Is that even legal?
Even if it isn't, it could spawn a whole new industry.
I don't know, it would take forever to type all that out one handed.
Man, everyone wants to be a fighter or some other crazy stuff hittin' specialist. Weird.
Just for that, my paladin is going to refuse to resort to physical harm. :P

James my man, havent been online much over the past week, and just saw your thread. I may be way too late, but if you've still got a slot open I'd love to be in.
I played in a fairly long running 2E planescape game which I have fond memories of ... but it kinda died when our DM started having kids and our group went 3E. I've been toying with the idea of running a 3E planescapesque game for a while ... but too many campaigns, not enough time...
Anyway, if you'll have me I'm in - as long as you're cool with me not having regular internet access for the next few days (I'll be back online full time on the 7th of Jan).

I would love to play a Modron if possible. I've always had a soft spot fer the lil' fellers. I know there was an update on them in Dragon, does anyone remember the issue? Since I am the clueless berk in this bunch of trig coves I will be happy to fill a need since we seem to have a lot of tankage going.

Dragon 354, the April issue. I like the exiled modron race that's in there.
Radavel, I'm fine with the druidic avenger.
Hmm. A ranger that dual wields scimitars and rebels against his own evil nature. Hmmm.

Okay, thus far interested parties:
Not in a pbp
-Patrick CurtinIn a pbp
-Heathansson
-mwbeeler
-Radavel
-Arctaris
-Sect?
-Twiceborn (mentioned in the 'Dungeons and Dragons' section Planescape thread)
Also added:
In a pbp-Kruelaid
-Mothman
Maybe/maybe not in a pbp
-Yeuxandi (via Facebook)
Folks that aren't in pbp games already will have preference, since I think that's only fair. Beyond that, we'll have to figure it out.

Fair enough.
Seriously, I might like to play a tiefling of some kind, maybe an arcanist of some kind. I just don't know...Arctaris |
Hey, James;
What all books (i.e. Planescape materiel) are you rolling with?
Yeah, what books in general are kosher? Do you have access to the Tome of Magic?
If psionics were allowed, would it be possible for me to play a Thr-kreen soulknife going for pyrokineticist? I think that they have a level adjustment.James Keegan |
I'm not completely sure about books yet. For my reference, I'm looking at the Planescape boxed set, the Planewalker Handbook (which is a really good resource for players and DMs from what I've seen) and then a few adventures and other 2nd edition books like the Blood War supplement.
I strongly prefer the races that I've mentioned (all PHB, githzerai, bariaur, tieflings, aasimar and modron, maybe even drow or githyanki if the backstory is good). I like the githzerai and bariaur from planewalker but I'm also waiting for the 3.5 Planar Handbook for the "official" bariaur write-up. I don't want to use psionics and I don't own the Tome of Magic. I want to run kind of lean on additional rulesets, just for ease of use. The variants on the SRD are allowed (I particularly like the shadow-themed illusionist, and the planar ranger; simple changes without rewriting the whole class).
I'll consider other options (like the Complete {insert archetype} line or different races) and some swapping (for example, Githzerai from planewalker have a benefit of being able to choose psionic feats even if they aren't psionic--I would want to replace that with some other benefit) on a case-by-case basis; usually if they're justified with a story idea I can use for my own sinister plans.
My plan is to start you off at around 3rd level, since that gives the Primes a bit of experience and room to explain how they got off the Prime Material and into the Planes and it gives Planars room to play something with up to a +2 level adjustment or to have been around the Wheel once or twice.
As far as origins, go wild. Nordic setting, Egyptian setting, Asian setting, Oerth, Toril, Krynn, maybe even Athas (except you can't be psionic, so it might not be a great choice) or something of your own choosing. The major thing is: I have to know what your character believes, how they relate to the world(s) around them and what their ultimate goals are.
Again, you've got plenty of time to think it over since I'm still researching things and getting it all ready.

Oh, also: I'm looking at the Dead Factions and Exiled Factions articles from various Dragon magazines as well as the Planar Handbook for the faction prestige classes. Faction based prestige classes will certainly be allowed for those that are card-carrying factols; other prestige classes will be considered.
James Keegan |
So the game is set before, during or after the faction war?
I'm not quite sure yet. I have to do some more reading. Sigil will play a part in the game, but I'm not sure how big of a part yet. Various factions will be involved, but it may or may not be important if they're centered in Sigil.

How about an Aaisimar rogue?
Not all Aaisimar's are saints. Some of them get a thrill out of a successful con, a cut purse, or a picked lock and of course large heaps of treasure. Just because one mother is a half-celstial and one's father a paladin does not make one a goody-two shoes. This Aaisimar (as of yet unnamed) had a hard time staying awake through his lessons on the celstial realm, fighting for the cause of good, and the light of Pelor. He always found more joy in sneaking out of the abbey where he grew up and spending time with a gang of urchins who had a slightly criminal bent. He learned to pick locks, cut the strings on a purse and lie with a straight face, talents at which he had much more aptitude for than fighting for the cause of justice.
More to come later. It'll be more clearly thought out then too.
How do you want stats generated?
BTW, I have a small question; am I in the game or not?
James Keegan |
Aasimar rogue would be fine. I still have logistics (how battle maps will be handled, how I want to run things, etc.), plot and everything to figure out. I want to be fair about who's playing and who's an alternate while still not having an enormous group of barmy bloods to worry about. It seems the pbp vs. not in a pbp stipulation is largely meaningless, since most of the people with an interest play in at least one.
Once I get something concrete ready to run, I'll let everyone know what's up.

Does anybody want to be my human vikings' half orc (somewhat fraternal) twin brother?
I might actually consider this. I've never played a half-orc, and the idea of a half-orc viking appeals to me. I have all the 2e Planescape boxed sets, but have never used them, so I'm really excited about this game. And I must admit that while I think the setting is great, planar races don't usually excite me all that much, hence the willingness to play a half-orc... Haven't quite had time to think of a class, though...
Like many of the other guys, I'm currently in three PbPs, and if necessary, I'd be willing to bow out to give others a chance...

Me already playing half-orc druidic avenger (druid variant), see above. Me can tie up me background with the human viking. :D

You can use Invisible Castle to roll stats and then require the players to link the results to this page. That way you can check the results if you're so inclined.
I'm fine with point buy, rolling in RL, or rolling on Invisible Castle.
Are we going to use the honor system or make rolls on Invisible Castle (or some other similiar site) and link them back to the game thread?

...so I'm completely ignorant to domain feats.
Lucky you. I've had a player use them and he completly abused them. I don't know if they are inherently broken or if it's just his interpretation is broken, but they were way to powerful.
He was adding 1d6 or something to either his attack or AC for several minutes multiple times a day, and this was at first level.EDIT: Maybe Radavel is talking about something else. I'm thinking of Devotions
