A Starfinder Society Scenario designed for 1st- through 4th-level characters.
When a simulated training mission goes wrong, a team of novice Starfinders find themselves trapped in a corrupted version of the virtual reality training program. After meeting a mysterious stranger within the system, they face an important choice: exit the program, or stay and fight to save Guidance from the Data Scourge? If they choose to fight, they experience strange revelations and battle dangerous glitches—all leading to the truth behind the Data Scourge attacks.
The concept here is truly excellent - our PCs have themselves a holodeck mishap and end up as the only ones who can save the society as a result.
To me that there is an excellent set up, but what I didn't like was the way they handled this. The NPC they got for this is very like...I feel like from a player perspective there is no reason to trust them and from the GM perspective you have very little to give the players to convince them that this *absolutely vital to the plot* NPC should be trusted in any way.
This put a bit of a damper on things, but the encounters themselves all being variations on the theme of holodeck mishap is one of the more creative things they have done in a scenario in a little while.
Overall still highly recommended, but I recommend the GM really dig deeper and find ways to bring the key NPC to life.
Just finished this, and it was a great time. Without getting too spoilery, I had played an associated adventure from an earlier season just days before this, so seeing things circle round to tie into the overall plot was awesome. I also had the good fortune of playing the Raia pregen, whose computer skills were very much required.
While there is certainly combat here, having a technologically savvy character along is going to be pretty key to succeeding at this scenario. It ties very heavily into the overall metaplot of the Data Scourge, and as I hinted earlier, players that have been around for a while (or who have played the older seasons) may also be in for an interesting revelation.
Oh please, don't let the training program malfunction be ... no not saying it. The map list made me think of it and I know its already written but NO. Not going to will that into existence.
So... this product page says it has the Dataphiles faction tag. Which totally makes sense... but the scenario itself doesn't have the tag and the conclusion doesn't say anything about bonus faction rep for Dataphiles... one of these is probably a mistake....
