I suck again!
That thing is a monster.
Wren doesn't have much against it, but will keep plucking away.
It does seem to stack very nicely against us so this will be an interesting challenge...and one that we might fail at this time. Hopefully, we can find a way around it.
Adamantine Weapon blanch for 100 gp...we might go back to town and get 10 pieces of ammo covered with it?
With a few doses, Nym, Galadan and Wren might be able to chew down some of its hp.
Given a day of sleep, Wren might also be more useful.
Interesting fight to think upon.

I agree - so far it did go badly for you.
The hound waiting was due to the earlier action. Patiently, not breathing, not getting tired - just with a command.
Kevin going first also allowed me to go for the softer target compared to Hastur.
Damage rolls have been very good and the hound made it's crucial save.
Hasturs main weakness is the relative low damage - more than enough for normal fights so DR kicks in.
You got too used to just to blaze past. You surely will manage one way or another - but it won't be an easy one this time.

I will point out that this is the first combat 'Aldous' has been around for; without him, I think we would be in a *lot* of trouble...
Ah - you just feel too important - look - little doggy is nearly down ...
I love this fight so far. Great ups and downs. At times I felt afraid of my players and times I curse them (first time when Wren had cast Grease and before I did the saving throw) as I feel they just slaughter my monsters with not enough I can do from my side ...
Has been quite a roller coaster so far. At the same time I feel it is sooooo fitting to Kevin.
Thod |
I likely shouldn't be joking here - never sure how it arrives on a board. I just couldn't resist.
I'm very glad that Hastur is back in this fight and from here I feel he will win on his own just by attrition - unless of course the hound rolls a crit ...
But I expext Hastur doing more a gradual chipping away of 5-10 HP per combat round.

I apologize for my absence yet again. I was hit with some real life issues that made free time an impossibility. Two deaths in the family, and traveling all over the country to take care of it. Anyway, if I am still needed, I would love to come back. If that ship has sailed already... let me know.
Nym Vallidorn |
If you're all willing, I'm in a position to come back as well. Less than a week from being done with school for the semester, and I don't think I can do any more damage to my academics than I already have.

No problem - just come back from your errant. You couldn't have managed to get far.

Hey All--
It's a PFS convention weekend for me: KUBLACON! (SF, CA) and I might be somewhat less quick to post than usual, starting Friday.
I'll be hosting 140+ tables of Pathfinder Society play, PFS Campaign Director Mike Brock, and Lead Designer Jason Bulmahn. I'm excited about it.
There is still room for any of all y'all if you want to fly out. If you're already coming, feel free to find me and kick me in the shins.
I should be back to posting 'normally' on Tuesday.
-Pain
p.s. Thod, are you coming to the US this year?

Rules Discussion:
There is some doubt, in my mind, as to whether gentle rest can be used as an attack of opportunity. I believe that most spell-like abilities are standard actions (which an attack of opportunity is not usually), however, I'll wait for a GM adjudication.
Painlord |
Thod--
Very good convention weekend: coordinated 150 tables of PFS. Had really good talks with Brock and 7 different VLs/VCs. We had over 100 walk-ins and gave out 100 or so new PFS numbers.
I'll be back to posting in about 12 hours (sleep, Yay!), my brain is borken.
Apologies.

I thought I add here a few remarks to door openings and dice rolling for knowledge / perception
This is an on-line game. To move it forward I sometimes will just take the liberty to open a door - like just happened with Hastur - to keep it moving. The main aim is to avoid a big build up of expectations - and then not much happens.
I won't do the same to put you in danger or to gain a surpise on you. I hope this is okay.
Something related is in regard to 'knowledge' checks - like the wardrobe - or perception checks. There are two different kinds of knowledge / perception checks
a) the ones with a fixed DC in the AP. For these I follow them as written - for example - finding the secret compartment in the wardrobe had a pretty high perception DC and for these you will have to roll / Take 10 / Take 20 to beat the DC.
b) in some cases there is background information that is intended to be 'given away for free' or automatic. Sometimes in these cases I still ask for a roll. If you ask - yes - but if there is no DC then we will succeed automatically? Yes and no. These rolls are not completely irrelevant. They are guiding my 'fluff'. I use them in order of highest to lowest to decide who finds what or in case of a surprisingly high/low roll I will let this flow into the description. It also helps me to spread the action if we are outside combat to ensure everyone feels engaged and finds / contributes something.
I thought I just mention this here as there have been questions about the Knowledge Local rolls for the skins. I could have just copy&pasted a few names but felt the rolls and who made them enabled me to spin some more exiting stories.
Let me know if you dislike the b) rolls - for me they help as GM for an on-line game. And no - while I would stop them if the majority dislikes them I won't tell you ahead if a roll is for flavour only or is crucial.
Wren the FeatherMage |
Thod...all that seems fine to me.
I'm completely comfortable with you spinning things as you see fit. I trust you to make things work.
The 'b)' stuff is all good.

Doesn't sound far off from how I plan on running things for my own online games, so no complaints here.

So there was one in Vorgstag's room, and another in Grine's room?
Sorry - my fault. I could have sworn I listed everything. Guess we went from one action to the next:
Grines Room - what I thought I had posted:
The room is packed with curios and medical oddities, including a complete alchemist lab and four vials of antitoxin that Grine has recently crafted. Alltogether the contents of the room would be worth 750 gp to the right collector.
To make it easier - just jot down 750 gp for the party fund and 4 anti toxin. Sorry again - I was absolutely convinced I had posted the paragraph above.
Aldous Preklikin |
@Thod: You did mention that the 'contents of the room' was worth 750gp earlier, but I had wondered whether Grine had anything on him; I asked, because (from a meta-game perspective) I know that when creepers explode, their equipment is not consumed, just them :-P
Of course, I will understand if that '750gp' total includes any equipment that he had on him.
Also, since Galadan said he was actually going to try and open the chest we found ages ago, is there anything in that? :-)
Thod |
Aldous
Late - but here is Grines stuff
Combat gear potion of cure light wounds, potion of spider climb, acid (2), antitoxin; other gear rags, masterwork handaxe, masterwork throwing axes (3), disguise kit, holy symbol of Norgorber, black smear poison (6 doses), spell component pouch, thieves' tools
Now searching for the box

Wren
I hope you are okay if I GM-play Wren telling knowledge instead of just write what it is in a spoiler. I don't think I ever asked and just took it for granted. I have to admit this time I got carried away and in the end Wren seemed so annoying that I just had to target her.
Lolz. No, no worries, Thod. Take what liberties you need.
Wren is meant to play her 7 charisma appropriately and as long as she's only annoying in character, it's all good. When she starts annoying players, rather than their characters, is when I'd worry about it.
Wren the FeatherMage |
Mistress Wren is delightfully delirious. And I shall do everything in my power to prevent from hastening her arrival at Pharasma's throne.
Lolz. Wren is appreciative of this.
DM Wellard |

Ah but some in the Church would argue that you die when the Lady of Graves decides it's time for you to die. It's something my character is arguing with Neil Spicer's Cleric about over in the CoCT game here on the boards
Wren the FeatherMage |
yes I wondered about that 'scroll' too..and hold on Wren you are not the only one who needs scrolls so stop hogging every one that comes our way.
Oh fer sures, DM Wellard.
I encourage Andrea to make this point quite clearly via RP!
I, Painlord, am quite aware of Wren's..uhm, Wren's birdlike attraction to shiny (i.e. magical) things and that's she's hogging stuff. However, *she* isn't aware of it. :)
Wren is a bit clueless and might not even realize Andrea's interest in such things. Please feel free to have her RP it out. Wren will be *delighted* to share what she knows of magic (and even her spellbook) with her 'good friend Andrea' once she realizes they are...well, "birds of a feather".
//'ducks' thrown objects
//avoids more thrown objects for the ducks joke
Aldous Preklikin |
I will make the point that Aldous, too, can use scrolls, although he will probably only start claiming them once anyone who wants them has scribed them into their 'spellbook', and we have spares.
Wands, on the other hand...
Thus far, Aldous, to the best of my knowledge, has not claimed any items - he has just taken his share of the gold :-)
Thod |
I'm just looking ahead. The plan is to finish Grine and Vorgstag - but the original task given to you was to figure out what happened in Hergstadt to 6 children who the beast allegedly killed.
I would suggest some fortitude saves after this part and who fails will go on fatigued (you can opt to fail RP wise if you want but that's up to you).
After Hegstadt is level up over night. I could do before that but I need to keep you on the toes ;-) Joking aside - I checked the remaining encounters out and think the group should manage. Keep in mind all the stuff you have - some bits left from Harrowstone might come in . That should be enough to compensate to play tough - no more hints.
Wren the FeatherMage |
Wren would dearly love a chance to rest, shop, sell goods, & buy magical crap. Is that in the plan? We, at least, get to rest after we finish with Grine, right?
