Quick and Spark |
Well, I can still run Waren for the remainder of the encounter. He's not going to turn tail and run just because his player did.
As for Quick, there's really no sign to her yet that she's in danger. Brock has taken a little damage (which Quick can heal in a moment), but we've otherwise taken two of the guards down quite swiftly. I'm sure Kanto will be a challenge, but that's the best part.
Really, I think people need to focus a bit more on the game. Hessiah barely seems present, and Brock is catching up a little too late (specifically, Brock could not have charged last round, because you were already engaged in combat. You do get a +2 for flanking with Spark, however, so your roll is the same. You don't take a penalty to AC).
It doesn't make any sense to withdraw quite yet. If we do, we'd be murderers and not liberators.
Black Tom, perhaps you are not enjoying the game? Sweeping us off to the wilderness for no reason is a little heavy-handed for me, sorry.

I think the game is fine, but you are spot on when it comes to commitment. I think there is a fun and deadly battle to be had, but you'll need all five of you. You can run Waren through the encounter if you like, but I'd need Hessiah and Brock to get with it a bit more.
I just thought that if you lose two characters, you'd really have no chance of beating Kanto and would be forced to retreat. That's a good enough reason for me.
So if xdahnx takes on Waren for the encounter and the rest of you get some posts up we'll just get on with it.

That does makes sense, Tom. Quick of course would run to the Wilderness and Beyond if Kanto does give them a royal beating, but only then. I'm trying to organize the combat a bit more, with the map, and the new Initiative order I posted. Hopefully it will make things more clear.

Okay so I'm Kinda new at this but I thought I could charge, the round before I dropped someone then after that I had to spend a whole round running to get to the other guy, so why couldn't I have just made that a charge? I guess not, but I dont understand.
I also am down with staying at the Temple but as far as posting goes I cant post as much as Quick and Juliare I'm a college student with a full time job and I'm on a rugby team not to mention I have a girl friend, and we all know how much time those take... lol so I can only post one to two times a day, if thats not enough and you three would like to move faster then I can leave? anyway I guess I'll try to be more observant with the other posts before mine.

One or two times a day is amply enough!
Personally , I can wait one day or two waiting for a post from someone's turn.
I think your main problem is that you want to post so as not delaying the game but it can cause confusion
The problem (to me at least) is more your posting, Radavel. I'll be harsh there but your last post did irk me . After waiting three rounds for you to act, seeing a post saying 'I'll follow and do the best I can ' is not helpful. This is indeed surprising because looking at your other characters , you are a good player. I understand if you have troubles posting (Real life does intrude ) but please let us know the situation .
Otherwise, while my character would prefer not to be there, it's too late to change minds . Let's win through or perish !

Hey BT,
Are you looking for another player for this campaign?
As Ned Flanders would say: Abso-diddly-lutely. You're more than welcome to jump in if you can spare the time. We'll just try to finish the temple business and then I think Waren (and Po) will drift off.
Just post a character and we'll see how he or she will fit in the story.

Here he is. I've got kinda a cool idea for a background as well, if you think he'll do.
I've got a couple of questions, though, about the Wilderlands. He will be a City Dwarf and I have already figured in the bonuses. I was wondering, would you allow me to take rogue as my chosen class given the information I have regarding the City Dwarf?

He'll do for sure, and rogue makes sense as favored class for a City Dwarf.

Excellent
Black Tom
My idea for background is that he came to town a few years ago to open up a jewelry store as he had amassed a fair amount of wealth from his family. Due to some local corporate espionage from the established jeweller in town, he lost his shirt in the process. Shortly afterwards, there was a burglary at his competition's storefront and he was deemed the culprit (only Thrakhir knows if this is true). There was no proof and he was never formally charged, but his only hope to maintain his store was lost when word was spread that he was a no good thief. His suspected impropriety is fairly common knowledge, and it hasn't helped that the town guard keep an eye on him when he is about. Unless you have a better idea, as of late he has been sleeping on the street and spending the last of his fortune getting drunk (quite an investment for a dwarf) complaining to anyone who will listen about the evils of the establishment.
I'll work the background up a little more if we're cool here.
I also reduced the price very slightly - took off a gold piece or two - on alchemical items considering his skills. If that's a problem let me know.
I also have an idea for an introduction, I thought it would be funny if when they return from the temple it's possible they come across a drunken dwarf trying to fend off some attackers. Of course, that is up to you, but it's an idea.

Kanto channels negative energy : 5d6 minimum ; 17 damage average; will save DC for half (9) ....
Ok this would mean she kills also her sidekicks but still ...
A 5th level cleric has 3d6 channeling - that's 10 damage, Will save for 5. Painful, but not fatal, at least not just once.

Quite true.
By the way, Shisumo, if you're still interested, the battle is winding to an end and we seem to be an arcanist short. So if you like, you could start working on a character and I'll try to get you and WorsT in as soon as possible.

Background, not so much. Personality, a fair amount. He draws pretty heavily from the personality traits of his draconic forebear, but without the cruelty. He is avaricious and short-tempered, while simultaneously having little patience with bullying or the abuse of power - he tends to look down on those "weaker" than he, but to violently object when others of strength take advantage.
I see him as something of a loner and a street rat, with his knowledge of magic won from experience rather than training.
Kirwen Wyrmsheart |
More background:
Just after he turned 17, Kirwen's mother died, leaving him to take care of the family for real. He too took menial jobs, mostly involving heavy lifting; at times, though, he also worked as a bouncer, for there was something about his presence that made people respect him, though he was never a handsome man. (To enhance the effect, and keep him cool during hot summer work outdoors, Kirwen started shaving his head, while continuing to grow his beard.) It was on one of the bouncer jobs that his life changed.
He was breaking up a fight, trying to use his size to overawe the combatants, when one pulled a knife and made a stab at him. Despite what most people think, bar brawls rarely get lethal, and Kirwen reacted instinctively, raising his hand to block the other man's strike. Red, scaled claws abruptly replaced his hands, and he slashed deeply into the man's stomach and dropping him to the floor. He stared in shock, then - guided by an intuition he could not explain - he turned to the other fighter and said, "Run." The man did so, fleeing as though all the demons of the Abyss were on his heels. He looked down, and his hands were normal again, but still covered in the knife-wielder's blood.
Since then, Kirwen has worked on his own, trying to master the abilities he has come to realize he possesses. His youngest sibling - his little brother Sasha - is 15, and his sisters have both reached their majorities, so he is no longer as tied to them as he once was. Instead, he thinks about his abilities, his magic, and wonders if, at long long last, the days of slums and breadcrumbs are over. Magic is power, and power is something he understands. It was what those folks in the big houses his mother worked for had, and what he has never had before. Power brings money, and comfort. But not even magic can make a job moving barrels or tossing drunks into the gravy train. For that, he has to think bigger. Much, much bigger.
Description
Kirwen is a large man, over 6'5" and 270, as solidly built as most half-orcs. Nothing about him suggests that he is a magic user, save perhaps for his lack of armor. At 31, he looks much older than that, thanks to hard living and his shocking baldness, but a full, thick beard frames his jaw. Most of the time his hands look ordinary, if large - in combat, though, thick red scales appear on them, and inch-long talons extend from his fingertips. Where once his eyes were a dark green, in the years since he first realized his sorcerous ability, they have lightened to a hazel so yellow it looks, at times, like gold.
Kirwen got his name not from his father, who his does not know, nor from his abilities, which are not especially common knowledge at this point. Instead, it stems from his habit of wearing as much of his wealth on him at any given time, particularly in the form of chains or rings, made of precious metals, that touch his skin. Friends call it his "hoard," and since the incident at the bar, Kirwen's taken to the name with pride.
Yes, the inversions of some of Sandros' background elements are intentional... ;)

Also, this Trickery domain power is damn tough!
It is damn tough! I have to admit, I have generally been unimpressed with it in my games, but Tom's using it to full (and nasty!) advantage, and my level of respect is increasing rapidly!

Shisumo and WorsT:
Kirwen has been working for the Quinchinos a long time and knows more about them than would have been good for an outsider to know. The Quinchino family tree is notably hazy beyond patriarch Philippi Quinchino (now aged 105 and clinging to life), who somehow arrived in Warwik with a lot of money. Nowadays his son Fernando, an immensely fat man who wears heavy gold chains and has his eyebrows tweezed twice a week, runs the business. He often says that he prefers to be feared than loved.
The Quinchinos have contacts with some of the gangs in the slums and runs a couple of brothels, but a large part of their income is from the luxury hotel Heaven's Gate, which is entirely legit (as far as you know). One of both of you might even have worked or be working there as a bodyguard.
Depending on how the aftermath of the temple battle works out, I'll see how I can get you into the action as soon as possible.
Shisumo |
Tom and WorsT:
As for working with Thrakhir, that would be fine too - Kirwen will work with pretty much anyone he gets told to - but I would imagine there would have been a discussion along these lines at some point:
"You touch any of my jewelry, dwarf, and I'll stuff your beard up your arse. Got it?"
And that likely would have been that, as far as Kirwen was concerned.
Thrakhir Flyingaxe |
Tom and WorsT:
** spoiler omitted **
Kirwen
"I have no use for such baubles, lad. I once had a gem the size of my fist, blue and green in color." He says shaking a clenched fist for emphasis. "Now, if it wasn't for the slithering snakes in this town, I'd still have it," he says in a grumble.

Shisumo and WorsT:
Excellent! I'll not waste any time getting you into the action. Let's just say that your own investigations haven't led anywhere in particular, but that there seems to have been a motley band around asking a lot of questions and that you don't mind having other people doing the legwork as long as the job gets done in the end.
It's a big city, though, and you've almost lost track of them when your attention is captured by a dark-skinned man who comes elatedly prancing and shadow-boxing down the street where you prudently stand hidden in the shadows as you contemplate your next move. Even stranger, he seems to be talking to a large rat who mimics his movements about some great battle at the Temple of the Moon. This certainly bears investigating.
Just let the others catch their breath and I'll introduce you. Hope this works for you.
