Bump, you know why.

Sounds a lot like my fiancee's "You're 38 and almost have a PhD and you mean to tell me you get that excited about making up a story while moving little plastic toys around on the table?" look. (Yes, dear, but now we get to do it while drinking beer. Plus, the stories are better.)

Still Very Excited

Sovereign Court

I'm still excited as well. I've played two sessions with the Pathfinder rules, and my only complaint is that I don't get to play more often. We're playing Curse of the Crimson Throne, and our DM is just giving opponenets more hp to compensate for the increased power of Pathfinder PCs. So far it's working well.

I'm excited like a gnoll in heat.

I am more excited about the future of the system. I think Paizo is doing a good job, and I look forward to seeing how the 3.5 vs 4.0 vs video vs other rpg plays out.

that said, I buy nearly everything made for the Pathfinder system. I really like the story/background, and as long as it stays good, focusing on info rather than new rules, classes, I will keep buying.

You know what? I've been without a game crew for a few months now, and have no prospect of finding a new one in the foreseeable future. So I don't even get a chance to play PFRPG... But I'm still excited about it!

I, meanwhile, am saddened to know that the impending completion of the Pathfinder core rules will mean no further design focus forums.

I may be vewy wittuw, but my excitement is BIG.

And again, bump.

i agree

but every good thing has to end...
unless we add things!

any thoughts in adding the Monte Cook's World of Darkness D20 magic system? :D i think it uses lots of less pages than 3.5 vancian system and we will be able to add more interesting things like traits!

I'm just getting excited. I just barely survived playing 4E for four months. I retired my core books 4E when I discovered Wizards pulled out the Ride skill. I could deal with marking and bloodied and multiple -2 conditions and collectible cards packaged with the new minis. But no Ride skill? The straw that broke the camel's back.

My players will likely buy Pathfinder too in August, which says a lot in this economy. So kudos to Paizo and all the playtesters out there.

It sounds like I'm making it up, but after a careful study of the rules it appears that mounts only provide a bonus ability now in 4E. Each monster provides an extra ability. Riding is apparently automatic except for a falling flying mount that can use an Athletics check to pull out.

There is also no skill to pilot all the vehicles introduced in the magic and item book either. I used Nature for ride since handle animal was under it but that was not satisfying.

I played 4E for four months without realizing the skill was missing because no PC could yet afford a mount. When they bought riding horses I thought I'd have a little fun with Riding checks to control the non-war riding horses in combat.

And I sat in stunned silence when I realized the skill was missing. I'd never noticed it before.

It seemed really odd because I'd seen it Ride used as a skill challenge in Star Wars Saga to great effect (I swiped it for McWoD). To just see the skill pulled seemed, in my opinion, to indicate a real lack of playtesting.

So I have higher hopes for Pathfinder. Since the playtesting isn't completely being done in secret.

I'm still excited about Pathfinder.

That is a fine example of the problem I have with 4e. They have removed all of the skills & rules that helped run allot of non-combat encounters. Some classes, as previously written, weren't JUST about combat. Now, in 4e, all classes are combat monkeys with just a different style of combat. Good for s computer game or wargame. Lousy for a ROLEPLAYING game.

Liberty's Edge

i agree its a sad situation
well lets move along the 4E situation and still be exited that PFRPG still gives us RP solutions and not just combat ones... and that they will improve the ones that appear like only offering combat ones

EM,

I would suggest trying out a virtual tabletop situation. It was caused quite a renaissance in my gaming. One main thing is that it allows me to gather a group without the constraints of geography.

Best.

I am still firmly on board, and happy enough with the rules changes, though really my excitement is less about rules and more about the fact that Paizo is continuing to support the game I like with awesome adventure materials, rather than going 4e.

Dark Archive

I can't wait to play their first PFRPG AP that's due Aug '09. Council of Thieves looks to be a lot of fun! :)

Still excited here! I like how pathfinder is taking the best of 3.x and 4e, melting them down, and creating a masterpiece. It takes some of the clunkiness out of 3x, but didn't strip it of it's soul like 4e did. 4e isn't even the same game IMO. After the holidays I'm going to be getting some old buddies together for some on-line gaming (probably via klooge) and will push Pathfinder.

I huwud that Paizo Cwaus comes in August...

Merry Smurfin Christmas and a Happy New RPG Book!

Christmas bump, and merry christmas!

Wayfinders

My only complaint with the game was really from the skill groups, not the mechanical system for skills. I would have combined skills they didnt and not combined some of the ones they did. Of course I still have the option of doing the way I want it in my own games.

IM STILL EXCITED

Way back when the whole 4e thing started - Paizo did not know which way they were going to go and had not seen the GSL I stated several times that I planned to follow Paizo in the way it went. For me this was driven by my experience with Rise of the Runelords. I love their adventures so much that I wanted to play the version of the game that they are using to develop the Adventure Paths.

As our resident Silver Dragon said - I will let my actions speak for me.

I ordered 8 copies of the bETA rules for me and my players. I ordered my copy of the final rules as soon as it was available for pre-order. I have ordered the Monster book and I plan to buy more copies of the final rules for my group. I am here to stay.

I have run most of Rise of the Runelords and will finish in another 2 to 4 sessions depending on the players. I have begun a Curse of the Crimson Throne campaign and last weekend a Second Darkness campaign. The only drawback for me is I do not have enough time to keep up with the paths being published.

Exicted and loving it...

I am excited. Is it August yet?

You know, the only bad thing about pathfinder, is it gives everyone a reason to *not* play hackmaster. :/

I am happy that someone has taken upon themselves to try to maintain the style and fun of playing D&D. While I am a relative newby to D&D (having begun playing with 3.0) I am excited that I don't have to reduce my library to begin a new one (4th). I share some material with some friends who are guests of the State of Texas, and having a continuation of the sets I have sent them is a plus for me.

I made several entries before the actual playtest schedule came out. I just hope some of my comments were helpful.

Overall I would claim to be excited to see what the final product looks like even though I will buy it regardless. See the tag above.

Good work and good luck to all at Paizo. May you all have long and happy lives.

I share many of this man's sentiments. I also am a relative newbie, only been playing for about the past 3 years (though often). I have found Pathfinder to be superior in many ways to 3.5, and even though people moan and complain on the testing boards a lot, I think most of them would agree that the Pathfinder rules only improve on 3.5, not detract from it in any way. Sure, they might not be entirely pleased with how it works specifically, but it's sure better than 3.5.

Not that I'm dissing 3.5, either. It's a great system with a few major flaws, and Pathfinder aims to fix that. They're already well on their way to solving many of the problems that 3.5 presented, and I'm happy to say that I'm still friggin' excited about the final release.

Now we just need to see them do something about high-level play, heh.

tl;dr: EXCIIITEEEDDDD

I also wish all of the staff at Paizo long and happy lives. Well-put, silverhair.

EDIT:

This pretty much sums it up.

Erik Mona wrote:
I think that is completely reasonable. There is no way we're going to be able to please everyone with every choice we make, and while I hope every gamer in the world buys the Core Rulebook, I'm aware that that's an unreasonable expectation.

When I am made God Emperor, each citizen will be given a puppy. If they do not purchase your Core Rulebook, their puppies will be slain.

If you do not write me into your products as a mysterious NPC who shows up at the end of the modules to solve them for the PCs, your puppy will be slain.

Thus does the God Emperor giveth and taketh away.

-----

I just downloaded the Beta ruleset two weeks ago, so yeah, I'm still excited. In fact, I'm just now excited at all. :)

Teh internetz are great for facilitating communication, but like a God Emperor they give with one hand and take with another. Heard of "Mall Fatigue"? I sometimes get "Topic Fatigue" as well, and whenever I start suffering a bit of burnout the first fix is to stop reading people's opinions about it on the internet (all sports topics, I'm looking at you).

In the end, this game is really about the group I play with, and for what it's worth I'm over the moon that Paizo has picked up the 3x mantle and is giving my group an alternative from that other significantly less fun game with an ampersand in the middle of its name.

Here it is, 2009. And you guessed it...

I'm still esctatic! While I have concerns (stated elsewhere) that the seemingly endless cries for more power will negatively impact the final produt, I have great faith in Paizo to guard against that.

I'm sure I won't agree with 100% of the changes but as a whole, I anxiously await the Pathfinder RPG.

Direct the winds to blow and dust off this thread.

'Yeah way still excited. We are still running our little FR campaign with the PF beta rules about 6 hrs a week or so. Come on.....August!

The two things that would make me more excited:

1. A PF rules subscription with free PDF.
2. Some way to reduce the postage to Oz (it is more than the book itself).

While I am obviously professionally biased, now that I am playing in a regular Pathfinder RPG campaign my excitement has shot through the roof.

I love that it is still fundamentally the same game that I have always loved (not just 3e, but 2e and 1e too), but _better_. I love that if there's something that doesn't sit right with me, via the playtest I have a chance to at least state my case to the designers.

I am having more fun with the game than I have since the end of Monte Cook's Ptolus campaign.

I was over at my friend Kyle Hunter's place last night, and I was talking about our campaign. I realized that I was gushing with excitement in a somewhat embarrassing fashion, but I couldn't stop explaining how much _better_ it is than 3.5, which is a system I really loved and knew really well.

Very early, once I got a sense of the direction 4e was taking, I knew it wasn't for me. So, simply as a gamer, it's never been a question of whether the PFRPG is "better" than 4e. It's not a relevant question for me, because 4e does not appeal to me at all.

Instead, the question has been "is this a worthy successor to 3.5? Is it a better system?

I think the answer to both questions is yes, and my certainty increases by the day.

As does my excitement.

I AM STILL EXCITED!

Sovereign Court

Way to go Erik!

4E is not for me either, and I am happy you stepped up to steer the ship that will provide us, non-Pokemon lovers, with a decent, now better than D&D RPG system to play with!

Keep carrying that torch!! the crowd of runners behind you is growing each day!!!

I wish I had a PF group now! We're still playing 3.5 at the moment, but we've playtested off an on since the Goblins forced a decision months ago. I have friends who won't play Pathfinder or 4e, I have friends who only play 4e now, but I'm part of the crowd that is getting psyched about Pathfinder.

If you, James, Jason, and any other Paizillians came to game with us, I'd hand you all a +2 circumstance bonus for awesome!

I'm still excited!

I think this would be an appropriate time to praise Paizo for the fine job they've been doing.

I sort of "left" when my Dragon and Dungeon subscription abrubtly ended. But, I'm back now. I got a taste of Rise of the Runelords, came back for the Campaign Setting, and am now kicking myself I didn't subscribe sooner (Oh well, that's what back-issues are for).

The quality of the products is amazing, and they really care about what we think! IMHO, the PF RPG is a much better product for having evolved through this open play-test. I could "fix" my 3.5 game with more house rules, but 90% of what I would do is going to be in the PF rulebook. I'm pretty stoked about that!

Thanks, Paizo!

This is by far the best version of the classic sword and sorcery game I've ever played. If I could run three hours a weekday, I would.

As of the moment, I'm restricted to ten games a month. But what a ten!

Liberty's Edge

Okay... having FINALLY found this thread, I can finally tell you how excited I am. Like others have said, I have not been this excited about roleplaying since Arcana Unearthed/Evolved, though I did dip into my pockets a little for Iron Heroes. Most of what I have been personally working with however is a homebrew system for a completely different system loosely based on the d20 system... lol. For those old enough to remember the Dark Tower Electronic Game, that game fascinated me and became the inspiration for the Fallen Empire d20 game I ran at home. I was so disenfranchised with D&D 3.5 that I completely scrapped all the races and classes and started over again, developing stuff that had a genuine roleplaying/emotional/fantastic feel to me. Something that seemed truly archaic. (Arcana Evolved dips into the archaic well quite a bit, to my delight.)

I am so excited about the Pathfinder RPG right now that I have converted every single character sheet I could find for my 3.5 characters to the Beta rules. I was amazed as the magic using classes came to life. They were more than spell and magic item machines. If you want to call that high magic, go ahead. It was just amazing to watch Aramil Amalkir, my 4/4 Wizard/Fighter evolve from a magic item machine with a sword and bow to something far more interesting. It was the most exciting thing to happen to Aramil since being resurrected by an alienist sorcerer with a wish spell, and coming back from the dead... changed.

So I'll experiment with the spells a little more. If nothing else, I can always just bring back the spells from Arcana Evolved (the original ones with the archaic feeling). Spells are power, they just don't have to be blatant.

I was a little concerned when my nonspecialist wizards didn't have school powers when the class level list said they would, but I just made up stuff there that seemed appropriate, doing my best to stick to the feeling of the rules so far.

Universal School Powers:

Home Rule:
2nd level - Recall Spell: Lose a prepared wizard spell of the same or higher level to immediately re-prepare a spell you just cast.

Home Rule:
4th level - Magical Knowledge: Lose a prepared wizard spell to add its level as a bonus to (choose one) knowledge, spellcraft, craft, or profession checks for 10 minutes per spell level.

At this point, I am w-a-y beyond "still".

Yeah, baby!
