The tech team assembled the list of potential finalists, and at least two of the candidates are currently in violation of the following part of rule #1: "Contestants must provide their real names on their paizo.com account."

If you have not provided your real name on your paizo.com account by 1 PM Pacific Time on Tuesday, January 18, you may be eliminated for violating the rules.

To be clear, you need to visit your Personal Settings page, and make sure your first and last name are filled in.

Just wondering; how do you guys know? I'm curious more because some people have some real weird names, and it would be a real shame if a DQ got tossed out for that. Is this more a situation of 'First: Not, Last: Telling'? I didn't notice a way for them to be kept blank, but...

We don't want to say any more at this time because if we give an example, that person knows they're in the Top 32 before any of the other Top 32 do.

Suffice it to say... we have more than one that has a name that's clearly not their real name, and need to be updated ASAP.

On the other hand, at this specific point in time, I really really wish that I had an obvious joke or non-real name in my profile :)

But, my name is Jake....

My name is- This Rounds Winner, I swear....;)

They know because once the 32 entrants are selected, the Judges give the Wondrous Item winner's list to the tech team, who associates each of the items with their submitters and then posts the list online for all; this is the part where they found the two entrants who are not in compliance.

Thanks for the heads up, people!

I think Mr or Mrs Phantom was concerned that the judges might be mistaking some Picabo Street for a nonperson, but Sean has clarified that at least two of these are not the names of real people.

I hope those two make their way onto the internet some time before Tuesday. That would be a really rough mistake to make.

Yeah, that was my exact concern there. But yes, thank you for the clarification!

Well, this sucks. My hope boiled over for a second. However, my real name is on my account. If it hadn't been I would have reason to think that you were talking about me and that I had made it into the top 32.

Well, keep in mind that if 2 people don't have their name right, it stands to reason that 34 people do. (32 - 2 + 4 alternates).

36 minus 2 is... let's see... anybody?

I think you're better off with your real name, no? :P

Wikipedia claims either mongeese or mongooses is acceptable -- so clearly it's not me that has my name in wrong for disqualification purposes...

Well, if nothing else I know I have a personal setting page... don't think I knew that was there since I created my account. :)

A certain character named Rikki Tikki Tavi comes to my mind for some reason. :) May I call you Rikki as a nickname?

Just so you know, my real name is Kerney Williams. It's an unusual name. But this is a C.Y.A. post.

I'll come right out and say that these two names would be far more unusual than that.

There was an NBA player named God Shamgod. I hope they reveal their fake names after this is over. I am so curious.

A thread about fake names in a forum where I can't post using an alias... So much potential humor wasted!

I think you'll find plenty here who are willing to legally change their names to whatever is in those fields - be it odd, unpronounceable, vulgar, or composed entirely out of ampersands and asterisks.

...that's how it works, right? Whoever's real first name matches the ones on the winning entries...

I presume we're talking about something as unusual as Asmodeus Dragonpants or Rexxxor the Giantslayer, so it's pretty obvious they're not real names. Anyway, while my name is neither of the above, it may sound strange but is in fact a fairly common Finnish name.

As an aside, I once met a Japanese guy whose first name was Yusaku. The funny thing is that it's pronounced "you suck". :D

This is a good point to mention that naming your child "Asmodeus Dragonpants" will technically fall within the rules, but is considered "not really Superstar behavior."

True, but it's not Mr. Dragonpants's fault if his father was such a ... creative mind. :P

Bump.

You do not want to get DQed for this.

It is what it is, at they say.

But, on a more ruthless note (no offense), does this mean two of the four alternates can be "tapped"?

*hastily double checks profile*

Nope, all correct here.

*goes back to waiting for results and biting nails*

maybe this only adds to the chaos but here in Aachen (Germany) lives a man named "Jo B@!&!".
I wonder how they sort out those who just had bad fortune when their parents were asked for a name.

ôA,

EDIT: nice auto replacement... of course Mr B#$&!'s surname does not contain any asterisks or exclamation marks.

Heh, there's a climate scientist named Bastardi. I went 'coolest name ever'

At least there are a few of us that know for certain without checking that we have our names correct in our Personal Settings. :)

I might not have had my real name in profile. So I might have changed it. And if it was not my real name, of which I am not saying it was or not, it probably would have been pretty clear that it wasn't, otherwise I might not have changed it, if I did.

That's all I'm sayin'.

lol The thing you have to remember. It's only people who made the 32 who are being called out on this. So, even if your name isn't real and you submitted an item, it doesn't necessarily mean that they are talking about you. :)

Not wanting to overthink this or waste people's time, but I want to be perfectly clear: My first and last name are on my account profile, but when I posted my submission, I used this alias, which my account lists as "Alias of Firstname Lastname". Is that in compliance?

Yes. All of your alias' are tied to your account profile. As long as your First and Last Name are correct on your account profile, that is all that matters.

Odd real names of real people I know that shows that some names may sound fake, but are actually not.

1 Michale, Mikael, Michael....My half brother. yes, Mike, Mike, Mike.
2 Richard Head....friends boss....yes he went by Dick Head
3 Richard Pain....A costumer at a Printing shop, yes he used Dick Pain
4 Richard Trickle....Nascar Driver
5 Richard Stillhard....English teacher in my old H.S
6 Billy Joe Morehead...old friend, she went by BJ

oh and I was not sure of his first name, but was ironically appropriate that his last name fit his job....
my drill instructor in the army was Sargent Paine.

Sovereign Court

Yeah, the husband of my brother's second grade teacher was named Harold Dick.

And people wondered why that boy had issues.

One of my undergrad advisors was a Dr. Benjamin Wa.

It doesn't mean that it doesn't, particularly if I did submit an item, which I'm not saying that I did.

One thing that I can do with impunity is contribute to the threadjack. I knew a guy named Justin Case. And I heard of a guy named Reverend Ivan Odor.

All those "real name" or not issues always remind me of this one:

Who is Bobby Tables?

*SCNR* - I really love that one.

My grandmother was an English teacher back in the day, so I suspect she saw a lot of odd names. She has claimed to actually know:

  • A Barbie and Ken Doll
  • Two sisters named Ima and Ura Hogg

When I clicked the link Vic provided, I found that my first and last name were blank, so it looks like whatever I did when I made this account, I managed to leave the name blank.

I wonder if that's good news for me?

In any case, my main point in posting this is to urge everyone to check the link provided, even if you don't think you are the kind of person who would use a joke name--you might have left it blank, like me.

My wife's OBGYN was named "Dr. Bush".

But...but... I am Kaiser Soze.

Many years ago I briefly went to a dentist named "Dr. Paine".
