We're definitely in the final stage of Round One!

Hi there!

I'm a Guest Judge in Round One! And I can see these AWESOME Top 32 entries, thanks to the terrifically talented Ross Byers (who just fixed a small glitch).

So this is just a small update to let you guys know that the process is moving forward! Now Matt Goodall, myself, and Alex MacLeod have 4 days to review 32!

Whoohoo!

Dark Archive Star Voter Season 6

woooo! are they as good as Neil says they are?

Good god, there's a process?!

Of course there is:

  • Submit item
  • Agonize over submission for weeks
  • Groan painfully on the day of the reveal
  • Wait a year
  • Repeat

:)

This is my first time competing. If I'd known what it was going to be like beforehand, I would have done the sensible thing and bought my antacid in bulk.

4 days, 1 hour, and 45 minutes to go!

Ummm...I think you mean 36. You've got 4 alternates to review and comment on as well, my friend. If you get through 9 per day, you should be fine. ;-)

Spoiler:

...though I'd shoot for 12 per day, if I were you.

As I have completely forgotten from last year, what time are the Top 32 going to be announced on Tuesday? Was it 2pm PST?

That's my assumption, for what it's worth. If not, then my counter is off.

Yep. 2PM PST. 5PM EST. For everyone else, figure it out from there. Or set your local time in your profile and the main RPG Superstar page will do it for you.

Woo hoo! I'm a three-(soon to be four-)time veteran of this process! :)

Personally, I'd say that the final stage of Round 1 only starts once the Round 2 entries are all submitted and the Round 1 winners at last have the time to go back and respond to all the comments which have amassed on their item threads...
;)
Okay, that was naughty, and I failed my Will save...

Neil, how does one do this? does putting in the city/state I live in, in the location field of my profile accomplish this?

I know I rushed one year to submit an entry, only to realize that, due to time zone changes, I had three hours longer then I thought I did. (I know, like, three hours of more tweaking and agonizing would have made the difference.)

Spoiler:
note to self: don't wait until 3 hours before the end of a round to submit....

Go to the RPG Superstar page and under the 2011 schedule right under the box listing the separate rounds you should find the link to change the time.

It should look like this:

All events are at 2 PM Pacific time. Dates and times displayed above are in the US/Central time zone.
Click here to change your time zone.
The current time is X, Y XX, XXXX, XX:XX PM US/Pacific

or you can go to your account
then go to Message board settings and click edit
then change the time zone there.

And yes Uncle Neil, 36.. 36..

Its going to be a busy weekend, between this and the happenings on Smuggler's Shiv this Sunday night. You see, I'm not just a Paizo Judge, I'm a client!

Of course, I'm running the third section of Skinsaw Murders this Sunday, so that will have to do.

I fear this is going to be my first and last shot at RPG Superstar... I'm such a nervous wreck! I've gnawed my finger nails down to the knockles :D

If I don't make it I still look forward to seeing the T32 with excitement.

I know exactly where you're coming from. Last year I was the same way and even though I didn't make the top 32 it was still a wild ride and I'm glad I gave it a shot. There's a lot to be learned and a lot of superb advice given by the wonderful people in the forums and the great staff. I'm still very new to this community and I don't get the chance to post often but there's still thanks to be given to those that do because I know the bits and pieces I've picked up have improved my GMing remarkably.

This year I got lucky and have been spending so much of my free time helping my fiance' make utterly wild and outrageous foam weapons for his Amtgard group that I haven't had time to freak out over the contest. Keeping busy definitely helps with the anxiety and yet I imagine come time on Tuesday I'll be going nuts hitting "refresh" on my browser until the results are up or it crashes.

Regardless of the results, I want to wish everyone who entered the best of luck and and say Job Well Done to everyone that entered.

I'm still working on finishing up Crown of the Kobold King for my group, a bunch of (mostly) new players. I'll probably jump into an adventure path after that, but I'm not sure which yet - but probably Carrion Crown; the timing should be about right.

As I was typing something sassy (but in good fun) about simple math, the words "Stupid Americans" came to mind. It was then I realized this is open to people around the world.

Thanks for the insight, Neil.

Gah! So much pressure! At least all of my friends are rooting me on. They think I have a real winner of an item (first year participating). So I suppose we'll see if my friends have any taste based on whether I'm in the top 32(+4)...

I hate the waiting!

just tell us who won already!!!!!! xD

Contributor, RPG Superstar 2009, RPG Superstar Judgernaut

We can't. At least not until the guest judges for this round have added their commentary...a couple of which still need to get it in gear.

:D
We already know who won. And we know who won because:

Neil Spicer wrote:

Spoiler:
...you have already won. Seriously. Taking that first step is sometimes the hardest. But once you get going, you build up confidence much faster. Full speed ahead. And good luck.

My two cents,

So, there you have it from the master...

Oh you say that now Hograth. But if you want something badly enough you'll try for it every year.

The Sinister Chris wrote:

Err, I thought it was a case of if you wanted something badly enough you'll hire ninja minions to abduct Clinton Boomer*, Jim Groves*, Trevor Gulliver*, and Neil Spicer* (Paizo can always find another judge) and hold them captive in your cellar being tortured by having their feat tickled with feathers until they write your entries for you. You also (as a backup plan) have an extradimensional portal ready to unleash a horde of Golarion goblins on the Paizo offices.

And that's just for a start...

*I assume a desperado who lives in the US/Canada, and for the convenience of avoiding extra transportation costs abducting North American continent superstars is the thing which makes the most sense. Consider Matt Goodall and Christine Schneider on the list if transportation costs (and customs checks) are seriously no problem.

Edit:
Actually, forget using ninjas on Christine Schneider. She has a level in samurai... (See her profile.)

The Exchange Star Voter Season 6, Star Voter Season 7, Dedicated Voter Season 8

I don't need to hire ninjas. I am a ninja. That, and I'm pretty sure I'm just a stone's throw away living on the East side of Washington state. Unless I'm confused and they're not located in the Seattle area... It seems like half of all game developers come from Washington state, and the other half comes from the UK!

The same stat might hold true for Serial K... Oh, never mind.

It'll be 10pm here in London. Grrr. We have to wait a whole eight hours extra. (That is how time zones work, isn't it?)

I have a plan so cunning it's grown fox's whiskers and wasnt thought of by Baldric.

I just have to overcome an aversion to certain styles of clothing.

You see...

Next year...

I'm going to abduct Sean, put him in the basement, wear his clothes and take his place on the judges panel. I just have to growl a lot, be mean and teasing in the forums and no one will know.

Now all I need to do is bring myself to wear striped wooly jumpers.

Anthony Adam wrote:

I would like to point out a little something. I know by jumper you mean what people stateside know as a 'sweater', but...

Wikipedia wrote:

A jumper (in American English), pinafore dress or pinafore (British English) is a sleeveless, collarless dress intended to be worn over a blouse, shirt or sweater.

In British English, the term jumper describes a sweater.

So you've just insinuated to American readers that one of our judges has a tendency to wear striped dresses.

The more you know. :)

Also the image of a woolen dress ---- shudder.
