The characters, villains, and starships of the Dead Suns Adventure Path come alive on your tabletop with this collection of more than 100 creature and starship pawns, designed for use with the Starfinder Roleplaying Game or any tabletop science fantasy RPG. Printed on sturdy cardstock, each of these double-sided pawns slots into a size-appropriate plastic base from the Starfinder Pawns Base Assortment, making them easy to mix with traditional metal or plastic miniatures. With dozens of distinct images, the Starfinder Dead Suns Pawn Collection depicts the enemies and allies from all six adventures of the Dead Suns Adventure Path.
From space pirates to hideous alien beasts, find all of the enemies and allies of the Dead Suns Adventure Path on these beautifully illustrated pawns! While creature pawns are broken out by base size, all starship pawns use medium bases, from the tiniest fighter to the largest warship. The Starfinder Dead Suns Pawn Collection includes:
I find it difficult in general to review pawn collections, and reviewing the Dead Suns Pawn Collection will be even more challenging because I was only a player in the AP, not the GM. This means a "how often did I have what I needed to run encounters" standard isn't feasible. I'll have to make do with some general impressions of the set. First, there's a (perhaps) surprising number of starship tokens--by my count, about thirty in total. Second, there's only a handful (5) Huge creatures. There are a decent number of Small and Large creatures, but the vast majority are Medium. Third, the set mostly includes Dead Suns-specific creatures, which makes sense, of course. But if you're buying the set to supplement your collection for general Starfinder gaming, I don't see a lot of Alien Archive creatures listed. There are a few like Patrol-Class Security Robots, elementals, ksariks, and scavenger slimes. Last, the set matches the standard of all of Paizo's AP-specific sets--it doesn't include bases, comes in a thin cardboard sleeve (so you'll need a solution to hold the pawns once the shrink-wrap is removed), etc. Apart from a statement that I think the cover art is cool, that's all I've got.
So, we are already on the fourth book of the campaign, we started there was not yet this amazing collection, and you can feel the difference. Even NPC´s that their portrait was not shown in the book are here, that's a great add. Yes, no gargantuan monsters, but I made them myself, sure, I would like to have them aswell in pawns, But I understand that due to their size would be extremely complicated to make pawns, specially since there are not stands for gargantuan monsters (4x4).
Overall, don't let that detract you, a must for the ones that are running this amazing campaign.
Gives you 99% of the needed creatures & starships for Dead Suns!
GOOD:
Most pawns are bright enough & have minimal cut-off.
Some creatures without full-body (or any) art get pawns.
All playable alien races get 1 pawn each.
Gargantuan, colossal & super-colossal starships get large pawns.
BAD:
You get 3 baykoks, but need only 2.
You get 2 (huge) Jubsnuths, but need only 1.
You get 3 (huge) Skyfishers, but need only 1!
Tiny & small starships are still printed on medium pawns instead of small ones.
Huge starships are printed on large pawns instead of medium ones.
UGLY:
There are no Ellicoth pawns, as Paizo makes no gargantuan pawns, but you'll need 3 of them!
I can recommend this set to anyone gamemastering the Dead Suns Adventure Path, as it makes playing it much more fun, even if it's not perfect.
Ugh, why must this stuff come out so long after the products they're based off of? Really want to use this for the game I'm starting, which has been delayed (mixed feelings on whether that's a good thing or not) to start, but might still get off the ground well before these come out.
Yeah, please consider releasing the pawns in two waves after three volumes have been released.
I would even be okay with a price of $14.99 for three volumes, that would only be $5 for one AP volume.
I think it would be a great idea to test this for the three part APs instead of making one pawn set for volumes 7-12?
I agree, and like this idea. Split them up into "what you'll need" packs for clusters of the adventures, and get them out to us sooner. You can still toss out an all-in-one box at the later date like posted here, but IMO the pawns are almost useless to those of us who are trying to run the modules as they come out/before the whole run is finished.
The pawns should come out before the entire adventure, not after :(
So anxious for these to come out. I've been running Dead Suns for a few months. Our group doesn't meet too often, so we've only finished book 1. By September, we'll have plenty of the AP left to make use of these pawns. In the meantime, I've made my own for most of the ones that aren't matched by available pawns. Looking forward to see what the "official" versions look like.
Not to be "that guy" but you missed the Ellicoth again. We didn't get one in the alien archive pawn box and it's not listed here dispite there being one in book 3

Ellicoths are gargantuan, and they don't make gargantuan pawns.

Okay, didn't know that they don't do gargantuans. Just going to have to make my own then
I'm sure most do, but be sure to double check your sheets. I got duplicates of sheet one (a-co) and was missing sheet 2 (co-ki). Hopefully not too big a deal to get the replacement (post already made in support).
