This is my first game so I'm not sure at all of what I'm doing but I'm usually halfway decent IRL of coming up with random things to say that make people laugh. And Thanoi kind of lends himself to comments like that.
This is my first play by post as well. I am enjoying everyone's writing so far.
Since we're likely to be engaging in our first combat soon, I've got a question that will probably require a GM call.
With the spells I have prepped right now, my effectiveness against undead is less than spectacular, but my evil eye hex should still be able to contribute. I was thinking that I could use a Dancing Lights spell to mark enemies that have been weakened by the hex as an in-character way to coordinate with the party, but little floating balls of light are kind of hard to miss when moving through a city. So here's what I'm wondering.
The spell description for Dancing Lights states that they move as I will them, requiring no action on my part and being able to move up to 100 feet per round, the lights just have to stay within 10 feet of each other (so I probably won't be able to mark more than 2 at a time). If I have a Dancing Lights spell active, can I have them float beneath my cloak to obscure the light they give off until I need it?
I like the idea of using them to mark the targets of my hex, but I don't think it's worth my 1st round if I'm casting it at the start of each combat.
I have a question. When I do something like cast bless do I need to spell out what the spell does in the post or can I assume we all know what it does and will remember to add in the bonus on our rolls?
Hey Asara, just realized that I haven't greeted you uet. So welcome to the party. As for your question it isn't a bad idea to say a short description such as :
I cast Bless (+1 to Attack for X number of rounds, for those who are X number of feet from me).
But even at that most of us here have the books or the psrd available so we can check what it does. It speeds up play, not as if it would make a real difference in PBP, but it is always nice so that we can reffer to it again.
I'm very new at all this so I'm not real sure about some things. To strike a ghost or wraith you need a magic weapon correct? kinda like it says here ...
As long as he has at least 1 point in his ki pool, a monk can make a ki strike. At 4th level, ki strike allows his unarmed attacks to be treated as magic weapons for the purpose of overcoming damage reduction.
Ah...you see the problem is, yes you can try and hit the bugger. But since the thing is insubstantial, there is still something like a 50% miss chance.
Weapons/spells of force will do the trick. Such as Magic Missile holy strikes should also do the trick, since they just damage Undead.
So, yeah, you can Ki pool up your monk, but I'm thinking there's going to be that 50% miss chance happening. Unless there's a Ki power that acts as 'Force' type energy?

Been there, kind'a done that. I kept a few adventuring friends together through two DM's....
Plus, there might be computer troubles. Internet access problems...a whole raft of complications...
Still, we have to give this DM a chance. Patience is a virtue....

I'm kinda handy with computers and Databases, I can be the skills monkey ... maybe hack the dairy database and get his picture put on milk cartons.
So far I really like this group and I'm willing to continue playing .. and I like the DM for giving me a chance to play so I'm also willing to continue waiting on him, and it is right at the holidays and a lot of the US has been being hit pretty hard with bad weather the last week or so ...
