You'd best roll me up a new Stealth check then, boss. Hit me with that -2!

Stealth roll: 1d20-2=17 No Joke.

Rogan draws his bow. He whispers to Omen, "Should we ambush them or let them pass?"

"This one sees little sense in killing if killing can be avoided. This one feels the same about confrontation. Let us lie as serpents in the leaves, striking only if prodded to."

Rogan nods. You both peer out from behind the natural formation of mineral and watch as the kobolds pace around for several seconds looking around and then turn and head back down the dark corridor.

Omen cautiously peeks out from his place of hiding. "Hrmmm... this one thinks we might try again now. Before we do, Edgrin, do the scaled ones know what goes on down here? Would those scaled ones be likely to aid us or should we... hrmmm... prepare our claws and fangs?"

Edgrin speaks with Kerrdremak as the others stand by waiting. "He says these ones will fight to the death for Lekmek. Those were miners and he is the foreman. We will have to fight them to make it through the mines."

"Hrmmm... then let us proceed."

Omen begins moving forward once more, trying once again to be quiet and unseen.

Stealth check: 1d20(16)-2=14

Edgrin Stealth: 1d20+6=18; Kobolds Stealth: 1d20+1=19; Rogan Stealth: 1d20+10=27

The children are staying in the room until the coast is clear

The group moves forward and begins heading down the rough passage. The sound of chipping and hammering becomes audible as you close in on the next chamber.

The light from torches dimly appears in the room beyond, and when you reach the edge of the passage, you can see the kobold miners working away on the walls within the torchlight. Walking down the center is a odd looking kobold. His arms and chest are unproportionate to his lower body, appearing much larger and bulkier compared to his spindly legs.

Rogan pulls out his bow and lines up an arrow but does not pull back. He turns to Omen and whispers, "Perhaps now we should strike the leader, this Lekmek. Perhaps if we take him down the rest will surrender."

"Hrmmm... this one is ready."

Rogan Initiative: 1d20+4=17; Edgrin: 1d20+2=20; Kobolds: 1d20+1=9

Edgrin holds back and waits for Rogan to react.

Rogan angles his bow and points the drawn arrow directly at the foreman, Lekmek. He looses.

Attack roll: 1d20+9=22; Damage: 1d8=3

The arrow flies and strikes the kobold in his left shoulder. Lekmek grunts in stunned pain.

I took a move action, the battlemat has been updated accordingly. I can now only hope that I beat that jerk in initiative.

Omenkalas Nariah wrote:

Haha, you did.

Lekmek Initiative: 1d20+mod=14
Kobold miners: 1d20+mod=7

The kobolds move up through the tunnel and prepare themselves for battle by grabbing their spears with both hands and pointing them outwards.

Initiative
Edgrin (20)
Rogan (17)
Omen (15)
Lekmek (14)
Kobolds (9)
Kobold miners (7)

Edgrin steps forward with spear in hands but stops just behind Omen and Kerrdremak, awaiting the time to attack. He removes his right hand from the spear and then begins exercising his fingers as if preparing a spell.

As he steps forward, Rogan quickly draws two arrows simultaneously but only lines up one of them across his bow. He then pulls back and lets loose once again at the leader:

Attack roll: 1d20+9=20; Damage=1d8+1=9

The arrow strikes true, sinking into the right part of Lekmek's chest through his studded armor. Lekmek rears back from the impact and then grips his heavy pick and grunts.

Fiendish Monstrous Centipedes x3

Size/Type: Medium Magical Beast (Extraplanar)
Hit Dice: 1d8+2 (6 hp)
Initiative: +2

Speed: 40 ft. (8 squares), climb 40 ft.
Armor Class: 14 (+2 Dex, +2 natural), touch 12, flat-footed 12
Base Attack/Grapple: +0/-1
Attack: Bite +2 melee (1d6+1 plus poison)

Full Attack: Bite +2 melee (1d6+1 plus poison)
Space/Reach: 5 ft./5 ft.
Special Attacks: Poison, smite good
Special Qualities: Darkvision 60 ft., resistance to cold 5, and fire 5, spell resistance 6, vermin traits

Abilities: Str 13, Dex 15, Con 14, Int 3, Wis 10, Cha 2
Poison: Fort Save DC 10 or 1d3 Dex damage (Initial and Secondary)

As soon as Omen finishes intoning the spell, three enormous centipedes, covered in reddish, jagged scales, seem to crawl and unroll out of the dirt surrounding Lekmek and immediately lunge for the malformed foreman.

Lekmek has yet to act, so he still counts as flat-footed for these attacks.

FMC1: Attack Roll: 13+2+2(flank) = 17 / Damage Roll: 2+1=3 and Poison
FMC2: Attack Roll: 7+2 = 9 / Damage Roll: 6+1=7 and Poison (probably a miss and maxed damage too) =\
FMC3: Attack Roll: 18+2+2(flank) = 22 / Damage Roll: 4+1=5 and Poison

Lets hope he fails a couple of these fort saves or just up and dies...

The centipedes attack, the first one strikes and his him through his armor; the second one is dodged by the kobold, however his dodge lands him square into the fangs of the third which bites into his left arm drawing blood.

Lekmek swings at the one directly in front of him, Attack roll: 1d20+mod=11 however he misses the creature in his frustration. Blood gushes from his arrow wound, arm and side, however the kobold appears ready to fight and steps through two of the centipedes in an attempt to get away from them.

The kobolds charge into the room, one of them running straight at one of the miners and thrusting his spear at him:

Attack: 1d20+1=21; Crit: 1d20+1=10; Regular Damage: 1d6-1=4

The spear makes it's way into the miner's chest causing a gushing of blood as the warrior removes it. The miner collapses.

Kerrdremak focuses his attention on the miners along the north wall. With an arcane word and an intricate wave of his hand, a burst of flame shoots from his wrist.

Burning Hands: 3d4=4

Both of the kobolds caught in the blaze collapse to the ground severely burned.

The miners, recovered from the surprise attack move in to strike with the command of the wounded Lekmek.

One of the miners attacks Kerrdremak and strikes him across the chest with his light pick: 1d20+1=17; Damage: 1d3+mod=2

Another attempts to attack one of the centipedes but misses as it's squirming body moves away from the weapon as it swings down.

The last one attempts to attack one of the warriors, however the hardened soldier deflects the attack with his spear.

Edgrin steps up in front of Rogan and begins casting a spell and then upon finishing the incantation, tosses a small object at the feet of Lekmek who suddenly bursts into awkward laughter and falls to the ground.

Rogan's up

As Rogan begins drawing an arrow he shouts at Edgrin, "How long will your spell last, Edgrin?"

Edgrin replies without turning to face Rogan, "Just a few seconds, enough to keep him out of the fight long enough to take him out."

"Very well" Rogan replies as he looses an arrow directly at Lekmek as struggles on the ground laughing through his pain: Attack roll: 1d20+7+4=28; Damage=1d8+1=6 The arrow flies through the air and strikes the kobold in the throat. The creature grabs at the arrow but cannot do much to stop the flow of blood. Seeing that the creature still stands, Rogan rapidly lines up another arrow and looses it. Attack roll: 1d20+7=19; Damage: 1d8+1=5 The arrow pegs the Lekmek dead center in his chest which causes him to immediately stop moving.

if you're able to roll these attacks for me, Master Abbadusky, I would be greatly appreciative!

Omen will move so that he can shoot a miner that is not yet engaged in melee with a lightning arc. If every surviving miner is engaged in melee, Omen will simply advance and +1 hatchet the one who poked Kerrdremak.

The FMCs will act like big, nasty bugs and swarm the nearest miner. Should he fall, any that have yet to act will move to the next nearest one. Their combat stats are in the spoiler above.

Omen moves up and swings his handaxe at the miner in front of Kerrdremak:

Attack: 1d20+5=14; Damage: 1d6+2=6

The kobold attempts to parry the attack, however he is unsuccessful as the axe slices into the kobolds chest and the creature immediately collapses.

The centipedes surround the other miner on the north end of the chamber and attack:

FMC 1 Attack: 1d20+2=20; Damage: 1d6+1=6

The first creature hits the kobold and drops him to his knees where he slumps over top of his weapon.

Two of the warriors attack the last miner with their spears. They exchange harsh words in draconic with the miner as they fight to the death.

Kobold Warrior 1 Attack: 1d20+1=19; Damage: 1d6-1=2

The first spear thrust is enough to stop the creature in it's tracks as the other follows up with a killing blow:

Kobold Warrior 2 Attack: 1d20+1=13; Damage: 1d6-1=3

The last miner is struck down by the second warriors spear attack.

We will set ourselves to searching the bodies of the slain miners and their half-ape foreman.

You find a total of eight light picks, six of which are on the bodies of the kobold miners. You also find a heavy pick that appears to be exceptionally made which was wielded by the foreman along with a small suit of studded leather armor and metal mining helmet.

Dang. I can't wear the blasted forbidden metal helmet. I already have a hatchet, short spear and cudgel... any more weapons and it'd just be comical. Though I do very much prefer the x4 crit multiplier of heavy picks. Always been a fan of the rare but devastating x4 crit explosion...

Male Elf Ranger 3 / Monk 3 (Gestalt)

I have no need of any of it, either. I say divvy it up amongst the small chaps.

How does Noctem feel about stylish metal headwear? We could always sovreign glue that peice to his cranium...

Noctem sniffs the helmet. Growls. And walks away.

We'll ask the kobolds (through Edgrin) what they would wish to do with the so-called spoils and then continue on our way...

After Edgrin speaks with the kobolds, one of the warrior picks up the heavy pick, but the rest ignore the light picks scattered on the cavernous floor.

There appear to be two exits to this room, however the south-western passage has been blocked with piles of massive rocks and scattered rubble. The only other way out other than heading back to the previous room and crawling up through the crevasse is another tunnel which leaves the room to the right and begins curving to the north.

"Hrmmm... which way to these ones," Omen gestures to their kobold allies as he speaks to Edgrin, "indicate we should go?"

Edgrin replies, "They say if we keep heading north through the next two rooms, we will reach Merlokrep's chamber. The next room is where they keep the Slurks. I've seen them... massive frog-like creatures with fangs they use for mounts. After that is the den where most of the kobolds sleep. There might be a large battle there but the room is unavoidable. We could try navigating around it to try and sneak through, but we would still need to evade them on the way out."

Go ahead and roll all of your Knowledge checks and I'll let you know if you find out. It's a new creature.

Knowledge (Arcana): 1d20+0=14

Slurk's are big frogs (medium-sized) who fire slime from their backs due to thick nodules which spray the material out on their foes. It hardens to a chitinous crust and causes the creature to slow in their movements.

And Knowledge (Arcana) = magical beast; which means Hide from Animals will not work; which means we have a slimy fire fight ahead; which means I should have saved my Summon Monster II fiendish monstrous centipede horde for this fight instead =\

Just checking to see if either of you still check up on this.

No idea. I was hoping we had enough adventure left at this point to mop it all up in person next sunday. or do you think we need to advance a little bit further?

I'm pretty sure we could mop it all up next Sunday but we might have quite a bit of time left over. There are like 3 encounters left, including the final one and then the resolution.

Would you be ready to go next Sunday or are you just ready for primer/introduction? We could try and finish over Skype with just you and I if Steve is OK with that, or we could just wait until Sunday.

male humanlike humanoid Barbarian 1/Cloistered Cleric 5/Technomancer 5

Let's wait until Sunday and I'll try and get everything together so we can jam on into character creation/primer and perhaps the campaign's inciting incident once MerloMcJerknut is toast.
