard that Peregrine is, I'll take option A, and the extra HP from favored class.

HP: 1d6 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 2 + 1 = 4

[edit: so I'll be taking that average roll then...for a total of 7 hp.]

I'll be going with option D. I'm taking precise bombs as my first discovery so I can throw into a crowd with a little bit of control. It will also give me Poison use and poison resistance +2.

I think it safe to say that Peregrine will settle with muttering a few more cranky things then going to bed.

Shall we settle a watch order and assume we move ahead with the course of action that has been decided. Peregrine would suggest that he take he is wanted to stand a watch that the first or last shift would be idea because of his spell preparations.

While I am not working again until Wednesday, I am currently sick so I may not post much if I don't feel up to getting out of bed.

I received an email from Ingle last night. Real life is currently holding him up and he will be absent or rather inactive for an unspecified amount of time. Though you should know.

I wish to apologise for my lacklustre participation the last two weeks - which does not help since I'm supposed to be the DM.

I am physically not doing very well and am perpetually exhausted. I am mentally stressed. I don't know when this will subside. I want to be more active but I have a lot of commitments IRL as well: studies, pets, ect. .

Having said that, I will try to participate more.

1) Do what u need to do Patcher. Get well.
2) Since others are readying weapons, Kragath will also draw his sword if someone else is carrying a torch.

Gathien, love your foreshadowing! I'm designing a character who will multiclass to Oracle, and now I see how dreams and premonitions can make that transition more dramatic and interesting. Thanks! 8)

Thanks. :) I figured it makes much more sense than suddenly just leveling up to Oracle and being stricken with a curse out of nowhere.

Just checking in to see what the state of affairs is. Hope you're doing okay Patcher. As they say here in Korea, "Fighting!"*

*I.e. Konglish for: do your best and hang in there.

So…

In more seriousness, I'm sorry to see this go, and I'll keep it in my tab groups for some time yet. I know from first-hand experience how hard things can be, so I'll wait.

So am I being too optimistic when I hope that Patcher comes back?

"Optimistic" yes, "too" we'll see. for the short answer.

For the longer answer, I'd actually volunteer to be interim GM if I thought I could pull it off, because it could be months or even years (but I'm just re-learning how to play).

I've checked a few of his other games and he hasn't posted there either since early in the month.

Patcher (and everyone) --

With the optimistic hope that this will restart soon, I just thought I should inform people that if it does between the 22 and 30th and I don't respond, it's not that I've lost interest -- it's that I'm on vacation. I'll be back and full of my usual reply-filled goodness at that time.

(What can I say, I keep hoping, I like the party, the character and Patcher's GM-ing style... and picking on Ingle. :) )
