Anyone who does a cover of In the Hall of the Mountain King is ok in my book.
Not as epic, but did you ever hear this
And because of you, I now have to mention Epica, too.
Damn the fear of just listing favorites...
The (sadly buried) Avantasia project of Edguy Master(outofhis]mind Tobias Sammet and Gamma Ray deserve to be mentioned, not just because of the music but because Toby and Kai are among the nicest people I had the pleasure to meet.

The Epica cover is tres cool. Hall of the Mountain King really lends itself to being covered by rock bands I think. And Peer Gynt (the opera it comes from) is one of my favorite compositions overall.
Though for classical music, Danse Macabre probably still takes the cake for me.
I think most people who actually like real music have fairly multi-faceted taste. My playlist at work goes everywhere from Beatles to Rammstein to Yello to NIN to Creedence Clearwater to Henry Rollins Spoken Word to etc, etc, etc.
That said, I've now added Steampunk and Pirate-Metal ;)
Many thanks for the enlightening recommendations folks will take me a while to get through 'em, and keep em coming!

Mark - I will have to look at your Osirion campaign. Not sure how many more campaigns I should get into, but several I am in have really slowed down. Any type of character you are looking for?
As far as the music goes, a lot of mine comes from my early days with DMHW -- Emerson, Lake and Palmer, Rush, Genesis and similar stuff. But I am sure that most of you have heard of all of them.

We've got a Desert Princess / Dragon Disciple (Meowzebub), Seeker of Knowledge / Magus, Melee Blender - Embalmer / Vivisectionist and a new guy starting up as a Cleric of Irori.
But that being said, doesn't really matter what as long as it fits into Osirion. Pace of the campaign isn't super quick - but ticks along quite nicely (started in June and are up to 1300ish posts).

I am thinking about a Human Rogue(sniper)/Fighter(Lore Warden). Would be dex based and probably have the weapon finesse/dancing dervish feats to get att/dam using a scimitar. Will have to read up on the Osirion stuff to get more background. She will probably be raised by her militaristic family to follow in the family business, but more interested in the intellectual side of combat. She also did not always make the best choices in friends and ended up spending a fair amount of her time growing up on the streets with less than reputable friends resulting in her frequently getting into trouble and eventually being sent away from the family until she learned the ways of honor.
This would be the basics:
Str 10 +0
Dex 19 +13 --> +2 human bonus
Con 12 +2
Int 13 +3
Wis 12 +2
Cha 10 +0
Class Progression:
Fighter(level 1)
Rogue (level 2)
Rogue (level 3)
Feats:
Weapon Focus(scimitar) - Fighter Level 1 Bonus
Point Blank Shot - Level 1
Precise Shot - Human Level 1 Bonus
Weapon Finesse - Rogue talent
Dervish Dance - Level 3

Mark, I hadn't heard of those you first listed but listened to the songs you posted links for. I enjoyed The Cat Empire's songs, and John Butler Trio. The TISMvideo was pretty funny. I think you'll like Apocalyptica, they are one of my all time favorties. Another you might be interested in, if you aren't already, is Vanessa Mae . I absolutely adore her, she is a magnificent violinist.
Feytharn, I hadn't heard of the bands you listed either but did quite enjoy them as well. I think I'll be looking for some of their music to add to my personal collection!
Zyren, I haven't had a chance to check out those you listed yet. I have more homework due this evening. How much of what you posted is in German?

Ok, two options. The fighter(lore warden)/rogue(not sure about archetype) above, or a witch. Let me know which would fit best with the group and I will get a basic background and crunch together. It is a sort of eclectic group. At first glance the party appears to have no real front line power, but actually the alchemist, the magus, and the sorcerer are all pretty front line capable.

I decided to send it via tracked and insured service (was more expensive but I think it's safer for both of us)
The tracking number is: 161656005274
You can check it on this site: DHL

Na, everyone knows that Australia is a combination of AC/DC, Men at Work, and INXS.

Tirion, you're forgetting Steve Irwin!! Man, I loved that guy. It was a sad, sad day when he died. Anyone who loves animals enough to jump on a crocodile's head is OK in my book.
Of course, big fan of Men at Work too. :-) " . . .so tell me--what kind of boy ARE you, Johnny??"
Oh, and so sorry, I forgot: Congratulations, Sarge!!

Yeh - any group that can work Vegemite Sandwich into a song and sell it in the USA is good in my book.
And Steve Irwin was awesome, what a loss. "Gee, look at this poor little bugger, was probably just going for a snack and then WHOMP, got hit by a car." Of course he is holding some type of highly poisonous snake which he just found on the roadside while saying this.

I had the biggest crush on Crocodile Dundee when I was a kid :)
I have that song on my computer, Tirion, and yes I actually cried a bit when Steve Irwin died. Though I couldn't help but to find it tragically ironic that in the end it was a sting ray that got him and not a crocodile...

And Kangaroos and Dingos. If we really want to work in the stereotypes. Perhaps we should get Sable to draw us a Kangaroo in an AC/DC shirt rockin' out with a Fosters to get it all together.

Afternoon everyone. Awesome pic Sable, lol. He needs one of these, though.

Heh - well, it looks fun, I have not gotten to read through the thread yet, but the first 20 posts or so make it sound interesting - I was actually amazed to discover that witches have access to lightning bolt, I did not think they had many offensive spells.

@ Fey:
