Female Half-Elf/Human (Bloodline Fey) Sorceress/8

So can I take my level up now as a level in Druid? How would the magics work mixed together? Would I get to pick an animal companion?

Male Orc Expert 5

1. You can but you honestly shouldn't.

2. They don't They're separate wiht caster levels based on you're now weakened class levels. Yes, and in the Ragnvald and friends group we'd have a word for it; rations.

I would suggest not taking an animal at this point since his level will be tied to your druid level and not overall level. Level 1 pets don't last long.

Shouldn't go Druid?

No. Just stay sorceress. You'll be going forwards rather than backwards if you did otherwise.

After a lot of fooling around with multiclasses I have come believe just staying in one lane is more efficient. Most certainly at 7th lvl.

Fluid Inter-dimensional physically detached consciousness Roguish Healer/4

Hmmm. Perhaps so. I've yet to play a multi-classed character. Seems most of the Runes group think it's not a very good idea, so I'll stick with sorceress. I'll look into that thing that Tirion mentioned to replace multi-talented.

Alana - look at it this way, you can be a sorceress who can cast 4th level spells like Black Tentacles. Or you can stick with third level sorceress spells and leard a few weak nature tricks and learn to cast Entangle with a DC of 14 or so.

Multi classing with a purpose, arcane trickster, arcane archer, etc is fine. Single level dips are usually a good way make an unsurvivable character.

I am back from a great week in Maine, but I am heading off in a few days to go to Gencon.

I did not see any moose, but I did do a lot of paddling and I saw eight loons all hanging out on the lake with me. I had a blast!

Welcome back. We are trying to determine whether we should use Celestra as bait to draw out more ogres. So far, she has not objected.

Male Orc Expert 5

Let me just go find my strategy cap....

Male Half Orc Rog5 Cav 3: HP:84/84, - AC: 21/T:14/FF:18 - Perception: +12(Dark Vision) F: +6/R: +8/W: +4 - CMB: +11 - CMD: 25, Speed: 30ft, Init: +2 (+4)

Harry isn't having a bar of it.

His Order vow is: "The warrior must remain loyal to his allies and must always work to further the aims of the group. He must protect his allies from harm and defend their honor when called into doubt". He sees allowing the group to commit mass suicide by storming a fort to be contra to common sense, let alone its aims. That they are wasting time with a hideously lethal sideshow while the real evil is elsewhere. Taking the fort when they were garden variety Ogres wouldn't have been a problem for us, but we have what, 20+ more of them or something and a pile of their leader types?

On average, one of those Ogres can kill one of us in 1-2 rounds, on average it takes one of us much longer to kill one of them. Even flanked up and hasted nailing in with sneak attack dice on every hit it took Harry two full rounds to drop one. Hows everyone elses DPS?

Really not sure how a fort full of Level 5 Ogres is a thing, but the Leaders must be nuts. 150+hp? really?

Normal Ogres are about 30hp and a pretty straightforward attack, these guys were hitting us on low numbers, doing savage damage, and had 105hp or something. They are Stone Giants.

/pass

I'm not even sure passing's an option yet. That's partly why I'm just trying to move things along. The DM has all but said this was not a route the developer of this part of the AP expected (because of aforementioned suicide).

In other news KArlan's going to have a private think without the noise around him. Which there currently is quite a bit. And none of it particularly useful for any scenario.

VC - Sydney, Australia

Yep, trying to move it on too, clearly the fort is not the place for us to be

I need to visit Norway

It seems you guys have found yourselves in some bizarre fortress of death. Beginning to sound a bit like Omaha Beach. Boulders instead of machine guns. 3 Rounds from now.

Yeah was a totally unexpected level of meatgrinder, those Ogres were right off the chain. Was a rude shock seeing the party members getting one rounded, especially as we had all the cards - a set ambush the whole works.

That said, at least Harry had a heart to heart with the Rangers - exposing their duplicity, and also wouldn't go for the so called 'sneak in approach' - which would have ended like THIS and our party in the pit.

I vote that we do not challenge the guy who used to wield those swords, even the small ones.

I would love to get up on the wall somewhere and cast Rain of Frogs and then watch them just wander around eating and poisoning ogres.

VC - Sydney, Australia

Not sure the Ogres would struggle with a DC13 Fort save :p

Male Gnome Sorcerer/9 - (HP: 49/49 - AC20;FF17;T18 - F+5;R+6;W+7 - Init+9 - Per+11)

True - but they would still take 2d6 damage every round and I can keep the frog up as long as I can concentrate. They could clear a courtyard and probably follow the ogres inside the fort.

If you all do not like Rain of Frogs, I am open to other Level 3 spells. Just not sure which would be most useful.

@ZZ & Runes - OK I will skip the multitalented and the idea of multiclassing with Druid and opt for the Arcan Training, assuming ZZ is OK with this. I'll go ahead and get Alana's level up done normally.

@All - It's my 30th birthday today and I have plans to attend a dinner theater tonight and then have friends over afterwards. I have a lot to get done today, but I will do my best to get Alana taken care of and to catch up on posting in the other threads.

Twilightrose - congrats on the birthday. Have a great night.

Alana - one of the most useful spells is Black tentacles. It can hider/grapple enemies and does damage. It is a great battlefield control spell.

Others that could be quite useful - Charm Monster, Stoneskin, Invisibility (Greater), etc. Dimension Door is situationally useful, but mostly defensive. Shout does damage, but it is a cone and the damage is not much better than the fireball/Lightning bolt you already have.

VC - Sydney, Australia

Frogs have a casting range of 50', can do 2d6 damage - which on one ogre would on average mean he has to stand still in it for 16 rounds to die. One Ogre, 16 rounds. And you will be sitting on a nearby wall. I can't see that working well :) That would be assuming they didn't just kill the swarm - and with a 10x10 footprint it could only harm one Ogre at a time too.

TR Happy Birthday!

Any spells named Call For Fire? ;)

VC - Sydney, Australia

Not at our level :p

No calls to Shelldrake to send firemissions sadly.

"Repeat" twice and it should be good. Jeez, no resources available from higher? What kind of suicide mission did they send you guys on?

Male Orc Expert 5

A scouting mission.

PArt of the problem is I think is we never really set our goals beyond "clear the fort". But our group isn't suited to doing a NAVY seals style run where no one knows we did it until some idiot blabs his mouth. Not even the bad guy.

KArlan I think is probably going to take a more direct hand in things (been more passive due to my own lack of posting) and work out what actually needs to be done adn build from that rather than waste time debating it. KArlan's not in it for the glory here anymore (despite HArry's insistence that he is) and more about avenging death and torture.

We know where the ogre's came from. It's actually the LAmia's and Giant he wants to know about. This is particularly since the giant and the lamia's seem connected. They came from the same point. So KArlan is going to act like a true follower of Iomedae and seek the heart of the evil so he can cut it out. No giants, no lamias, no organization to back up the ogre army, murder cults, and god knows what else the are responsible for in the region.

Especially considering we TELL them we are about to do it :p

Now the Rangers, Harry handled that neatly. :p

The problem is that our Divinations didn't ping the Lamia - specifically its weapon, and we haven't seen them moving about - so they pretty much aren't there, so where are they?

Its this endless desire for information based on chatting to people that is our downfall on any stealthlike activity. We give heaps of info away, but don't cover tracks.

I'd be right in for being ghosts in the night, but we really really really have to stop diplomacising at every turn.

On the flip side Ragnvald adn friends group is the portrait of anti-diplomacy.

What, you don't think that Ragnvald/Mobo/Attalas/Jez are not diplomatic? We are very diplomatic. "See this sword, you will tell us what we want, or it will remove your head!" What is wrong with that diplomacy? Yeh, then there are a few spellcasters, but we try to keep them from making the rest of us mistaken for civilized.

@Tirion - Thanks for the b-day wishes. Far to drunk atm to consider your suggestions for spells. I do know that I looked at some of them earlier and had narrowed it down to the ones I mentioned before for Alana. I can revisit your suggestions though, I guess. Is there one specific alternative to what I listed that you would like to see Alana have for the sake of the group. Keep in mind her alignment is CG. Thanks for the feedback.

DMZZ - Just tidying up Thumper (his HD didn't actually change at 7, but he DID become large!)

- Can we use the PFCompanion:Animal Archive? (yes its PFS legal etc!) and have Thumper take the 'Bodyguard' archetype? Similarly, his L7 feat, is Narrow Frame ok? (same book)

HoR and Crew:

So before we write off the whole cave Idea I jsut wanted to point out our cleric has this memoriazed and has had it memorized for a while now per my suggestion. 18 cubic feet is a lot of granite to seal off chambers and make tunnels with. Keep that in mind before we decide the cave is a bad idea? Pursuit? Oh you mean that pursuit we just buried in tons of rock?

Okay so I finally have KArlan finalized. I am waiting until 9th to get leadership. I do not wish to just wait a while in-game to get a gimped cohort when I qualify for a good one now. Flavor wise it will be essentially the same. I'll dialogue privately with Zyren to see how he wants to handle it statwise.

As for the rest I was going to make a detailed plan but given recent events ima hold off until we see what the angry mobs about. We might jsut get run out of town for poking the local ogres with sharp bits

So, let me just get down to some raw strats and character help.

I've just changed KArlan from a close quarters tank with slow speed (bad damage but good AC as we cna tell from that last fight where KArlan didn't get hit) to a damage beast that controls a wide area of the field with a big reach weapon and spiked armor. Wtih combat reflexes and enlarge person on him that means multiple AoO's and even ogres taking them for trying to engage him (he can even outreach Xanesha). So, yeah I'm still a tank, but oen more suited to the way the game is played.

As for others feel free to ignore my thoughts if you've already finihed.

Marek: Seriously go ahead and grab the battlefield control that you can. Sleet storm works wonderfully, as does stinking cloud. Going GOD wizard of the sword would be extremely helpful since we never really lacked damage but whether or not we have the right amount of contorl is pretty hit or miss.

Alana: I want to poitn out you have some really good spells you could have used in the last fight. Entangle, and Deep Slumber. Both of which would have made the ogre fight a joke since I sincerely doubt even as 6th level fighters they were past the HD limit of 10. In fac tI think I would ahve taken one of those over a lightning bolt any time. Damage is good, don't ge t me wrong, but an ogre that's asleep is an ogre that's beheaded by Harry and can't do anything about it. As for your fourth level spell? That's a fair question. MAss Enlarge PErson would honestly be most helpful to the group at this moment as it will spare you rounds having to cast it on individuals so you can drop it on multiple people at once. But I can see an argument for Shocking Image as well as a good mirror image substitute. Up to you. Solid fog is an idea too.

Celestra: Stone shape, as mentioned before, is something we're (and by mean I mean you, it's your character after all :) ) going to have to remember. Since we have two potentially hilarious places to use it in. Other thing we have to remember is letting you pray to fill those open slots with situationally useful things.

Aerieth: How could you ignore Good Hope? ;-;
