Reghar could also be known by O.L.L.I if he bounces for a Demonic-type bar. Chaos is what he looks for, and Chaos and evil is a two-fer. O.L.L.I would have probably met Reghar in his wanderings.

That could work.

Greetings berks and cutters.

I've answered some more of the questions in my profile.

So Thorn might have come across O.L.L.I in his wanderings – they frequent a couple of the same places, and it seems the little modron has a finger in many pies. I can’t see any obvious links to the others – barring a common alignment in the case of Lysanderis, Kev, and Reghar.

Thorn does have a weakness for beautiful women, and it looks like Lys has it going on in that department – but Thorn has little need for a tout these days, or interest in the Sensates, so any meeting would likely be a chance one … of course, if the elf is that hot, he might decide to stalk her a little… ;-)

The bariaur doesn’t particularly like demons – more a tradition thing than anything personal. Even he’s not stupid enough to head over to the Pious Tanar’ri to pick a fight, but maybe he could run into Reghar one night if he gets drunk enough and just happens to wander over in that direction.

Not sure about links to Kev or Rennet – I see that Rennet has had a run-in with the Takers before, but that was likely before Thorn’s time with the faction.

Kev haunts taverns and similiar places. When not out on some criminal endeavor or trying to find some attrctive company of course.

Yeah, I don’t think a chance meeting – either prior to or at the start of the campaign – is out of the question. Thorn is not adverse to mixing with criminal elements, although he doesn’t seek them out, and the two seem to share a common interest in drink and does, so they may frequent some of the same haunts from time to time.

Despite their matching alignment, I’m not sure how much they really have in common; while Thorn has little time or patience for laws and rules, he doesn’t actively go out and break the law, except on occasion to make a point. Despite being pretty chaotic, he shares the typical Sigilian desire to be part of an organization; Kev is actually probably more anarchic than Thorn is. As an aside, I see bariaurs and other Ysgardians as being very freedom loving, wanting to be masters of their own destinies etc … but also somewhat bound by fairly rigid traditions. Laws, never! But you have to respect tradition…

I think since you have a soft spot for the ladies, perhaps a mutual friend in Marya Ambleton, the barwench from the Taker bar Tear of the Barghest? Assuming James will use her as an NPC of course.

Yep. Marya will almost certainly have rejected Thorn’s rather lewd and unsubtle advances, leading to the bariaur becoming suitably surly and chaotic – which might just spark Olli’s interest. Of course, Thorn has no love for the Harmonium, so won’t be taken with Olli’s association with them, but he’ll probably find the little walking suitcase harmless enough.

Hey, I was thinking about the hammer issue – I have no problems with James allowing Olli to be proficient in it, but I was also thinking about another possible solution:

New weapon: Mechanus Gear Hammer. Does the same damage as a mace, but can be manipulated so that the gears start spinning fast, and it does bludgeoning AND slashing damage. Its an exotic or martial weapon, but modrons are proficient in it.

Yeah I figured perhaps Thorn and O.L.L.I could have met briefly as he hit on Marya shamelessly in O.L.L.I's presence, either on the street or perhaps at the Eyes of Elysium water bar. O.L.L.I is also probably pretty hard to miss, seeing as there can't be too many Modrons clanking about the Cage. While O.L.L.I might have an affinity for the Hardhead way of thinking, he will probably never get into the Harmonium due to his drawbacks (strength, dexterity, looks, etc.). I expect as his character progresses he might decide to gravitate over to the Fraternity of Order and try going at information and law from that angle.

As to the mace, it sounds like a neat concept, but James would have the final say. I was just thinking of a themed weapon, since O.L.L.I's stats martially are teh suck, and my dice rolling jinx seems to hold true even for virtual rolling :(

O.L.L.I is never going to be a smiting cleric.

Hey, guys. Haven't been around much. My plan is to try and get this nonsense on the road at the beginning of March, if that's okay with everyone.

Liberty's Edge

suits me mate - do what you need to do.

affirmative, mister keegan sir.

It's all good James, take your time.

No problem. Things aren't exactly moving quickly on my front either so it's not a problem at all.

For James:

Spoiler:
Where does your character call kip (aka, sleep/live if you're not familiar with Cager Cant)?

Rennet is essentially homeless, sleeping wherever he finds himself once he’s exhausted. An inn’s common room, a library bench, or the squalor of a public lavatory, all are equal in his mind, as he views sleep as simply an unwelcome interruption in his search; a means to an end.

What's a typical day in Sigil for him/her?

Rennet wanders the streets, learning as much as possible about Sigil while searching the libraries and sage shops for any snippets of information that match his barely remembered impressions of his home plane. He knows there has to be a portal home in Sigil somewhere, but he also knows he isn’t strong enough to return home yet, or what key might be required to activate it.

Do they consider themselves a mercenary, an adventurer, a champion of a cause or just a working stiff? What do they do as a day job if they aren't out adventuring? If you're on the wrong side of the law, do you work independently or are you part of a gang/cell? Are you likely to take anything that comes along to earn jink or does an opportunity need to have certain hooks to get you in? (Thinly veiled GM motivation question.)

Rennet plods on through life because he has no idea what else to do, and refuses to simply give up. He would best be described as a working stiff, as he wakes up, does the same thing every day, goes to bed, then starts all over again. When he needs a break, Rennet sometimes performs comedy (juggling, pratfalls, etc…) as a busker. Normally he’d be wildly unsuccessful, but his odd appearance coupled with slapstick makes for a decent juxtaposition. Rennet is always on the lookout for more money to grease sage’s palms or keep his piecemeal equipment functional, but he won’t take jobs which offend his sensibilities (though they don’t necessarily have to fall within the guidelines of the law, in fact, it’s better if they don’t).

Detail an NPC and their relationship to you. How did you meet? What were your first impressions? How long have you known them? Do you trust this person?

Lying low to avoid retaliatory strikes by hardheads and mercykillers, Rennet has recently taking to “shacking up” with a small group of Athar, who can appreciate his distrust for all things spiritual. He was invited to stay by a middle aged aasimaar fallen paladin / sorceress named Ezruth, who has a bit of “a soft spot for dark, silent types” as she puts it. Though Rennet rescued Ezruth from certain death in the prisons, he finds her attentions and constant attempt to draw parallels between their situations annoying and distracting, and may move back to the streets before long. Though he doesn’t reciprocate her romantic advances, he does feel relatively “safe” keeping her at arm’s length (which is closer than he allows most people).

*What is one memory that affects you to this day? How has it changed you? (Please answer this one, if possible.)

Rennet remembers the capricious new gods of his world tearing away parts of his soul like so much holiday wrapping. He remembers the agony of branding, and the humiliation of public spectacle, followed by abandonment. He longs for death, but simply can’t reconcile the thought of killing himself.

If you're an immigrant to Sigil or otherwise not a born and bred freewheeling Planewalker, do you ever get homesick for your home plane?

Rennet loves and loathes his homeland in equal parts. He longs to return, but will return as a conquering hero or not at all.

At the end of the day, where do you go and what do you do to unwind?

Rennet is a familiar face at the more exotic “opium dens” of Sigil. He’ll try anything he can pay for, hoping to remember, or to forget.

Good work, guys.

YeuxandI, I don't have access to the Spell Compendium, so I have to ask you to either type up your SC spells for me to look at or pick something from the SRD or another source.

Also, if you're new to Planescape and you feel like dropping four dollars, I think the Planewalker's Handbook (or whatever it's called) is a good choice for a pdf purchase. Just a suggestion, your mileage may vary. The stuff on magic and magic items is different from 2nd edition, so you may choose to ignore that, but the rest is pretty good.

Some important info for berks living in the Cage at this moment in time:

-Demogorgon, the Prince of Demons, was recently destroyed on his home plane in his own fortress by a bunch of Prime bloods. Darks on this ain't even gonna cost you jink: everyone knows it. The true dark of it, though, only the really well-lanned Cager can tell you. Rumors say Orcus (himself a cause for a great deal of browned shorts) had a hand in his downfall. Others hold the Eladrin were the real cause. Primes hold it was some of their own what deserve all the garnish.

-The recent upheavals have left a lot of Tanar'ri in a bad spot. Demogorgon's proxy in Sigil is MIA and many of old Baboon-faces' minions can be found hawking their mercenary services or causing trouble.

-There's even now another war going on in the Abyss over the title of Prince of Demons. If you rattle your bonebox enough, you'll find out that Orcus or Graz'zt are the ones most Abyssal politicos are betting on and it seems Orcus is the current favorite by a slim margin.

-A rogue Secundus modron (which very few can even describe, they're so rarely seen) has taken it's own little horde of geometric minions and is raiding settlements on the Chaotic side of the Wheel. If something isn't done about it, it may attract enough followers to its Crusade to start threatening Gate Towns like Xaos or Glorium.

-The Fated have posted a bounty for a thief rumored to have recently broken into the Hall of Records. What they made off with isn't mentioned, but it must have been something valuable. Berks with more humor than sense can be heard suggesting that if the Takers weren't strong enough to hold onto it in the first place, they clearly weren't meant to have it, so public sympathy falls to whatever cross-trading knight pulled the job.

-With the constant upheaval in the Abyss reaching almost unprecedented new levels since Demogorgon's demise, the Baatezu are beginning to make some reversals in the Blood War. Tiefling and Cambion recruiters are not an uncommon sight in the Lower Ward and the Hive, looking for greater and greater numbers of mercenaries.

-The Harmonium has been tightening the reins on Sigil, lately, looking even more fervently for any excuse to drag a coney-catcher or two-bit Knight in front of a Guvner before handing them over to the Red Death. The Anarchists and the Indeps have been trying to push back, but progress has been poor. It seems the Hardheads may have had this in mind for a while and planned accordingly.

-The most agreed-upon dark, however, is that it's a good time to be a Dustie, a Bleaker or a Collector. Deaders are plentiful in the Cage these days and Barmies are five to a jink.

Yep yep! I'll have that for ya tomorrow or the next day, along with the completed Deris.

O.L.L.I would definitely keep his listening apparatus to the ground on these two darks.

Spoiler:
James, would O.L.L.I contact Primus RE the rogue army? Also where did the proxy of baboon boy call kip? Is that a well-known dark or will O.L.L.I have to rattle his bone box and jink pouch to get it?

** spoiler omitted **

Spoiler:
1. He would likely want to look into that for Primus and it may be one of his functions as an agent of Mechanus.

2. Questions like that are a good way to get penned in the deadbook most days. Not because it's a secret, but because it attracts a certain kind of attention. OLLI would have to be very careful and spread a lot of garnish. Even then, getting a lead takes a lot of time.

Great, a broken autonomous robot and a suicidal paladin. Ready...go!

Liberty's Edge

Not to mention a randy goat-man who possibly has at least three different organizations gunning for him, a narcissistic elf who is probably too beautiful for her own good, and a half orc who gets paid to try to keep demons from getting unruly.

Sounds like all the usual suspects in a Planescape game :P

Spoiler:
OK. O.L.L.I isn't suicidal, just curious, so he'll let the proxy thing slide. He will most definitely be on DEFCON 3 when it comes to any chant on what the unemployed tanar'ri are up to. Not hard investigation, but ear to the wall stuff. Most likely they wont mess with Mechanus, but you never know.

I've finally got the questions. Added to my profile.

Finally, completely, totally done.

Looks good, cutter(s).

I'm not sure if I'm going to just write each of you an individual hook and then have you all meet up in action or if I'll just start with all of you coming together. If any of you are acquainted, that's fine, but it's not a huge deal. I want to do something rather character-driven, hence all the crazy questions, so I think giving you all at least an individualised opening is a good way to make a return on your investments of time and energy.

And since it's Planescape, you can expect experience rewards for talking your way out of a sticky spot, just FYI.

Shiny. Talking is one of Kev's specialties.

I'm done too James - added height, weight, age etc.

James Keegan wrote:

Well that's a relief since O.L.L.I certainly isn't going to FIGHT his way out of a sticky situation!

I'm going to try (try!) to really get started by next week. Trying to figure out how much planning I should really do for this and I don't have much time to write up statblocks and things when I get home from work. I'll hopefully have little introductory vignettes for everyone to start. We're going to start separately and then try bringing everyone together.

Shiny.

Nice work. For my pbp game, prior to starting I had the first few descriptive, scene setting posts typed up, as well as short intro posts for each character. I had stats worked out for the common mooks of the adventure, and name and race worked out for the major npcs and bad guys (in some cases class and a rough outline of stats were also done). I had the main plot worked out, and had maps of several locations (although I hadn’t yet gotten around to an area map or a map of the town).

The first adventure ran for 10 months real time, which gave me plenty of time to work out the rest (for the most part) as I went along.

Awesome! Cant wait to start.

And it's been one of the funnest games I've had the privilege to play in.

Oh wow. That was amazing.

I'm told that if Japanese kids used sweet like we do, as slang, it would be said sweeto. And, apparently, my friends introduced it to some Japanese kids and now its sweeping the nation! Sorta. It's catchy though.

Here is where the campaign will start.

Here is where it may be discussed.

Started with Rennet for no particular reason. I'll try to update it with everyone else one-by-one soon.
