Pros: The art is a lot cleaner than in issues 1-6. There were some panels in the previous story arc where I had NO idea what the heck was going on. I might be in the minority on this, but I'm happy the goofy Paizo exclusive covers are gone - I liked them while they lasted, but they would have gotten annoying after more than one arc. Finally, I liked getting a little taste of the party interacting between adventures.

Cons: As others have said, I miss the maps. Not enough to cancel my subscription, at least at this point. But I also didn't care for the two page spread on an NPC that seems (at least at this point) to have nothing to do with the story. Unless the "Rushlight Society" winds up at least mentioned in the story, this seems like already existing content that was shoehorned into the back of the book to meet a page count. It is the COMBINATION of the missing maps and the inclusion of seemingly irrelevant gaming content that has me concerned.

Happy with it.

*****

Glad to see the maps go. Never had a good time trying to remove them without causing damage. They were fairly useless and took up space.

Maps and Encounters?

*( )( )( )( )

The comic is OK, but if the maps are going to be cancelled, I will be cancelling my subscription. Having to repurchase the comics in the anthology to get the extra features was kind of a slap in the face to begin with, but removing the best part and leaving ads for comics I have zero interest in is a real turn-off.

Good quality, bad delivery

**( )( )( )

In my opinion:

Comics are good. Maps are better.
No map = No subscription.

Great Story!

*****

While I miss the map, I collect the comic for the story of Pathfinder in comic book form.

Now that out of the way, I have to say that the art in this issue is a big step up from the first six issues. So much so that I can tell what is going on when all the characters are grouped up.

I'm also looking forward to the reveal of the creature as I thought it was going to be something a bit more devilish!

I really like the look of this cover, but is there really no Pathfinder logo or issue number on this one?

I like the cover as well.

Ooh. Sounds like the Sandpoint Devil will make an appearance.

Does the new issue come with the removable map?

So...what is the joke? Who's cover "was" this or are they not doing that anymore (or did I just not get it)?? :(

Shadow Lodge

I really like this art style.

THey're still doing the maps, but the "homage" covers ended with the first story arc.

There is *NO* map in issue #7

That is per Erik Mona on a thread about issue #7 (but a different cover)

Paizo Employee Chief Technical Officer

Yep... It turns out that maps are done with issue 6. (There is still gaming content, though.)

No Maps? I find this very distressing. It was my favorite part of the comic.

Paizo Employee Publisher, Chief Creative Officer

Sorry. They were causing a lot of damage to the comics, and since we have LOTS of other products with maps in them it seemed like a natural thing to cut.

As a comic collector, I'm happy to lose the maps due to the damage they caused to the covers, although as a gamer I liked the idea of the maps.

I am saddened to lose the "homage" covers. I really liked them.

They aren't "lost". There was a miscommunication between Paizo and Dynamite, and they went astray for a few issues. We will likely get back to them because we were having fun with them.

I dunno, what do you guys think?

The maps are good, but personally I'm happy for a bit of variety in terms of the gaming content. Tying yourselves to providing an encounter every issue might make the format a little stale.

I don't have my copies yet, but from what I've heard there's only 4 pages of game related stuff in this issue? For me, a drop in the quantity of that material would be a much bigger deal if it were to continue.

As expected from my previous post, I would love to see more "homage" covers. And I loved that they weren't all comic covers, but movies as well. Pretty Awesome!

Sczarni RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16

I liked the "homage" covers, but to be honest, I didn't buy many of them. (I have the one with the goblin and the lightning bolt, and the "Pathfinder No More" one.) TBH, I base my decision on which one I think looks the best :-)

I could see an argument for the Paizo.com covers being more traditional, now that you are down to only two "normal" variants per issue.

That said, I was looking forward to getting a "Seven Samurai"-style cover for this issue ;-)

I really enjoyed the maps, it was the main reason I was buying the comic. I decided to pass on #7 when I saw there was no map. I hope they come back

Yeah, I can't say I'm pleased by this decision--and I'm not about to pay the same amount for less content. No map, no sale.

Silver Crusade

Never got the maps as I buy digital, so no worries on a missing map for me.

My main concern is just the release schedule. Hopefully it's smoothed out now (monthly release). Nothing kills my interest in a subscription-like book when there is a delay in releasing it.

Great art inside. Allot better then the first arc. The artist seems to really draw Seoni well. :) Some of the best interpretation of her I've seen.

Grand Lodge

I really loved the maps too, I will however look forward to more great art , story and game content.
Just an idea: I would love to see a collectible set of cards or something spread out over the story-line in place of the maps, I think the maps were a great touch and 'hook' which made buying the comic a real treat! (you miss out if you wait and get the hard back)...or how about one of those magic barcode weird square things with an exclusive downloadable map or similar?? My subscription remains whatever, I love the comics :)

Pathfinder Comics Subscriber

I'll miss the maps a little, but not enough to end my subscription. I want to see a return to the homage covers, however, so far I've only missed 1 (and I'm still seeking that one on the secondary market).

Pathfinder Battles Case Subscriber; Pathfinder Maps Subscriber

TOTALLY LAME!!! Until they return the maps, I am not buying anymore issues of this comic series. Too bad, with the maps and mini adventure it had become my favorite comic and was something to look forward to every month, but now that it is just a basic comic and of only average quality, I think I'll go back to Marvel and maybe pick up the Thor, God of Thunder series. If they return the maps I will continue with the Pathfinder comics. I hope there is enough outcry that they realize they messed up. I hate when you find a really high quality thing you love and then the manufacturers decide to go cheap and ruin it. Next they will be outsourcing the artwork to China.

I'm in the 'missing the maps' camp. My wife and I really enjoyed getting that little extra with my comic. As for the homage covers, they really did not do it for me. I would prefer they did not return so I could get something a little more, I guess, traditional or more related to the story inside.

We just reinventoried our comics, and found a few extra of the exclusives that we thought were out of stock... go now!

Game content dumped to three pages. Not worth 4 bucks to me anymore, having the mini encounter, game material and map was. The art is hands down better then what was in the first six but I bought it for both game material and the comic. The comic on it's own is not enough to hold me.

I have dozens of them and the maps never damaged a single issue. The maps with the adventure were a lot of us PAYING CUSTOMER'S favorite thing about them. My son and I looked forward to playing the mini adventure on the awesome little map every month, now that is ruined, not worth the time to make my own map for a mini adventure. I hope you realize you made a HUGE mistake and return them as soon as issue #8 and maybe even send us a free map for issue #7 since we paid the same price as issues with maps. You definetly did NOT make it clear there would not be a map with issue #7. If you don't return the maps Pathfinder comics is ruined for me and I'll go back to Marvel. The funny thing is all of my other issues with maps in them came in mint condition, but for the first time with issue #7 I received it from Paizo with two of the corners severly beat up and in terrible condition, go figure.

I dont know if this is the right place for such feedback, but I appreciated the fact the second arc is a sequel to the first. I much prefer that to the comics I've seen where each story arc is totally distinct from the others. You seem to have done a good job of referencing previous events without making the earlier issues a necessity. I hope that continues.

Having now received this issue, I'd reiterate what I said above - four pages of game material seems like noticeably less than it used to be for me. I'm not fussed about losing the maps as such since variety is something I value and different gaming content will keep things fresh, but I'd be disappointed if the non-comic stuff was being gradually 'phased out' or reduced.

Sczarni RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16

Do these issues have the same page count as the previous ones? I'm a little disappointed to hear that there is less "game content", but if the comic stories are longer, that seems like a reasonable trade. So were the extra pages of game content replaced with something else (and if so, what?) or simply cut?

Yes, please don't phase out the game content! Even if you get rid of the posters/maps, that doesn't mean you can't still include an encounter.

Another vote for bringing back maps. I don't see how maps were damaging the books.

Paizo Employee Publisher, Chief Creative Officer

They sometimes cause creases on the covers, and a lot of comics readers highly value pristine condition.

We're paying close attention to feedback on this issue. I'll let you guys know if we're able to make any changes to bring back maps or encounter content. Each issue is presently scheduled to continue including character write-ups and other rules-oriented content in addition to background. We ought to be able to include encounters with or without maps from time to time, and if the general sense is that people are really, really missing them, I'll try to increase their frequency going forward.

Paizo Employee Chief Technical Officer

The comic content remains at 22 pages in issue 7, same as issue 6. There is a two-page increase in paid advertisements, which—like it or not—is a really good thing for Dynamite and for the longevity of the Pathfinder comics line. (Issue 6 has only house ads—meaning unpaid or contractual ads for Dynamite or for Paizo.)

Pathfinder Battles Case Subscriber; Pathfinder Maps Subscriber

Maps have never damaged my comics, I remove them very carefully. Even if that were the main reason for getting rid of the maps, there are so many different ways to put a map in a comic without harming ANY page of the comic that it shouldn't be a factor in keeping the maps. <sigh>

I don't mind that the maps are gone. My comics were coming with creased covers, so it is nice to not need to worry about that anymore.

Are the logistical difficulties of including maps/handouts for just the paizo.com exlcusives prohibitive?

The absence of maps basically eliminates my interest in the comic as a physical medium. Where before I bought both the comics and the hardback, I will now probably just wait for the hard back.

Ditto. Combine that with the fact that all of my gaming groups don't use miniatures/battlemaps, and this just means less damaged comics and one less thing for me to have to throw away.

My son and I really enjoyed the maps. They went well with his beginner set and pawns collection. We really enjoyed reading the comic and then playing the scenario. I'm saddened that Piazo is catering to the collectors instead of the younger generations. The comics with maps were a great tie in to the game. Now I can't see myself continuing this subscription.

I enjoyed the maps as well, but if other game content is still there, I will probably endure them lacking...but if there is an option to bring them back: please do!

As a person who reads a lot of comics (no really, like A LOT) I feel that with the average story and average art that you find in the last story arc and again in issue 7, you need to bring something else to the table. The maps did that, it pushed a mostly forgetable tale into a different space, that being the tabletop. Comic collectors should not be caring that the comic comes a "little creased" it is ultimatly the maps that are going to make these collectable and have any value after purchase or years down the road. I feel that your products should all lead back to the game, to boost sales of the core books and Golarion setting books, the comic no longer serves this purpose and I fear is now moving in the direction of failure.

The maps and encounter content was the main reason I was buying these comics. To be honest I was looking at the graphic novel part of it as a bonus to what I was really buying it for. I admit on my last issue the staple on the spine was starting to tear the cover under the strain of the map insert, but I didn't care (i know others do, though).

I was really enjoying this because I was using these encounters as a supplement to the Rise of the Runelords campaign I've been running.

I'm disappointed first that there are no more maps and second that I wasn't told this and had to discover it by coming here. I'll be canceling my subscription shortly, and I'll see if I can get a refund for #7 too--the main reason I subscribe at all is for the maps.

This is too bad.

Notice the description doesn't mention anything about the maps. It is mentioned in the descriptions for the first six issues.

I was really disappointed with the lack of a map and the much shorter "game info" section in the back. I enjoy the story and all, but to be honest, I think the art has been consistently awful and the game material is sort of the "clincher" that keeps me subscribing at this point.
