  • that last time Congress addressed it they chose to extend it, rather than eliminate it.

    Me, I'm a purist: If the sun is at its zenith, then it's noon. If you need your company's work schedule to be asymmetric around that, then for gosh' sake change your work schedule, don't go around resetting all your workers' clocks!

    But I will admit that NobodysWife and the Impii are looking forward to getting to sleep in an extra hour next week.

    - part 1) investigation into a human town leads to spies and orc invasion

    - part 2) a murder investigation on a boat leads to a traitor; you end up dealing with a defunct/dead druid organization to gain access to a demiplane (with literally nothing preventing you from making it your own) to launch an invasion of your own into a fortress of orcs and giants
    [side note: you are betrayed by a seeming ally with an interesting backstory for no real reason]

    - part 3) explore an ancient valley to re-light a divine forge
    [side note: you are betrayed by a seeming ally with an interesting backstory for no real reason; at least this one has motivations, though]

    - part 4) cause disruption and dissent (earn enough victories to demoralize a small army) before invading an ancient undead's tomb
    [side note: you are not betrayed by a seeming ally with an interesting backstory - and it's kind of weird, and doesn't relate to much of anything until part 6... and then might betray you, though you really should have seen it coming]

    - part 5) all out assault stealthy infiltration of a massive volcano fortress in order to...

    - part 6) make an all-out assault on a giant's castle (that you may or may not end up with at the end of the adventure)

    Over-all, it was surprisingly robust in both environments and encounter design. Except for the part where an enchanter literally rules everything except part four. That's a thing.

    Like, if you get suggestion and charm monster, the game is pretty much over for most of the AP's foes. But! That actually creates new and unique opportunities...

    Yeah. That's most definitely for the best! XD

    Due to neither of us being interested, I ended up handling it via a made-up mechanic that has been established to function in our games that permitted multiple outcomes at once. The results of said mechanics on such a large scale are not yet clarified - it'll need to be done in-character, later, between an old PC (a mythic character from Council of Thieves) and a new one (the cause of the 17 divergent-yet-simultaneous multiple timelines in Cheliax).

    Yes, 17 is specific and intentional, no, it's too much to get into. It runs the gamut from "everyone is alive, but corrupt and enthralled." to "everyone is dead" to "too awful to contemplate" to "the dead people are all replaced by simulacrum, so no one knows" to all sorts of other things.

    I expect quite a mythical showdown, as this is the first time the mechanic has ever been used by a "pure villain" - previously, it's always been introduced as a kind of Q-like sort-of-kind-of-quasi-villain who never quite uses it for anything other than personal amusement or the (often unwilling, and often dubious) "enrichment" of the PCs.

    It's also the largest and most persistent and wide-spread instance of such a thing - usually it's a brief interlude, at most, and only involving a handful of creatures.

    When things eventually get to collapsing into a singular "true" timeline (which they will), the PC needs to be the one to make it happen in an "optimal" manner - generally by collecting the 17 alternate timelines into her own demiplane and reforging a new, 18th one out of them (or something else, depending on "things").

    Anyway, that's waaaaayyyyy too much information, I think. XD

    Got out of work yesterday around 6pm. Roughly 11 hours for the day, but I'm used to that. Had to come back into the office at 11pm last night. Didn't get to leave until close to 3am. Go home. Come back in by 7am. Someone goes by my office shouting "YAY IT'S FRIDAY Y'ALL!! GOOD MORNING IT'S FRIDAY!!" Reply back "Oh shut the hell up!"

    I might be cranky.

    I might need my bottle...of scotch...and yes, I am quite aware of what time it is. Bite me.

    ~grins~ I understand completely about the IT end. I work for the phone company and am on call every other weekend. I can't count how many weekends I have lost due to constant troubles. And I work the night shift and have to sometimes pull some OT until 10 or 11 am, totally ruining my sleep time.

    If there's anything Paizo does well, it's putting a robust story behind their plots.

    It doesn't change the fact I find their orcs and giants pretty boring, so the campaign is probably not for me. Doubly so as orcs in my group's homebrew setting are very different from default, so I'd have to change a ton about the plot to find a way to make it fit.

    A Hobgoblin veteran discovers an artifact that allows her to use a pocket of the Earth plane as a superhighway to get from place to place and then builds an army of monsters (such as an intellectual Minotaur and a Medusa super spy) to conquer Nirmathis and it's vast supply of natural resources.

    It's pretty sweet.

    They're heavily based on the Jagermonsters from Girl Genius. They're a PC race so not always evil. Live in tundra lands fighting off dragons, frost giants, and extraplanar horrors from beyond the Mountains of Madness.

    Yes. Apparently, people are supposed to kill themselves if they're taken captive by Orcs. Especially women. Those that have the AP can provide more detail.
