All of the local gnoll packs are thought to cower under the claws of the Carrion King, a legendary gnoll sovereign who is said to rule from a stronghold on Pale Mountain, the ruins of Jhavhul's ancient House of the Beast. But as for pugwampis, you'd never heard of them before, let alone any connexion between them and gnolls.

Casting detect magic reveals little: the odd glimmer within the main chapel and from overhead (?) suggests the presence of the odd low-powered item, but nobody seems to be chucking spells around at the moment.
Apart from your good self, that is.
Megan Robertson |
A thin balcony overlooks the chapel floor some twenty feet below. Two rows of tall-backed wooden choir chairs dominate the southern reach of the balcony, which hugs the chapel's concave walls. The balcony falls away — collapsed for a span of perhaps fifteen feet — just on the other side of the choir area. To the east, rickety time-worn wooden rafters stretch across the whole chapel. Two huge sections of these rafters have been engulfed in a sort of nest comprised of a patchwork of random bits of cloth.
The knotted rope suspending the gnoll-skull candelabra jerks and jumps as a runty little creature dressed in crude furs scrambles from far above to gain a foothold on the swaying skulls. With a squeaky laugh, this gremlin casts a rude gesture in your direction...
Hale Caress |
Did the map change by the way? Do we see more? ...also is there a stairway of some sort that lets us reach the balcony?
Hale looks up at the little jackal-headed creature with disgust, "YOU LITTLE RUNT! SURRENDER YOUR FILTHY MAGGOT-RIDDEN ARSE TO US NOW!" Intimidate, to demoralize 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
Megan Robertson |
Of course, here's your new map: updated map
There appears to be a rickety ladder leading upwards into the shadows at point A2a, although the pugwampi who's making indelicate gestures is hanging above the sort of blot in the centre of the room. Looks like some kind of framework and rafters above, mostly in shadow so it is difficult to make out.
The AP text advises using a battlemap here, even if you do not normally play out brawls on one, so bear with me!
Hale - the only response you get is a comment about your mother that would get me banned if I even thought about posting it! Oh, and another obscene gesture...
Gander Longstalks |
Gander calmly observes the creature above as he reaches for his slingstaff and a bullet, playing the bullet in the leather cup and preparing to sling it upwards.
How far away is the Pugwampi? Gander's ready to try an attack from where he's standing on the ground if this is the appropriate time for initiative checks and all.
Amar Furzen |
Hm... seems like these creatures are having some kind of intelligence. Oh, that is an interesting gesture. What could that possible mean? Amar watches, but upon hearing the comment of the mother of Hale Wow... I would have never knew that... um, actually, what am I thinking
Getting little bit confused and thinking too deeply, Amar shakes his head. Better to end this fast. Seems like the creature need to learn some manners and moves forward to release Frost of Ray upon the vile monster
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
1d3 ⇒ 2
Megan Robertson |
The dangling pugwampi squeaks yet another improper comment as a sling bullet bounces off his nose. Blood begins to flow...
Meanwhile, at the ladder...
Hale begins to climb, Romo hot on her heels. All seems to be going fine, then her foot slips, coming down hard on one of Romo's fingers. Apparently she doesn't find the finger sure footing, as she then falls off, crashing into Romo moments before both end up in a heap on the floor. Bad luck...
About half a dozen squeaky laughs can be heard from above.
Amar Furzen |
Amar sighs... God.. and I always though that I was clumsy... Looking around and trying to find a way, Amar keeps it far away from creature Tsk... my sense is tingling that something is wrong here. Misfortune always befall on us when we are dealing with these creature. First yesterday and second time now
Continuing with his shooting, Amar releases another set of Ray of Frost
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21 1d3 ⇒ 2
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20 1d3 ⇒ 2
Seems to be me that we need to roll twice now
Megan Robertson |
LOL
Amar feels some slight satisfaction as the dangling, giggling pugwampi gets a bit frosty round the edges.
The pugwampi, however, feels even less happy as Gander's next sling bullet strikes it, ahem, in the groin. His eyes are watering, shall we say?
Several more gremlin-like heads are now peering down, most laughing at you but a few fingers are being pointed at their unfortunate pack-mate as well.
Megan Robertson |
Um... how do I put this? As you climb slowly and carefully, watching where you put your hands and feet, you feel a wet stream on your head. A warm wet stream...
You pause, clinging on tightly, and peer upwards to see a pugwampi, ahem, adjusting his breeches. He cackles and scampers off across the rafters.
You may proceed and reach the top without further incident.
Amar Furzen |
Amar watches in amusement how Pugwampi and Hale are having.... battle of wills.
Seeing how the situation is starting to be, Amar grabs dagger from his belt [move action] and launch it towards Pugwampi
Hand of Apprentice: 7/8 use left
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
1d4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Megan Robertson |
Hale, as I said, you reach the top of the ladder without further incident. You find that it leads up to the choir balcony. The rotting wooden 'booths' are inscribed with religious symbols, but the whole apparatus is in terrible shape and literally crumbles to the touch.
Several pugwampis are here, and it is apparent that - apart from the one who was distracted by a call of nature - they intend to fire arrows into the intruders on the ground floor. At the sight of you, they panic and scream, the screams being returned from around the rafters.
The rope that supports the gnoll-skull chandelier is tied off to the southwestern rafter near the edge of the balcony.
Romo can also make his way up to the top of the ladder.
And I think it's time for full-blown initiatives, please.
Pugwampi initiative: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
Megan Robertson |
Khismia: proxy die roll 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5 and she will cast shield of faith on Hale, given that she's up the ladder and about to mix it with some pugwampi!
Apologies for the lousy roll, those darn pugwampis are even getting to me!
OK, everyone state their action, and roll the appropriate dice, then I'll resolve the round. No need to post in initiative order, I'll sort it out. You have until Tuesday morning my time as I have a job interview tomorrow!
Hale Caress |
Hale follows Romo's lead - drawing a dagger into each hand - and attacks the same pugwampi (and if possible moves into flanking against it). She slashes with one of her dagger at its throat, her rage roaring at its pathetic face.
Attack 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19 damage 1d4 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
Edit:
AC: -2 rage, +2 shield of faith, unchanged at 16
Rage rounds used: 1/6
Amar Furzen |
Trying to find out, what he should do, Amar looks above. Focusing, he will cast Grease under pugwampis.
10' ft area. Any creature in the area when the spell is cast mustmake a successful Reflex save or fall. A creature can walk withinor through the area of grease at half normal speed with a DC 10Acrobatics check. Failure means it can’t move that round (andmust then make a Reflex save or fall), while failure by 5 or more means it falls
Not sure if I´m able to do that. If not, I will go with casting Ray of Frost again
Attack 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5 and Damage 1d3 ⇒ 1
Megan Robertson |
Initiative order is:-
- Gander
- Hale
- Pugwampis
- Romo + Amar
- Khismia
Gander, the dangling pugwampi is still there, so you hurl another sling bullet at him, catching him between the eyes. He slumps unconscious then begins to slip from his rope...
Hale runs yelling at the pugwampi who **** on her slashing with her dagger. He falls back blood streaming down his face. One of his eyeballs now adorns your dagger tip as he also slumps unconscious.
The other 3 pugwampis on the balcony look decidedly taken aback. One flees, one stands looking a bit stunned and only one has the presence of mind to raise his bow - 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6 - not that it does him much good!
There's another couple over on the far side. One shoots at Gander 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8 and the other at Amar 1d2 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5. Both miss horribly. Must have a word with the pugwampi archery tutor!
Romo slashes at the same pugwampi that Hale's attacking, but his swing goes wide as she drops him.
Amar, a grease spell is fine but upon which group of pugwampis are you casting it - the ones on the balcony Hale & Romo have climbed up to or the ones on the rafters at the far side?
Khismia is busy with her spellcasting...
... and the pugwampi Gander knocked unconscious hits the floor with a nasty squelchy SPLAT accompanied by the sound of several bones breaking!
Please post actions & relevant die rolls for next round
Gander Longstalks |
A nasty smile graces Gander's face as he eyes the splatted pugwampi he'd shot. Then he turnes to search for the next enemy.
Not sure if the one that shot at him is within range but if so, Gander will target him next.
"Shoot at me, will you?" Gander mutters as he places another bullet and lets it fly.
Attack with slingstaff: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Gander growls an oath in gnollish as his shot goes wild.
Amar Furzen |
Grease will be against the ones on the rafters at the far side
Seeing that his spell is freezing area around the pugwampis, Amar turns and whistles. Soon, Azh speeds out to his arm. Raising his hand and taking 5' step for speed, he throws Azh directly towards the pugwampis, who are standing next to Hale and Romo
1d20 - 2 ⇒ (17) - 2 = 15 I believe it will be "Throw Anything" :P so -4 penalty for this and... unfortunately, no damage :(
Azh flying towards the pugwampis, readies his pincers and sting to hit the pugwampis, being black mini death from above
Melee 2 claws -2 (1d2-4 plus grab), sting +6 (1d2-4 plus poison)
2x Claw Attack 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (17) - 2 = 15 & 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (8) - 2 = 6+ grab if succesfull
2x Claw Damage 1d2 - 4 ⇒ (2) - 4 = -2 & 1d2 - 4 ⇒ (2) - 4 = -2 | 1 non-lethal damage, since below 1
Sting Attack 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
Sting Damage 1d2 - 4 ⇒ (2) - 4 = -2 + poison if hit. DC 12 vs Fort
