As an aside, folks, I am not trying to have a series of exciting recon encounters out in the wilderness; in mretagame terms I am trying to justify a "gather information" roll or maybe an active "search" roll.
I'm afraid that hauling everybody out into the wilderness probably will generate some encounters or such.

~innocent wistle~ I would NEVER do something like that. But if all you want is a few search rolls, then that would work!
Well, if we manage to stumble upon something actually happening, we'd stick around and pay attention. And encounters come as encounters come. My point is: I'm not trying to split the party for a significant period of time.
(If, on the other hand, we all disappear, look for us on, oh, the ninth level of the dungeon....)

Actually you will be on the 13 th level of the dungeon. ~rereads what I just wrote~ scratch that! I did not say anything.
~grins~ The more I think on it, the more that I agree that a few seach rolls might just do the trick.
~shrugs~ Well, the last thing I want is for someone to have a problem due to the software I am using.

I have Castle Writerock on my shelves. Would it help the flow of the campaign if I switched to a kind of "co-DM" seat to help keep things moving?

Is it good or just a really big book?
Both.
I think though that if you run Ptolus that you have so much material there that you could easily just use that book.It's a really nice looking book, it's layoutit fun to navigate through. There are little index notes everywhere that lead you to different parts of the book. (Almost like a web page.) I have yet to read the whole thing. (Spent a few hours jumping around through the book.)

Sharoth, I'll be out of ton during the week of March 16th - 20th (that's Gulf Wars) but if you want help running the campaign, I'd be willing to break open my copy and scoot my chair over to the other side of the DM screen.
