..so I thought that I would keep a low profile out of combat to make up for it.
Uh...please don't do this. It just makes things worse by highlighting the focus on what you're doing when you finally do something and it makes it harder on all the rest of us to make the game go.
So far, no one has complained about your combatness and I, for one, don't worry about such things.
We need all our players to be active both in and out of combat.

Happy New Year to everyone as well.
I will start posting again later today. I was having my parents around for a week. So most on-line game participation came to a halt. And directly afterwards I had a private PFS CON here at our place. Both UK VC around plus 2 more guests staying.
My son did GM Thornkeep - the Accursed Halls for a table of 7 adults. He did a great job and got a lot of praise (he just turned 12).
We then had my wife doing her very first GMing of Thornkeep, The Enigma Vault on New Years Eve. She did a great job as well and I hope she had a positive enough experience to GM again. She must be a four star player by now (or pretty close to reach 100 XP between all her characters). But she never GMed Pathfinder and the two prior attempts of a different system pretty much ended in disaster.

Wren
I hope you are okay if I use Wren to desribe knowledge checks in her 'own words'.
It just seems to add much more to the story as giving you back info in a spoiler. And yes - the closer she is to just making the check the more on a tangent is her description of the important facts.
Absolutely. Run with her, Thod. :)

Andrea
I think Aldous was way ahead with his attack befor Wren felt someone with feathery feelers deserves to be restraint.
I also can't see them as being aggressive as they must be full from all the metal sources available.
I'm improvising here - but the grapple seems to work surprisingly well.
2Kevin - I took of your AC for amour - so I think the 15 hits.
Thod |
Sorry for my absence - I did expect to have WiFi at the Convention where I spend the last 5 days. I spend most time in the trade hall without phone or WiFi and I didn't even have WiFi at the lodge - so I only bought a single hour to download chronicles.
I should have given a warning here. Will try to restart tomorrow. Getting late here.

Retirement from this AP after we have finished this part
I've been thinking about this for a long while. During the last year there have been times when I just felt I needed a break and some time off from GMing here.
There have been times when I missed to let you know I might be unable to post. To some degree I was always too optimistic. To some degree live has shifted. But it happened that I didn't posted for a few days for a good reason - and then I dreaded to open the browser and see you desperately waiting. So it felt more of a burden.
Don't get me wrong - I have had great times here. This was my first forray into PBP. There where times when I couldn't wait and check what you replied. But these times get less frequent - yes - they still happen.
But my work schedule doesn't allow me three days a week to post in the morning as I'm off a lot earlier as 2 years ago. At work I have a strict no internet policy. Again - when I started this was different - our side was just closing. We had to be there for several month - but nobody cared that much what we were doing.
As GM I need the thrill, the fun to deliver really well. I think I can be proud to a high degree. This is my very first PBP and I should manage to have GMed two full AP books. More importantly - you are still the original players - we only had 2 drop-outs along the way.
One early due to fast posting - one later due to own life.
There are still several weeks (month?) of play until you reach the end and I will GM on. But I have been leaving this discussion unposted for far too long.
As I said - we will have many weeks to get it sorted out. Maybe I could even GM the fourth book again. But I feel I should rather take a break instead of getting burned out.
I might even do some PBP again - but rather short term (a PFS scenario) as an Ironman marathon that a PBP AP is.
Please let me know your opinions. Lets see if Paizo comes out with the long promised online games board. But I needed to post this here at some stage - and better while I'm rather having fun at the moment as while I dread that I haven't posted enough.
Galadan Teresthin |
It's quite alright if you need to take a break. We all do at some point. Perhaps someone else could take over as DM for a time? It depends on what the rest of us want to do, but this is a fairly interesting campaign (and Galadan is an interesting character).
Wren the FeatherMage |
Ain't no worries from me, Thod.
The biggest hurdle in the PbP world is access to easy maps that everyone can see. It's the number #2 reason why they fail: GMs fail to take into account the amount of time and effort it takes to get them to work.
In fact, if you look at the most successful PbPs, you'll soon see that those groups have figured out ways to do maps. And yes, there are many who hope the Paizo Gamespace will aid in things.
I feel the demise of this PbP is propelled mostly by the lack of maps...so I get it.
I do think that some momentum had been lost, but that's a group effort - easily lost and easily recovered.
At some future time, I would play with each and every one of you again.
I'll probably won't be taking Wren on other adventures, so if you decide to run Book 4 when Gamespace comes out and maps and story become easier, I'm happy to bring her back.
Thod |
Waiting for others to chime in
And btw - there's an announcement on the PFS boards regarding yours truly.
Luke_Parry |
Well, obviously, I would *like* to keep playing, but if a viable alternative is not discovered, I would be happy to let the game go gracefully - I would prefer it to remain a *fond* memory, rather than waiting for a painful 'death' :-/
As to the other matter, no worries, Thod! It was a bit of surprise for me, too ;-) I am now keeping a much closer eye on my 'table count' :-P
DM Wellard |
Congrats on the fifth Star Jens..I have always enjoyed the times at your tables. As to this Ap winding down..I have no problems with that and if someone ever wants to pick up Andrea will be ready. I doubt I'll use her in anything else as she has been in 5 APs already and this is the furthest she has ever gotten level wise.
Galadan Teresthin |
I do eventually want to make Galadan a Brightness Seeker, as I am still trying to mesh the elven ideas of the afterlife with the Pharasma one. There may actually not be any difference to them, but of all the prestige classes out there, this one is somewhat interesting because it regards the metaphysics of death at least somewhat realistically.
Galadan Teresthin |
So I'm sorry to see this game die... I didn't even get my inquisitor to the prestige class. And I'm a little depressed because it feels like most of my PBPs are dying. I'm waiting to hear if I've been accepted into a new one, but I might start recruiting for a short (one adventure) PBP in my own home campaign Kingdoms of the Seven Continents.

Hey All--
I've spoken to (and thanked) Thod for running this game for so long. However, one of Wren's many fans has offered to take over GMing this PbP.
I've gotten Thod's blessing and would like to introduce you to ThreeEyedSloth who has volunteered to test his GM mettle against the likes of us yahoos. All he is is a 4-star PFS GM, the VL of Bakersfield, and one of my favorite yahoos over to play PFS.
If you guys will accept him, we'll pick up the game where we left off.
Galadan, you in?
Kevin, there is plenty of drink for you.
Mr. Hastur? Mr. Aldous? Please tell me you're around.
Andrea? Have the time and energy to commit?
Post here if you're still interested. I'm giving until Thursday 6pm PST, then I'll begin to recruit replacements.
Let's rock this thing. *squawk*

Hi guys! :)
Painlord is too nice. After all, he is my most hated enemy.
In all seriousness, this game has been a blast to follow. When Pain first told me he was playing in a Carrion Crown campaign, I immediately began reading along. I've been running CC for some of my local friends since September of 2011. We are about two sessions from finishing the campaign. I have a great love for this adventure, and I really enjoy all of you yahoos involved.
Just to be upfront, I have only ran one other PbP before, but I loved it. It was a PFS scenario and we finished it. I learned a lot about the amount of prep involved in PbP, and I've been wanting to take it a crack at it again. And, having already ran this once before, I've definitely learned from my past run through of things to make the experience even better.
So, if you're all in, I'm game too. I'll need some time to figure out how to jump us all back in, considering it left off in the middle of a combat. So, my plan is to be up and running again shortly after PaizoCon... So about two weeks. If you don't want to return, there's no hard feelings. Just let me know as soon as you've decided.
Galadan Teresthin |
Sure... I'm in. LOL. I'm a little mentally torn by the idea because I just started (or submitted characters for) another four PBP campaigns. (as I have a tendency to replace lost games with active ones). But until it gets to be too much, I think I'm good.
Kevin Darlok |
I have a question to you all not related to this PbP.
My group for the last 20+ years has been on a 2 year break but we are looking at getting back together soon. I have always DMed, but real life has had an unforeseen impact on my creativity and I want to run an AP with them. I have never really ran scripted adventures, so I was wondering if any of you high end GMs could point me in the right direction.
My group has two thinkers in it, (a husband and wife that really lean towards evil) a strait roll player fighter type (always a fighter type...always)that can surprise you at times with his role play of any alignment, and a devious player that really would turn on anyone if given enough incentive. They do not mind being railroaded and sometimes stagnate if left with to many choices of action. They all love intrigue, combat, power bases, prestige or infamy, and long walks on the beach.
Oh and half wish we would have stuck with 1st edition AD&D.
Any help or thought would be greatly appreciated.
Kevin Darlok |
I have been thinking of that one. My gamers like the Pathfinders as a group this might get their attention. I had thought of Kingmaker as the whole kingdom thing is a big thing for them, but I am afraid it would go off the rails around book 3. That and the fill in the blank stuff may be a little to much for me now.
Andrea Greenholt |
Well I'm in..welcome TES..one thing to note is that you will have to contact the board Admins at Paizo to get the campaign management shifted to your control.
Kozaric..I'd agree with the choice of Shattered Star..having tried to run Kingmaker it does tend to get silly about book three..mainly because if they play the city building right they can have massive resources available to them by the time they end book 2
ThreeEyedSloth |
I'm happy that everyone is on board. I'm sure it's weird for some new person to come in and pick up the reins. It's very strange to me as well, especially considering how big of shoes I have to fill. Thod did an incredible job so far, so it's certainly daunting to take over for him. But, I promise to do my best to ensure a fun time for everyone.
A couple of things real quick that will help me out:
1. When did the party level up to 5th? I was looking back trying to remember and I think I keep missing it. I'm also trying to get the party's current XP from Thod, so I'll have an idea where you all are with that.
2. If you could each post, or PM, an answer to the following, that would be very helpful in planning for future events:
- What is your own, personal motivation for continuing on the quest you're all currently on?
Galadan Teresthin |
It's not weird at all. In fact, if a game dies due to the DM's absence, its the only thing you can do to resuscitate it.
-As to Galadan's reason for continuing, he's encountered enough flesh golems, golem dogs, and other necrotic creatures to know that someone is disrupting the natural flow of life and death, and in accordance with his goddess, he cannot allow that to continue. The necromancers must be neutralized.

August 12, 2012 nearly 10 months ago.
2. What is your own, personal motivation for continuing on the quest you're all currently on?
Wren:
A. has no where else to go.B. is certain her dear friends would miss her if she left.
C. wants to save and protect her bird-of-a-feather friend Stitches.
D. wants to continue to protect her flock.
Painlord's New Motivation (OOC):
To screw and harangue TES for fun and profit.
