Very Happy with War of Immortals

5/5

I got my copy earlier this week, and went through it page by page skimming all the new content. I'm very happy with what I've seen so far, and can't wait to dig into it more.

Flavorful, Awesome, but feels half-baked and unplayable in its current state

3/5

A lot of good stuff in this book. Amazing flavor and options for higher-level play is something I really enjoyed from this book and I think the mythic options here really delivered. I always enjoyed ideas and themes of fighting toe-to-toe with demigods and ascending to divinity, and it's something I've always felt was missing in the majority of TTRPGs. Now, I can do that with PF2e, and it's awesome.

But there is also a whole lot of jank in this book, the biggest of which is how Mythic Monsters are designed. As much as I would love to play and/or run a mythic campaign, I feel very apprehensive to do so because the way Mythic Monsters are designed makes mid to high level mythic unplayable, or at the very least unenjoyable to play.

I would love to be in a mythic campaign one day or even run one myself, but I just don't think mythic is playable in its current state. I really think this book could benefit from a big errata. There is something really really great going on here, but it needs alot of polishing.

We have Ascended!

5/5

I love everything in this book.
This team is truly mythic.
The overflowing lore in this book has me stunned.
I can not wait to see what comes next!

So Szuriel is on the cover but she doesn't get a mythic monster statblock? Damn.

It have been confirmed that PF2 will never get deities statted up, as their power level was far above even something mythic can fight.

so was there an 8th taken out due to page space or something, or has everyone been counting wrong, or there's an 8th that is hidden elsewhere than the rest?

The 8th Mythic monster is the pdf itself.

A la Necronomicon.

Does the Necronomicon actually exist in Pathfinder Cannon? Or would that just be the Book of the Damned?

It exists!

There's also the Book of the Dead:

Oh are the Horsemen full-blown deities now? I thought they were on the same level as Demon Lords where they could be beatable by a top-level mythic party a la Wrath of the Righteous.

If you ever need a version of her to fight, you could get one of those avatar statblocks and paste in Legendary prof for every type of stat. It would still only be like fighting a pinkie toe but it would be something.

The apocalypse riders were demigods in 1E and had statblocks. For example, Szuriel was L28 creature. Unless she was promoted, she should likely be L24 or L25 with mythic abilities.

Traditionally, there were 3 types of dieties (entities which grant spells to worshippers), as explained by James Jacobs last year:
1. Gods (no statblock, only die via Paizo or GM fiat, like Gorum)
2. Demigods, which were L26-L30 and required mythic rules to fight (demon lords, Great Old Ones, Empyreal Lords, etc.)
3. Quasi-deities, which can be any level (Lorthact or conqueror worms)

I don’t have my PDF yet. But does the animist get a focus magic item? I know other casters with focus spells have one each and was wondering if they get one here too.

There are no magic items in this book. Considering, as far as I can tell, the other "focused" items did not come out in the same books as their classes, we can expect it in another book. Some focused items, such as the champion's, need a rework so perhaps we will see them both in Divine Mysteries.

EDIT: To be clear there are *some* magic items but they are all mythic items, not regular magic items.

I absolutely LOVE that they address the cult of the Dawnflower, in character, the sidebar on page 59!

Anyone know when this will be added to Foundry VTT ?

Not going to lie I'm a little salty that the thing I've wanted most in pf2e (being able to apply runes directly to your character to empower unarmed attacks or unarmored ac) is tied to a rare class that I don't really vibe with. The monkeys paw curls.

Animist is a really cool class and the class archetypes are great. Bloodrager is an awesome new take on the class. Again a little salty that seneschal witch is the only class archetype that's rare and maybe the one I was most looking forward to playing, but such is the rarity system.

Wow, this book is Juicy with lore, specially in places I wasn’t expecting to find it

I'm on the opposite side where it comes to Bloodrager. Been wanting 1e Bloodrager to be put into 2e as a class archetype since the game released, given the sorcerer dedication + Moment of Clarity feat and action tax approach just makes it very unappealing, so definitely got the monkey paw curling on that end. Really do not vibe with the theming change one bit.

Yeah, I'm underwhelmed as well. The class archetyoe would have been nice as its own thing for people who like it, but for the name Bloodrager I would have preferred something which is more like the class of old.

zomg yes! When I picked it up I was expecting to have to sift through for hidden gems to expand upon in writing lore, and right as I was quaking with how much we were getting from the chapter headings I stumble into the Mythic Gazetteer. It's gonna take me months to work through this!

So I have a question? Did I get a super special physical copy or do all of them not have colored art on the cover? Mine has color on the title and the logo but not for any of the artwork. The back is in color but the front is just white with black outlining of the art.

All the copies at the game store looked like this for what it is worth but it seems not right to me. Any info?

I guess I did, although the price on the back is that of the regular edition ($67.49). Not sure what went on but it was pretty strange. It doesn't affect use of the book it just looked weird when I picked it up. A bit irritated at the $14 difference now that I see that but what can you do, you know? It all works out in the end. Thanks for the response!

Faultspawn: Re-added

Ask if you can use the Automatic Bonus Progression rules for your character, which can apply those benefits to your character without requiring items.
