Best car rally ever.

A couple of my fellow Sydney Boys High alumni are participating:
Sh1tbox Rally

Nice, would be perfect for my '68 Falcon. Think I am going to do it up like a 40K Orc ride.

VC - Sydney, Australia

I wouldn't do it in my 87 Camaro.

'nother day of mutilation...promise updates tomorrow...forgive me for my spotty posting.

My Falcon is rat rodded as it is,so no love lost.

Storm knocked out my power earlier. Finally gave in and am in a motel for the night. I'll catch up with everything when my power's back on.

Power is still out and will be for some time. I can't post very easily from my phone, and the signal has ben shoddy. I think a tower or two was damaged as well. There were more than 14,000 customers reporting outages. So please, take over for Alana and Bree until I can return.

Fluid Inter-dimensional physically detached consciousness Roguish Healer/4

Very luckily for me, the power is back on! Yay! I'm back home with my awesome, dearly missed Internet. I'll be making my rounds shortly to catch up on everything.

Congrats on getting your power back Twilightrose. Summer and winter are the worst times of year to lose power...and yes going without the internet is abhorrent any time of the year.

FYI - I'm headed on vacation tomorrow and will be gone until July 8. Out hotel has the wonderful internet though so I should be able to stay up with my posting but if I'm lagging feel free to run Cairn and Kabal.

I am more or less back on track (and among the living...). Weekend is still a bit on the lousy side (especially since I couldn't find anyone to take over my nightshift), but I will be back for good on tuesday and take care of Kosti and Rangnir again, thanks for filling in.

Dungeon Master

Zyren,

I use map tools at my Mac all the time. There has to be a version out there that will work for you!

Male Gnome Sorcerer/9 - (HP: 49/49 - AC20;FF17;T18 - F+5;R+6;W+7 - Init+9 - Per+11)

Maptools works fine on my MacBook. I have had no problem with it. I cannot get the Token program to work, but since you can simply click and drag almost any picture into Maptools, this is not much of an issue.

--> Not sure where this conversation started, but this is my two cents.

Divine Gamemaster of the Abyss and below...

rly? Do you have a link for me?

Male Gnome Sorcerer/9 - (HP: 49/49 - AC20;FF17;T18 - F+5;R+6;W+7 - Init+9 - Per+11)

Maptools

--> The .dmg files, for Macs, are on the right hand side of the page.

Are there any good vehicular combat games on the market right now? Like a roleplaying version of Twisted Metal?

There is the classic...Car Wars by Steve Jackson. Pretty weak on the RP but there is a way to improve stats over time...if you survive.

Hint: Never leave your car. The pedestrian rules are brutal, as they likely should be. But were written before the days of people jumping cars or this: Venture Brother's Brock Samson.

Hahaha, nice. Yeah, the Hot Wheels stunt team has really changed some things.

Divine Gamemaster of the Abyss and below...

another day in the swamp of work...luckily we have summer holidays soon...

VC - Sydney, Australia

Sweet, Alchy and Harry are pending info before playing their respective hands.

Male Gnome Sorcerer/9 - (HP: 49/49 - AC20;FF17;T18 - F+5;R+6;W+7 - Init+9 - Per+11)

So, Harry is just itching to see how he can use all the Buffs we have tossed at him.

VC - Sydney, Australia

Oh baby yes.

I love it when a plan comes together.

Oops. I posted that in the wrong thread!

It would be a very small group consisting of friends/family. All of them with little to know pnp rpg experience. All adults.

Low level, simple simple session.

That sort of thing would probably work well with the PFS first steps scenarios. Each is about 4 hours, and they cover a wide range of play challenges as they are designed as a primer.

Obviously as its a home game you can just run them without worrying about the PFS mechanics, just take advantage of the fact that they are balanced and straightforward affairs where most of the heavy lifting and prep is done, so you can just concentrate on running the game.

Fluid Inter-dimensional physically detached consciousness Roguish Healer/4

Thanks Shifty. Is there a book designed for beginners DM?

The Beginners Box wasn't too bad, but ultimately it boils down to logical tips.

Avoid anything mechanically complex, keep it to the lower levels, no challenging themes. At this point its about keeping it light, fast and fun.

This is why the PFS scenarios work well, they are short and have plenty of 'boxed text'.

Yeah fun is the key

Try not to get bogged down in the technical details. A new player gets a lot of numbers and acronyms thrown at them in a short amount of time; it can get confusing. Patience is very important :)

You'll probably get asked "What's a BAB " about a million times ;D

I wouldnt even introduce all rules.

When I introduced some of my pupils to Pathfinder, we just used flanking as the only "specail" combat rule.

Fluid Inter-dimensional physically detached consciousness Roguish Healer/4

Fun has always been my top priority in gaming, and I've always been more fond of the role playing than the combat. I hate rules lawyering, oh so very much.

As a DM, what information about my player's characters do I need to keep track of for my use?

@feytharn - Thanks love!

Happy Independence Day to all my fellow Americans!

Ah rules - the first time DMHW and I played AD&D, we did not know about some minor technicalities, like splitting experience and having to memorize spells. Does anyone know how fast a level 5 wizard can wipe out almost any enemy when he can just keep casting Lightning Bolt every round?

Also, alignment was not really important, as I recall I was LG, but still went through the keep (where the good people were) and just killed everyone.

It was a blast.

Via the "The One Ring Adventures over the edge of wild" Forum I recognized the following blog about "11 ways to be a better role-player". I am not saying anyone in our PBP requires this, but it might be of interest for you.

in case you think it is crap, just do not read :)

It's obvioulsy slow time on the boards again, my PFs stuff is still cruising along though (just a little slower) - one group has just cracked into their third scenario, and the other group is on the last encounter of the second.

Two months on and I have only lost one player out of 12, not too bad, and that the player can be replaced without disrupting the game in any way is nice.

Looks like that timeframe of getting all 3 sessions done before 14 August was reasonable after all :)

HP: 142/165 AC:32 FF:29 T:17 F:16 R:18 W:20 Init:+4 Percep:+28

Note to self: Buy plenty of Onyxes for Ragnvald.

Male Orc Expert 5

HoR guys:

The ogres are actually closer to CR7. CR3 than add fighter levels. They don't get the same quality gear and probably have crap all for will and Reflex saves (someone keep note of this).

Whiiiiccch makes this a CR8 or 9 encounter since their are a few. Tough. But given that we basically trashed them without a single attack in retaliation I think it's safe to call this more like a CR8. Don't get too upset shifty this is significantly easier than the ghoul fights we had last part of the AP. In that one all we had to do was roll badly to die.

Male Orc Expert 5

Also keep in mind we're a lot stronger than the characters this was designed for. Most of us have better stats than waht 15pt buy would give. Oh, and there's 6 of us.

We're level 7 but we're probably closer to APL 8.

VC - Sydney, Australia

7 Creatures is +4CR or an Epic level encounter I am fairly sure..
We have better stats, but I suspect our WBL is probably on the low side.

Wo what happens inside the Fort, where there are no doubt bigger ones and BBEG to boot? I suppose it is just annoying when it becomes clear that the Fort is now significantly harder than it appeared - whats the point of having a Knowledge skill when the information you get from it is 100% wrong, if this was doing it the easy way with thought, then what were the odds of it not sucking a fat one if we went through the tunnels THEN faced 2-3 times this many?

As I say, either we are straight up the wrong level, the module is mistaken, or the writer just felt like being arbitrarily challenging (ALMOST as bad as Thornkeep) and frankly all three of those issues get my goat (can you tell)?

I'm really annoyed that they keep cheezing the encounters, like flying creatues on top of towers of doom - although I copped that sweet as it is SUPPOSED to be the BBEG, but it gets stupid when what should be a curb stomp in our favour turns out to be yet -another set of bad guys bigger than us... again. Ogres man, these should be routine Ogres.
Big life and death encounters should be reserved for set piece battles.

These are all twice as tough as the supposedly tough Ogre family we just put off, and that's just their plebs.

Anyhow, I suppose its frustrating because there seems to be a bump happening in a few opf the AP's at the moment where it has turned from enjoyable to just outright frustrating - whether it is an Army of ridiculously beefed up Ogres (with no foreknowledge of beefiness) or a room full of Shadows, through to other frustratingly protracted and overblown random creatures, its driving me right up the wall.

Male Orc Expert 5

Oh the shadows are way worse than you think. But there is an "out" so to speak.

And not to spoil anything but one of the characters in that game is a dead character walking already. :)

Beyond that, we just need to approach these fights as smartly as we have been. Call it GM's mercy he only sent a few at us at a time rather than emptied the fort like old Harry wanted.

Also the CR system in terms of numbers of creatures gets skewed when your party almost matches that number. Anyway argument is irrelevant here as we are kicking their asses. We'll come back to this when they get up and drop me and you in two hits.

Yeah thats HoD - the BBEG almost one rounded Alchy off a set of average rolls. One more hit and he's dead dead with that sort of caper.

By reckoning, Harry is rolling around 1/2-2/3 his WBL, which I suppose isn't the end of the world.

The idea wasn't to pull the whole fort, Harry would have just kept them running right away if that happened, but rather to get the result that we did - to weaken the gate. The problem is that if this is just a handfull of the several dozen likely to be inside, as well as their leaders, then we will have to move in on their terms much more - and if they zerg us we have a real struggle.

Given Hook Mountain is 7-9, I'm wondering if we are rolling the right levels if these are the creatures - were we supposed to be fighting this place at L9 or L7? Because there is a big difference - I can't see what we missed but if this IS the big time then we are under level and inder equipped by a wide margin - and its going to show.

Male Orc Expert 5

On another note MArek does do nice damage. But that comes at the cost of blowing spells and arcane pool nearly every round. So I see him more as a rocket to mine and harry's steam train.

In other news I need to find a good way to up my damage on these nonsmiting attacks.
