Just realized Hale is on 5 of 8 rage rounds... level 2!

Romo drops the torch and takes out his glaive, and moves in behind the creature, trying to flank it with Hale.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Hale dives forwards and skewers the dining critter... it's dead before Romo has time to get into position.

The two in the rafters dive upon the pair of you...

Critter #1: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8... miss! It circles round, four wings flapping furiously as it tries to reposition, hissing like a steam kettle.

Critter #2: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17... a hit, a hit, a palpable hit. Its barbed legs clutch Romo's right arm as it attempts to plunge its proboscis into his body...

Do I get to make an attack of opportunity on the one coming for me? Since I have a glaive out with reach. How big are these creatures, and how far can they reach?

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Go on then... have a slash at it!

They are about a foot in length, with four fleshy wings and barbed legs.

Attack 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
Damage 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

Liberty's Edge

Critter #2 struggles lopsidely to maintain its balance as you hack one of its wings clean off, Romo... but it is still clinging to your arm.

Hale steps next to Romo and slashes at the pathetic oversized insict that tries to cling to him. Her dagger passes straight through its body and splashes to the ground lifelessly next to her.

Attack 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17 damage 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

Romo looks down at the creature for a second to see if he recognises it.

K Nature : 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19

Liberty's Edge

Nice one, Hale!

Critter #1 decides discretion is the better part of valour and returns to the rafters, glaring down at you and still hissing.

Romo, after some thought you recognise it as a stirge.

Hale snaps a second dagger to her hand and flicks it up at the winged critter in the rafters - but the shot goes wide and clatters down to the floor again moments later.

Attack 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8 damage 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

"kshh" Hale hisses in disappointment.

Female Human, Keleshite Oracle of Life

With the critter out of reach, Khismia sighs in relief.

I am a bit confused about the layout of the place; could we have a map update please?

"These are Stirges. Nasty things. Don't let them come close to you."

Romo rummages through his backpack for a second and produces a light pick. He draws the weapon in a 270 degree arc and flings it at the critter.

Attack 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23

Damage 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

Hmm. Lost my dot and had no idea there'd been updates to the game. Suddenly I see that things have been happening! Oops.

Gander rolls his eyes, fits a bullet into the cup on his slingstaff, and whirls a bullet at the beast Hale had just missed.

Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

"Bugger all," he growls.

Seeing the stirge reduced to its component parts as Romo expertly flings his hammer at it, she nods appreciatively. "Nice. Bloody pests." She recovers her dagger and takes a closer look around after recovering the torch. Perception 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

Your wish is my command - Map update. You are currently standing in A10.

Romo, you've dispatched the last stirge with a skilfully-thrown pick.

Hale, you find that your dagger has landed in something unidentifiable but really rather icky. And a sort of yellowish-green colour.

Khismia, from what you know of monastic life, this would be a so-called 'chapter house' where monks would gather for communal readings of scripture (often a set chapter for the day, hence the name) and for discussions of administrative matters that affected the whole community.

Do you want to search here or move on, now that the stirges are dead?

"This room is disgusting. We should let one of the servants clean it up later. Let's move on, shall we?"

Gander turns to look back the way they'd come.

"Ugh! What is this vile stuff?" as she picks up her dagger, careful to scrape the goo off. "What was the one on the floor eating anyway?" In spite of the gunk, Hale has a good look around the room. "Go right ahead Gander, I don't expect any more surprises here."

Romo grabs his pick by ripping it from the creature. "You do like scratching around in dirty places 'ey Hale?"

He has a look around the room for anything out of the ordinary.

Perception 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7

Then follows Gander back out for some fresher air.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Hale, would you care to roll me a Perception, please?

Gander & Romo: you retrace your steps out towards the cloisers. It's odd. The vegetation in the middle is swaying about wildly, yet there isn't a breath of air where you're standing.

Certainly

Perception 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

"Yea, this stuff is gross," with obvious disdain she gives the room a marginal once-over.

Gander glances at Romo. "Have you ever seen plants do that before?"

He glances up at the ceiling to see if there might be a cause within view there.

Perception Check: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

The cloister is open to the sky in the middle, with quite a lot of vegetation. And... you think you can see something moving in there. Maybe that's why it's thrashing about!

Gander sighs and raises his slingstaff in preparation.

"Whatever you are up there, come down right now or I'll bring you down with a stone in your arse."

He readies to attack if there's any sign of a threat.

On the spur of a realization Hale returns to the big hall specifically A1b then back again to A9 and A10. "Khismia! Come look at this: the angles of the walls don't add up in the main hall and here. I think there ought to be a room between the two places."

Romo quickly takes out his glaive.

"What did you see? is there something up there Gander?"

Romo squints as he tries to focus on a target

Perception 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22

Hale goes looking for Khismia, who seems to have gotten distracted with the murals. "Ey! You're pretty, so don't make me drag you here by your hair - come! Have a look at this."

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Romo & Gander: The pair of you move towards the central open area of the cloister. Huge branches and overgrown weeds clog the courtyard. In better times, the monastic priests would have contemplated the open space while circling the cloister, but today it is barely possible to see a few feet into the tangled mess, let alone all the way to the opposite cloister walk. Here and there the brush thins out enough that a dedicated explorer might be able to create a sort of passage, but mostly it is an impassable mess.

But there's something moving in there...

"Perhaps it's a snake or something that has made a nest in that mess. If it were a pugwampis, I think it would have reacted by now."

Gander keeps his slingstaff ready, even as he peers up into the dense brush.

"Should we try and burn it out, maybe?"

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

You catch a flash of it... white and brown... possibly feathers rather than fur...

"Is that a bird? Maybe it made a nest up there. I don't really see much point in bothering it."

"Yea. Could be a bird."

Romo rests his back against one of the walls, and takes a breath.

Afterward he shouts "Come people, we have much left of this damned place."

He points at the opening to his side (left on map), "Let's go in there.

He waits for the others to join, before leading the way.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

To the north?

There's a narrow plain corridor, along the East wall, leading off into darkness. There's some patchy light ahead, you reckon some of the ceiling might have fallen in up ahead.

Female Human, Keleshite Oracle of Life

Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16

Khismia looks up to what everyone seems to be squinting at, but doesn’t seem to manage any better than the rest of them.

She waits for the rest of the people to move on, and then follows them northwards.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

As Khismia squints at the undergrowth, there's quite a commotion as a large white and brown bird takes wing and flies off, up out of the courtyard and away.

May I have a party order for the corridor, please?

Gander plans to take second place in the line-up. He's got his slingstaff ready and will follow whoever takes the lead (Romo?).

Hale takes the rear, still wondering about the weird space that is unaccounted for.

Female Human, Keleshite Oracle of Life

Khismia will be second from last, curious to know what is happening in front but cautious enough to not get in the way.

Next stage of the map

As you make your way along the hallway, you see that it opens out to your right, with some rooms opening off to each side. There are several holes in the ceiling, and a remarkably intact window in the wall to your left, looking out over the desert.

The door across the hall hangs open.

"Shall we start with the right?" The bit between A13 and A6

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

The door to that room is shut.

Hale tries to open the door - failing that she'll kick it instead. If that too fails, she'll open the floor to Romo and Gander to do their thing with doors.

Female Human, Keleshite Oracle of Life

Seeing Hale kicking at the door Khismia runs up to stop her,
"Please ,Hale , stop. The monastery has already seen enough abuse. Please, can someone open this door more...gently?"

Khismia looks around and takes a big breath, it will take a lot of effort to restore this place.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Fortunately for the poor door, it's unlocked...

This is what you see...

A sagging wooden balcony overlooks this large room, which must once have been the monastery's library. An overpowering odor of musty, rotting paper and old leather fills the air here, and hundreds of books ? most too damaged even to open without destroying them ? litter the floors. Empty bookshelves line the walls of both levels.

Several black-furred faces peer out of the open door across the hall - baboons! One large one appears to be grinning at you...

"Babboons in a library?" Gander says, disbelieving. "I feel like we've stumbled into a joke."

Ready to attack one of the babboons with his sling bullet if any of them act to threaten the party.

Hale clicks her tongue disapprovingly. "Romo! Go take care of these pests!"

Romo charges the nearest baboon and slices at it with his glaive!

Attack: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 5 + 2 = 22

"Let us not judge them by their literary taste..."

Damage: 1d10 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14

"...but by their screams of agony!"

"Lyrical, are you?" Hale follows behind Romo, daggers drawn to hand. She stops next to Romo (or behind if there is no space), readying to attack any baboon strong enough to challenge Romo and get passed his glaive.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

The baboon is still grinning... but its head is no longer attached to its body, courtesy of Romo's glaive! The head rolls down the corridor, as half a dozen more pile out of the room across the hall from the library, chittering angrily.

Two of them move to attack him, one coming from the front and the other circling round.

Baboon #1 (in front): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8 - it snaps its jaws in an attempt to bite, but clearly doesn't want to get in range of the glaive that is dripping with its pack-mate's blood.

Baboon #2 (flanking): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22 - this one grabs your arm and grapples with you!

Hale, you can get in a poke at Baboon #2, or go for the one which is coming at you, arms outstretched.

The other 3 are watching from the doorway, just making a lot of noise.

I assume Romo would get one attack-of-opportunity, owing to his reach weapon.

Hale stabs the baboon that grapples Romo.

Attack 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12 damage 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
