Well, I will be getting DCC # 51 - Castle Whiterock. Once it arrives here, I was thinking about doing a PBP using it. 4 to 6 people. Either 3.5 core or PF Beta (Print edition). I admit that I have never run a PBP, but I am willing to give it a shot. Anyone interested? Any comments on Pitfalls or things to improve a PBP?

I'd be interested. I'd prefer D&D 3.5 rules.
The tricks to play-by-post, I think, are
- keep things moving (fast forward, when possible, from one PC decision to the next; rolling initiative isn't a party decision, for example),
- provide visuals and maps (through photo-sharing or personal websites),
- stay organized and focussed on fun.

~grins~ Sounds good to me. I was waiting until the full version of the PF ruleset came out before looking too deep into it. If we do do 3.5, I will be doing a 32 point buy. Any issues with that?

~gah~ Setting up my own web site! ~grimaces~ Well, I am needing to join the 21st cetury sometime or another! Any suggestions?
What would you like to know? (prolly start a new thread, you'll get lots of responses I'm sure...)
Sharoth |
~grins~ Well, I am just wondering if that would be needed, fray. However, you are right about starting a new thread about that.
Ok. We have 3 people so far...

I will go as high as 6 people.
1st level, 32 point buy, 3.5 core plus the psionics books and the 3 Complete books that I have. max gold and HPs at 1st lvl. I will think on how to get you all together. Extra XPs for a good storyline. I will be setting this in Golarian. Let me go through the books tonight to see where I want to set this monster.
P.S. - I also have all the Eberron books as well, but ask before using them.
P.P.S. - I equate int as brain power and wis as common sense. My NPCs and monsters will thus be teated as intellegent and wise as their scores show. Plus they will have read "If I were an Evil Overlord!" ~WEG~

Oh, i love psionics. But i actually think i'll pass it up this time. I'll play Human Diviner (specialist wizard). Any objections/questions/concerns, anyone?
None, but I have had a thought on specialist. They should only give up one school, not two. Just my personal opinion. Also, any familiar advances no matter what class you are. It makes them a tad more valuable, IMHO.

Which point buy are you using? The DMG one, or the PFS/PFRPG one?

DMG one since we will be playing 3.5 rules.
Edit - Thanks for helping fray out Jason!

NP!
Now, i know different DMs handle some things differently, i was just wondering how you handle 1st level characters purchase of clothing. Some give it away, some let the PCs buy it. Which do you do?

Jason, fray,
I'd be interested in putting together a tightly-knit team of PCs. It's not anything I've done before, but if you folks are willing, we could start out as people who were chosen and trained for some kind of mission.
I'm describing my character as a "rogue," but I'd be amenable to Rogue-like classes (Sharoth doesn't own the Complete Adventurer with the spell-thief, but there's also the psionic Lurk, or the Bard.) Or multi-class.
Sharoth, if you're looking to set this campaign in Golarion, do you have access to the Campaign Setting? If so, are the feats from there available?
Sharoth |
Ok. I decided to bite the bullet. Books that can be used and I own or have ordered.
Complete Warrior
Complete Divine
Complete Arcane
Complete Adventurer *
Complete Psion
Complete Mage
Complete Scoundrel *
Unearthed Arcana
The Dragon Mag Compendium (has the Urban Druid and others)
I will try to pick up the complete Champion soon.
Ask about any other books that you want to use, maybe Ic an borrow them from a friend.
* = On order and will be here within the next week or so. If you want to use them, then go ahead and do so.
Sharoth |
Yes, I have ALL the Pathfinder books to this date and yes you can use them. ~sighs and yelps as my wallet bites me~
As for clothing, be resonable, but I have no quams if you don't try to break the bank or do something outrageous. I would say 1 good set, 2 to 3 works clothes, some sleep stuff, ect.
As for feats, let me get ahold of my library and go through them. I am thinking of alowing a trait or two as a freebie, if you can make it fit. Plus add 2 extra skill pts to be used on craft, profession, or something related to your background. I am at work, but come midnight est, I will head home and do some more research.

Good idea! Im typing up my human diviner now.

Thanks; I would, but I'm running one and gaming in two, so my plate's full.
Was you wanting to jump in on mine?
~grins~ Well, I am starting school next month, plus working and doing this. Give me a month or so to get things settled down and I will get back to you on it. Thanks my friend for keeping that offer open.

I'm up for that.
OOO! Complete Scoundrel for me! I want to try some tricks out.
What are your feeling on prestige classes? Do you have to stay in them all the way?
Ok, I'll be using a skill trick or two eventually... and I'll check out some psionics stuff.
I probably won't be able to make a character until after the weekend, much presents to wrap and put together and family stuff.
fray |
~grimaces~ Nope. I missed it by a month. I will be trying to get it around tax time. ~sighs~ I was so busy getting all the non-WotC stuff that I almost missed otu on the WotC stuff that I wanted.
Was there a sale somewhere for the WotC stuff?

Nope, but everyone is snapping them up.
Jason, Use the Spell compendium. I will alow it.
Also, I forgot about owning these two books.
Tome of Magic and Magic of Incarnum.

I have no problem with prestige classes, but I do have veto power over them. I would prefer to avoid the broken ones, but I am willing to go with what you all want. Just remember that if you all can do it, so can the villains! ~WEG~
As for giving me the weekend, I bless you and give you an extra 50 xp. ~grins~

I'm making an Isgeri fighter, in case anyone was curious. I saw "rogue," "wizard" and "psionic" and since I wasn't sure about the "psionic" I thought a fighter might come in handy. If anyone has suggestions about a PrC or anything, feel free to suggest, or if Isger doesn't fit with the group, I can change to a different Golarion location :D
Chris Mortika RPG Superstar 2010 Top 16 |
Hi, Zeugma. Great to have you. I don't think we have any idea where we are in Golarion, so Isger sounds as good as anywhere else.
All right, folks, this is what I've got so far.
- For the time being, I'm looking at the Spell Thief from Complete Adventurer. I've never played one before (or played in a party with one before) and I'd like to see how they work.
- In a party with a Wizard, a Spell Thief can serve as a scout, with a little extra oomph of magic here and there. This is a Dungeon Delving campaign, so I want to make sure the party has a good trap spotter/disabler.
- With a 32-point buy, I'm looking at Strength 10, Dexterity 16, Constitution 14, Intelligence 14, Wisdom 10, Charisma 14.
- For skills, I'm thinking he needs to keep Search, Open Lock, Disable Device and Appraise at high levels. Probably Tumble, too. He has a pretty good Charisma, so he could take skills like Bluff and Gather Information. Or would Hide and Move Silently be better? Or Use Magic Device?
- Suggestions for Feats?
- Suggestions for races? If he takes Hide and Move Silently, it would be great to have Darkvision, but the dwarven penalty to Charisma and the Half-Orc penalty to, well, most things, don't mesh well with an underground trapsmith.
