Treantmonk's Guide to Rogues

Advice

I've got one question. Where is Treantmonk's Guide to Rogues (Optimization)?

Treantmonk, I loved your comments and observations on rangers, monks, druids, and wizards. Please do one for rogues.

Come on, everyone. Sign the petition. Ask Treantmonk put his brilliant mind to work on rogues.

I thought he had done one. Petition for Guide to _____ would be a better title. Now I will go to a corner and cry out of sadness.

You forgot he also made one for Bards(or were you not aware he had?).

I'd like to see one; I was excited about a PFS Rogue after looking at the increased # of guys hittable by sneak attack, but became a bit disillusioned once the numbers were put on paper. And it's harder than ever to get sneak attack with range, so the range rogue isn't much of an option. I'd love to pick up one; but I would need it to be "combat survivable", especially in PFS (though most DND really is 70-75% combat; it's hard to be the "Scout" since it eats up time on a one-on-one adventure for the scout, so you can't do much away from the party).

i'd like to see a guide to rogues too.

Shadow Lodge

I would assume it was quite an attention grabber for you, TM.

i'd love to see this too. my darned monk guide is taking me so long, just the thought of doing a rogue guide makes me tired.

Dark Archive

I would also request a Barbarian guide by Treantmonk. Here here!!!!

No worries you are just writing guides in your sleep and forgetting about them. Nothing to see here, move along.

Im now very disapointed I thought this was a new guide
I hope Treantmonk does one for every Core class

You and the rest of the forum. Worst thread title ever.

Do the one for clerics first.

Don't be coy Mr. Monk...

I don't think that it's nice to ask someone to "do the cleric", or am I just being oldfashioned here?

Ya know, folks, Treantmonk isn't the only person who can do handbooks. ^^U

In order to keep things clear, all handbooks should be titled "Treantmonk's Guide to SUBJECT".

Then this is an excellent chance for some one to prove this by publishing their own.

Rogues:
Stab people when they arn't looking.

Next book!

Bloodwort...

Just like a Rogue... to lead you down a blind alley.

I would, but I wouldn't feel like I was doing it right unless I incorporated a rather expansive section concerning non-core options, and I don't have the time to use them. (That, and people who'd read the rogue guide and liked that section would be all frustrated that TM's guides skip non-core material)

I think to maximize utility to the most number of people it's useful to have guides that focus on builds and options available within the Pathfinder SRD. Many DMs play core-only games and/or don't want to track down OOP 3.5 material and convert it over to pathfinder.

I'm not saying that non-core material shouldn't be included but that they should be contained in an appendix (with references to the original material) so that people can hunt down the feats, PrCs, spells, equipment, etc if they want to incorporate them into their game.

Agreed and understood. Hence why I said "a rather expansive section concerning non-core options" meaning if and when I did it, it would just have a massive 'feat' section, it would have all the core stuff, and then after that it would have non-core stuff, including Non-core multi-classing and prestige classes, feats, non-core skills and skill tricks, published magic (including psionic) items, and, last and most controversially, custom magic items.

But as I said, I don't have the time right now. Regrettably, rogues happen to be one of my favorite classes.

But if he does it then I don't have to do all the research. :)

Yeah, this thread fooled me too.

I've still got my fingers crossed..... Someday Treantmonk might find time to write this guide. (it's only because we love your work so much!) *wink*

Thread title is a dirty, dirty trick!

Sovereign Court

Stupid thread necromancers *grumble*.

I have to say, I've tried designing a good rogue in PF, but it's hard. So many talents that look awesome at first glance but are really hard to actually get working.

I am the necromancer in question, so yeah, I'm sorry. You're right, Rogue talents are kind of mewh (Slow Reaction and Befuddling Strike are the only ones I really like). However, I toyed with the idea of a Half-Orc Rogue wielding a falchion and using a net to decrease his opponents' AC, with the +1/3 bonus on critical hit confirmation rolls favored class bonus, and I think something decent could come out of it.

Sovereign Court

Well I'm sure there are lots of very viable rogue builds possible. I too would like more rogue build guides (some do exist). Especially a review of stuff like Rogue Talents is important to me: which ones work, which are traps, and which ones are weird but interesting.

We need a Treantmonk's Guide to Treantmonks.

NECR-R-R-R-R-ROMANCY MOST FOUL!

Scarab Sages

When are we going to see Treantmonk's guide to guides?

Shadow Lodge

It's a necromancy trap!

Sczarni

Treantmonk's Guide to Necromancers?

I tried to make a Necromancer Oracle once, but the material component on Animate Dead scared me away.

You have an onyxphobia?

I never did see if one was created!?

Is there a suitable guide someone can link?
