19. You said before that lord Gyr of House Gixx is a mythic rogue. Yeah, I know Inner Sea Combat said otherwise, but... if he was confirmed as a mythic character, what would his source of mythic power be? More specifically, would it be the Starstone? That he gained the mythic power from the Starstone but failed to become a demigod, maybe?

20. Absalom is famous for its hippocampus riders. I'm curious. Can hippocampi live in fresh water? Or they can only live in salt water?

21. Absalom is the biggest city in the world. Does that mean its population is the biggest? Or does that mean its area is the biggest?

22. Those Azlanti that were saved by aboleths became the first gillmen. The fact that aboleths bothered to save them means these humans were irredeemably lawful evil, which means gillmen are evil. But it seems that Absalom is on good terms with gillmen. Why did no one realize that gillmen are servants of aboleths? I wonder what would Aroden say if he found out this vile alliance between Absalom and gilllmen before his death.

23. Do the people on Golarion know the origin of gillmen, that they were originally Azlanti?

24. In the devastated continent of Azalnt, are there some survivors? I have always suspected that there would be some pureblood Azlanti settlements in the old Azlant.

19) What I say on the forums here isn't canon. What gets published is. In any case, he's never done anything with the Starstone Cathedral. He has no real interest in becoming a god.

20) They do fine in both waters.

21) It's the biggest (in population) city in the Inner Sea Region. Goka, on Tian-Xia, is bigger, and I kind of prefer IT being the biggest city on Golarion. As for size? That's not something we've really nailed down yet in a way I'm satisfied with.

22) That doesn't mean that at all. Gillmen are not inherently evil at all.

23) Some do, most don't.

24) There's an entire Azlant-themed adventure path coming out in the 2nd half of the year. You'll find answers there, I suspect.

25. I really wish Paizo write an article about the city of Bildt and Jol. Then I found out there's a Thassilonian ruin under Jol, and it was once part of Cyrusian, the Domain of Pride. So, can I assume that, until Paizo publish an adventure path that defeats Xanderghul, there would be no chance for Paizo to write an article regarding Jol?

26. I really wish Paizo write rules about the Hellstorm Flumes. But the Hellstorm Flumes and Alaznist are closely intertwined. Does that mean until Paizo publish an adventure path that defeats Alaznist, there would be no chance for Paizo to write rules regarding the Hellstorm Flumes?

27. Also, by the same logic, should I assume that Paizo would not publish the dungeon of Hollow Mountain and Crystilan until it publishes the Alaznist and Belimarius adventure paths?

28. Thassilon's territory includes part of the Linnorm kingdoms. At the time of Thassilon, were there Ulfen? Did Xin and Thassilon know the existence of blonde, white, tall humans in the north?

29. The Seven Swords of Sin would reveal their true power only when the runelords reawaken. Then, if a PC or an apprentice of Karzoug decides to become a new Runelord of Greed after Karzoug died, would the sword of greed regain its true power? I'm not sure if these self-appointed runelords are considered legitimate or not.

25) Nope. You can't assume that.

26) I've been planning on expanding on the Hellstorm Flumes since "Burnt Offerings," and have dropped a few hints here and there, but I've not yet had the chance to do what I'm planning to do with them. Maybe some day. But that's a plot I'm keeping for myself to develop, so until I get the time and the "go ahead" to work on that story, it's gonna stay a mystery.

27) All that stuff is stuff I'm hoping to do something with some day. I would have loved to have taken part in writing the scripts for the comics set in Hollow Mountain, and had I been allowed to do that, I might have put some clues in there, but it wasn't in the cards.

28) Unrevealed.

29) Nope; they're not legitimate. To be a runelord, you need to have a Thassilon and an empire to rule. Simply killing Karzoug and saying "I'm a runelord now" doesn't really count much for the swords. Maybe if you prove to the swords over the course of a few years or decades... but not all at once.

30. I found that Paizo will release a campaign seting book called Aquatic Adventures. Does that mean we can finally visit and destroy the Eye of Abendego?

31. Mythic Adventures, Occult Adventures, and Horror Adventures are in the core rulebook category. But Aquatic Adventures is in the campaign setting category. Considering the title, shouldn't it be included in the core rulebook category?

32. Paizo published Guide to Darkmoon Vale in 2007. I'm curious, because Darkmoon Vale is just a part of a nation, which normally don't deserve a campaign setting book of its own. Yeah, I know Varisia has sereval settlements that have their own book, but that's because Varisia is the protagonist region in the world. Darkmoon Vale clearly isn't. And four modules take place in there. But then, Paizo never published an adventure path or modules that take place in there after that. I'm curious. What made Darkmoon Vale so special, if it's not a protagonist region? And why did Paizo suddenly lose interest in Darkmoon Vale?

33. In Guide to Darkmoon Vale, it's mentioned that the nymph queen Syntira is one of the Eleven Eternal Monarchs. Can I assume that the Eldest are demigods, and the Eternal Monarchs are quasi-deities?

34. You said that several early books like Elves of Golarion include outdated contents and thus we should read Inner Sea Races instead. Then are more recent books like Orcs of Golarion, Goblins of Golarion outated too? How about Guide to Darkmoon Vale?

35. I heard that many contents in Dragons Revisited are outdated too. Will Paizo publish a new revisited book about dragons?

36. Sargava, the Lost Colony is published as a player companion book, not a campaign setting book. Why didn't Paizo publish the book as a campaign setting book?

30) No.

31) No.

32) The author of that book wanted to write the book, so he wrote it. A fair amount of the books we publish come to be because an author in-house wants to write it. We didn't "suddenly lose interest" in Darkmoon Vale; we did several books and adventures set there, but Mike McArtor who wrote Darkmoon Vale and was perhaps its biggest fan, left Paizo for another job at about the time we published the first Campaign Setting hardcover, and so I suppose you could attribute him moving on to another goal that didn't involve Paizo as the reason why we haven't done much more with Darkmoon Vale since then.

33) The "Eternal Monarchs" are not something we continued to use.

34) Because that book was intended to be a player-friendly book to help players get into the Serpents' Skull Adventure Path.

1. If you want. If you do, please keep them as short and simple as possible.

2. List questions are only a pain to deal with if they get so wordy that the reply box truncates the questions in quoted text, forcing me to manually copy/paste the questions from one post to the other. Using spoiler tags makes it even more annoying and awkward, frankly, since the contents of a spoiler are not automatically quoted.

3. As long as when I reply the entire post of questions automatically gets quoted in that reply, how many questions you cram in there is irrelevant. I've generally found that 10 single line questions is a good metric to limit things to.

4. Since answering questions here isn't actually part of my job description, no, you don't. All you get is annoying if you do that. ;-)

1) There's no reason you can't use the demon transformation thing to apply to other fiends. But in Golarion, the fecundity of the Abyss and the nature of sin to demonic life is what makes that transformation more likely to happen than any other fiend. You might want to look at some of the corruptions in Horror Adventures too.

I just started reading through Hell's Rebels, while trying to decide which adventure path to run next, and I love it so far. So thank you!

The story of a crazy man seizing power, quickly enacting a whole bunch of insane laws, burning down and discrediting any organisation who stands against him and causing the population to rise up in mass protest is a rather frightening one. How do you think it would turn out if that happened in real life?

Hi, James. I have a question about Persistent Spell Metamagic Feats.

1) Does is apply to any save which include in a spell?

2) If not, how to judge these spell?

Glitterdust(have a save in first time but have new saves to stop spell effect)
Phantasmal Killer(have different saves in first time)
Aqueous Orb(effect different target, have different saves in different round)
Excruciating Deformation(spell active and require save round by round)

I have be asked by many PC in PFS game. So it's why need to take your time.

It's not meant to be cruel, but to build anticipation.

Any fight scene involving katanas with samurai is similar to the fighting style I envision with Aldori Swordlords.

I watched the first few episodes of Into the Badlands but it didn't capture my interest.

1) Whether or not Shensen's interested in relationships with the PCs in the campaign is left to the GM. She is bisexual. Her relationship with aquatic elves is something of an informal ambassador between Kintargo and the aquatic elves.

2) A nervous one.

Runelords are a Pathfinder thing, not a Starfinder thing. I'd rather not have the runelords play a role in Starfinder at all. I'd rather Starfinder make its own new built-in NPCs.

As for the whole Golarion vanishing in Starfinder... I'm not a part of that (and I don't really like that creative decision, but I'm not part of the Starfinder team, so it is what it is, I guess). I have no idea if they know what caused it, or if they plan to ever reveal what happened. The MAIN reason it's happened is an attempt to separate the two games—what happens in Pathifnder doesn't make canon for Starfinder, and vice versa.

1) I'm not sure off the top of my head. AKA: We're not treating it as one.

2) No plans at this point to do something special for a 10th Anniversary for the AP line. The celebration of hitting 100 issues was kind of a non-event from the customer side, so I kinda feel like our energy is better put to other uses than celebrating arbitrary numbers.

3a) At this point, it's not a project I'm personally interested in, but I don't necessarily make the calls as to what my projects are at Paizo.

3b) As soon as someone in management wants to put it on the schedule, influenced by someone being eager to work on it. It's not something that's 100% driven by numbers. Nor is it something I'm interested in giving a "realistic earliest date" for.

1) It's in the middle metaphorically, not physically.

2) Yes. I created Norgorber for my homebrew setting several decades ago... back in the late 80s/early 90s.

3) They know but don't really do much with them. They're sort of not on speaking terms, but neither are they antagonists. Part of why the PCs have to go through some extra hoops in Hell's Rebels is because of this lack of political contact.

4) They already know, so this question's a moot question. In any event, Cheliax is more interested in holding what it has now and not in expanding its borders so much at this point.

5) Brastlewark is part of Cheliax. Isger is not.

6) That book's information on the Lantern Bearers is about to be out of date. Look to the upcoming Adventurer's Guide for what the Lantern Bearers are like now that they're no longer under the thumb of the Winter Council. It wasn't an error at the time, since in that book, we presented info on the organization as it exists BEFORE Second Darkness. I don't need a time machine, and wouldn't use one to do that anyway. Part of what Second Darkness is about is the Lantern Bearers finding themselves and becoming actual good guys once the Winter Council is ended.

7) Drow are not irredeemably evil, but they are usually evil. Again... wait a few months for Adventurer's Guide and the Lantern Bearers section for more info on this. In any event, killing ANY evil character to stop them from doing more evil isn't an evil act, be they drow or goblin or human or bugbear or whatever.

8) No. No mortal race is irredeemably anything.

9) No and No.

10) Those are all fine. Elves of Golarion included. But read the knowledge that if you read something in an earlier book that contradicts something directly in a later book that the later book is probably more accurate.

11) Maybe.

1) Is a psychic weapon manifested by a Magus (Mindblade) using their psychic pool intended to count as "a weapon enhanced by their arcane pool" for the purpose of Magus Arcana (such as Bane Blade, Devoted Blade, Ghost Blade, or Planar Hunter) or Feats (such as Banishing Critical), or was that archetype intended to be unable to use those Arcana & Feats?

2) What is intended to happen if a Magus (Mindblade) takes Spell Blending at 3rd level before receiving Psychic Access at 4th level?

3) Why isn't Touch of Fatigue on the Magus spell list? (Pouts)

These are rules questions; you need to ask them on the rules board or maybe on the Ultimate Magic page, so that folks can FAQ it and so the design team will see the questions. I had no input into the design of the Magus or his spells other than to support the decision to use Seltyiel as the iconic for the class.

Silver Crusade

What sort of salary would the average city guard expect to make in a city like Korvosa?

1. What's your favorite city in Varisia?

2. Favorite place that isn't a city or town?

3. Whats an out-of-the-way place in Varisia that hasn't been covered in an AP or module that would be a good place to run an adventure?

Oh, I've read The Moon Bog (I think it was The Moon Bog) and liked it.

Question! Have you heard of/interested in Nioh?

Yup. Been playing it since day one. It's quite fun.
Yay! What weapons do you prefer to use? Favourite moment so far?

Single sword.

Seeing all these classic yokai all animated and dangerous.

What's been your favourite yokai so far?

1. One of mine players is a cleric of Dalenydra, and may take Deific Obedience feat (for prestige class). Since there isn't any description on Dalenydras obedience and boons, can you provide any advice on what sort of bonuses it should give?

2. At another campaign (Skull and Shackles) I'm playing a cleric of Bokrug. Because there isn't much info on his faith I found it hard to roleplay my character. Can you provide something like, well, "priest's role" and how does Bokrug's faithful view/understand him?

3. How should Dalenydra be pronounced correctly?

Well than I love the part you had a hand in! Seltyiel is one of my favorite Iconic NPCs in terms of aesthetics (actually I like all of the Half-Elf Iconics). Though I like all of the Pathfinder Iconics more than I liked any of the 3rd Edition D&D Iconics.

I've posted most of those questions (in concretely worded terms) on the rules forums already, and didn't get much traction. I'll try reposting them in Ultimate Magic or Occult Adventure's message board. Thank you for the swift response!

Did the Runelords worship any gods (or demon lords)?

Sorshen seems like she would worship Nocticula.

Some did. Alaznist worshiped several demon lords and qlippoth lords. Sorshen did not. Most of the runelords were not overly religious. Alaznist and Krune and maybe Zutha are the exceptions.

A followup question Mr Jacobs, if Sorshen did not worship any gods, demon lords, or in this case, Nocticula. Is this because Sorshen viewed Nocticula as 'competition' or a threat? Or are the two simply unaware of each other?

I've recently been sketching a ton of maps, as it is something I'm not particularly good at. To that end I've also picked up a bunch of the first books in the Adventure Path lines as those are typically around the level of games I enjoy running. (I have Wrath, Hell's Rebels, Hell's Vengeance, and Strange Aeons)

One thing I realized recently, is that I tend to draw rooms too small. I typically have 5 players, and love to draw 10' x 10' rooms. Obviously this doesn't work as you end up with a party that can't fit in the room before even adding an encounter to it. The same goes for hallways, which was mentioned in the Gamemastery Guide (Amazing book by the way!).

To get better at design in general, I would find it super useful to have a director's commentary printing of one of the modules or AP books, that goes into the why things were developed that way.

-Is that something you would be interested in doing?
--If so, what would be the best way for me to support that happening?

-Of the books I don't have, which do you think would be a good addition to my above collection?

Hey James, been a while since I've posted any questions here, how you been?

So game related question, what kind of CR would you start to aim for if you where to create a native unique good align outsider?

Dunno off the top of my head but I bet the answer is in Ultimate Campaign.

1) Magnimar, since Sandpoint's technically a town, not a city, otherwise it'd be Sadnpoint.

2) Hollow Mountain.

3) Anywhere.

Tough question... but probably the Joro-gumo.

1) Nope. I have no idea who Dalenydra is. In making up your own boons for deities, the first boon should be a choice between 3 spells that fit the faith's themes. When I created the system, the 2nd boon was intended to be about as powerful as a 1/day 7th level spell, and the 3rd one was intended to be about as powerful as a 1/day 9th level one, but the prestige classes prsented in Inner Sea Gods accelerate that too fast. If you want to use a 7th level and 9th level equivalent like I suggest, you should increase the prerequisites for the Inner Sea Gods classes so that you have to be 7th level before taking your first prestige class level at 8th. Otherwise, the 2nd boon should be equivalent to a 5th or 6th level spell and the 3rd one to a 7th or 8th level spell.

2) I can suggest you read Lovecraft's "Doom that Came to Sarnath" and then check out the Call of Cthulhu RPG for more details. Or just search for info about Bokrug on the internet. He was invented close to 100 years ago, after all...

3) Dunno. I still don't know who that is.

Nope. It's because she wasn't religious, and though of herself as the one who folks should worship. She wasn't threatened by Nocticula or any of the gods, and she did indeed know about her. She just wasn't religious.
