Well, the Order of the Stick is 10 years old today. Rich thanks his readers, but I think he deserves a great deal of kudos for telling a good story and sticking with it.
If you look around the webcomics world today, very few artists are still doing what they started with. They moved on to other projects, webcomics; or just drastically changed the tone of their story or characters. So - endurance in this case has been a good thing for us as fans. Thanks, Rich!
10 YEARS !!!
Come on. I am not that OLD, am I ? :-(
Come to think of it ...

And...Payback!?
That last panel is one of my new favorite lines!
I guess his CHA is MUCH better than his WIS :-)))

Four more years! Four more years!

Well now. I wasn't expecting that. But that IS one way to get epic animal companions. Did...did Belkar pick up Leadership?
Nah, he just upgraded from his cat companion. He is a ranger, after all.
I love the flashback, with the detail of Haley's dad picking the lock to the T-Rex cage. There's a throwaway plot element I never expected to be mentioned again.

Remember the lass from the thieves guild?
Also, apparently in OotS univeres karma does work. Belkar was quite nice (for himself) recently after all.

Don't want to spoil the awesomeness of that display, but the latest trend has been to set someone up big and then have Tarquin (or some other villain) knock them down.
I'm concerned this might be a precursor to Belkar's much discussed, emminent death prophecy. Still, I hope the wave of kick-ass continues for a little longer if that's the case.

As long as Belkar doesn't take it in the knee, he's fine. Right now, even if he does die, he is pretty much guaranteed to go to an afterlife with hot & cold running Who-
'Ladies of negotiable affection'.
In battle against vastly superior numbers, check
In service to the greater good, check
Riding a freaking DINOSAUR on a RAMPAGE, Big check
The only reason this doesn't qualify as Belkar's crowning moment of awesome is because even factoring in the fact that he's succeeded in giving Roy pause, it still doesn't really beat Belkar's previous 'Sexy Shoeless God of War' moments.
Although it does come close.

Wow - Tarquin's going all in. I really thought he'd figure out that it was a bad idea.
Now I'm curious what Laurin's favor will be. We know so little about her character that it could be anything.

That's my prediction.
I just want someone (probably Roy or maybe Elan) to inform him "You're nothing but a Side Quest" before he dies.

I'm betting her favor will have something to do with letting her (or her daughter) go "free" or something similar. She may well want out of all of this.

I'm more curious wondering what would occur (what she would do about it) if Tarquin died without the ability to fulfill the favor.

Yes. This. Please.
Make it so.

It has to be Elan. It won't be Elan that kills him, but it'll definitely be Elan who tells him he's the side quest, not the main villain.

Or maybe Laurin's favor will be "Die!!" at a critical moment in the battle, forcing Tarquin to realize that he's a second-string villain, taken out by an underling.
Quite possible. It's also possible that this is in some sort of revenge for Malak (she seemed quite fond of him or close) by blaming Tarquin's sons for his death (maybe even a "sins of the son passed onto the father sort of thing).
Also, I forgot to mention in making my previous point...

... I'm pretty sure this is what Tarquin is heading for at this time. He wants it to be Elan, but it's possible that:
1) he's hoping that an epic win on his part (killing Greenhilt) will empower Elan to take the mantle of revenge or leadership (an unlikely event since Greenhilt is a pretty solid warrior and is part of a different narrative; also because Elan is rather forgiving and/or Durkon will likely raise Roy)
2) he's attempting to get Elan in one-on-one battle now (an unlikely event, as Elan will likely try to avoid it)
3) he's planning on killing his own son (unlikely, but possible, instead of staining his legacy) in order to change the narrative so that Greenhilt focuses his eventual wrath on Tarquin (making Tarquin the "final boss" as it were, of Greenhilt's narrative)
I think he's making a major mistake, regardless. Even if he "wins" I'm reasonably sure he just doesn't know the Order well enough to succeed at what he's attempting.
It's also possible that Elan (or Greenhilt) may well leave him alive at the end of all this when he delivers, "the line". Or maybe Tarquin well tell it to himself and commit suicide. Lots of interesting possibilities here.

After my last bungled attempt to predict the next strip or so I realized that attempting to predict what will happen in the strip is actually not an example of predictive logic or narrative cause and effect, it simply is reading Rich Burlew's mind. Or, to put it another way, especially if Rich is determined to keep surprising us, pretty much pure luck.
But I am enjoying the predictions so don't stop. :)

Oooo ... or maybe her favor will be to kill Elan. It could be the Darth Vader redemption moment when he turns on his "companions" ... even though he's more like Palpatine ...

Niiiiiiiiiiice idea. I wonder if he would be redeemed in that circumstance. Interesting.
