Xusius fires another Magic Missile into the fox.
He then moves up.
It takes a full round action to break out of the laughing fit, and Xusius is currently prone as well.

Will save vs. DC=17: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Hannar stands and casts defensively...
Concentration vs. DC=17: 1d20 + 4 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 4 + 2 + 2 = 20
Applied Level(+4), current CHA(+2), and Focused Mind trait(+2). Please adjust if incorrect.
...and two missiles of Force strike and hit the Fox...
Force damage vs. Fox: 2d4 + 2 ⇒ (1, 2) + 2 = 5

Guess I will just waste a complete round to stop laughing then.

There's always RP. :)

Deluge has no weapons in his hand, having been happily zapping the crocodile. He also has a sucky CMD. And then there is the fact that he has no interest in getting between the fox and his exit. So he just goes with it. He is grappled. but very cooperative. In fact...
"Mind if I help? I'll just go over there and get out of the way."
If released he will take himself out of the way of the stairs. After zapping the fox, of course.

Deluge won't be voluntarily released before Virml's next turn. He's confused after all.

![]() |

I do, but it requires concentration. I was confused (apropo, no?) - I thought the PC under the power of suggestion to clear the stariway was grappling me, not the one confused one.

That was Hannar, but he made his save.

Aye's on second, we're not talking about him. ;)

Gasping in pain, Yangrit stumbles out of the desks and along the wall, slipping past Xusius to take a couple of swings at that Dad-blasted, gol-dinged fox!
Flurry of Blows 1 (cold iron kama): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 101d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Flurry of Blows 2 (fist): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 211d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

Yangrit, I'm pretty sure you can not move (the equivalent of) 30' and "full-attack action" (with Flurry of Blows) in the same round. I'll differ to rules that show otherwise (as Paizo likes to use obscure 18th century Appellate Court decisions to base their RAW on rather than just illuminating the dang rules themselves). I'm siting the case of Mini Maximus v. Double Dog DM. Mini was a 20th level fighter with activated boots of speed and an +5 adamantine falchion who wanted to run across a six-lane avenue, and "Tasmanian Devil" her way through a huge Mithril golem blocking the way.
Pau, you're the senpai here. Thoughts?

The Sly Mr. Fox |

Given that I know that I am 100% correct in the above judgement (with a 1.5% margin of error). We continue.
Yangrit comes whirling into the melee like low-to-the-ground cold iron, monk-weapon dervish! But comes up short*.
(*No pun intended this time.)
She rights herself and tries again, but the smug-looking Fox merely extends his thin blade into the dwarven monk's maelstrom of flailing limbs, and puts her on the floor, but fails to put her on the floor.
red rapier v Yangrit (inspired): 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 7 + 2 = 14 damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6 miss!
"OH ALRIGHT!" cries the Fox stepping away from the fight. "I yield. No need to drag this out. Though you have to admit if I had been just a hair more precise...." he smiles again in appreciation of his own imagination of what might have been.

Virml |

1d100 ⇒ 41d100 ⇒ 511d8 - 1 ⇒ (7) - 1 = 61d100 ⇒ 40
Virml recoils from Deluge screaming "DON'D HURD ME! I'M A NONCOMBADAND!"
The toothless man bangs his head into the wall knocking himself nearly senseless (he's at 0 hp), and then just sits on the floor babbling to himself before seeming to sober up.
"Whad happened?"

![]() |

Confused? More like, amused!: 1d4 ⇒ 41d4 ⇒ 31d4 ⇒ 4
Smack: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
"Hey guys, the fox looks like it is still moving? See? We gotta hit it a couple more times!" he fires two arrows at the closest ally. Which looking at the map is Yangrit?
I am so sorry...i hope these miss. You're not an evil outsider, are you @Yangrit? :)
Bow: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 121d8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
Bow: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 151d8 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
..."Wow, what a ride. Was the a spell, or was that all the wiskey i had today? Can't tell really, this whole day was a blur..." He looks at the monk who has both of his arrows caught in her hands, "Wow, you're cool Yangrit. Did i shoot the fox and miss? Nice catch!"
Bernard wanders over to Virml, and sits beside him offering him the flask, "Not sure my friend, not sure. But how about we both get a drink together? That should make our head spin less..."

![]() |

By my understanding, you are correct, GM. Also, could someone freaking heal the bleeding out monk sometime relatively soon?

Deluge hurries over to Pau and gives him a tap with his wand of (minor) curing goodness.
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

![]() |

You're right, of course. Yangrit should've only done the one attack. My mistake.
Breathing and bleeding heavily, Yangrit glares contemptuously at the fox as she grabs her rope from her pack and proceeds to tie him up very, very well. Maybe a little over zealously. Only then does she take the time to drink her very last potion.
Potion of CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
She tosses the vial aside in disgust. I *must* buy some more potent potions next time. These little ones are hardly worth it.
Her still-bloody lip curls as she growls: "Heal up Pau quickly! We still need to find the other Virml. Be sure to grab the other scrap of the poem. We should drop them all off with Madame Koi fish so she stops flooding the archives at some point, too. Now, fox, you will tell us what you know about this whole situation, as we walk, if necessary." The look on her face says "Start talking" in no uncertain terms. Pity she wasn't more specific about exactly *what* the fox should start with, though. She's just too angry and wounded to think clearly now.

![]() |

Xusius gets up and dusts himself off while wondering if anyone would care if he pumped a missile or ten into the fox.
He addresses the fox. "Explain zourzelf. What ees ze meaning of all zis chaos in ze library?"
His slim fingers are white as he tightens his grip on his wand, restraining himself from zapping the fox with some effort.

Breathing and bleeding heavily, Yangrit glares contemptuously at the fox as she grabs her rope from her pack and proceeds to tie him up very, very well. Maybe a little over zealously. Only then does she take the time to drink her very last potion.
The Fox doesn't even bite her once as she works on securing him.
In fact, he helpfully suggests a knot she can use, and puts his finger 'just there' so she can tie it correctly. Inspire competence +3.
Her still-bloody lip curls as she growls: "Heal up Pau quickly! We still need to find the other Virml. Be sure to grab the other scrap of the poem. We should drop them all off with Madame Koi fish so she stops flooding the archives at some point, too."
As Yangrit goes through her plan with he back to their prisoner, the Fox's face suddenly morphs into Virml's visage. He smiles and waves at everyone else from over Yangrit's shoulder. He stops waving, and switches back to the smiling fox face when the dwarf spins back to him.
"Now, fox, you will tell us what you know about this whole situation, as we walk, if necessary."
"Of course, but first I have to ask--do you like puzzles?"

The Sly Mr. Fox |

After folks answer him....
"Once upon a time, in a place where time had very little meaning, there was a young, devastatingly handsome homo vulpes who was renowned throughout lands as the most gifted dramatist, poet, and dilettante of his day. He was both an artist and a muse to those around him."
"As it happens though, the Lords of the First World are jealous of their portfolios, and and so it was our that hero was confronted by one these lords who engage him in a battle of wits. Our protagonist was given a riddle in six parts (seven if you count the header) and challenged to solve it. When he gave his answer, the spiteful Elder reneged upon their deal, and imprisoned him within the confines of the poem with a band of make-believe wardens drawn from the riddles themselves--to keep him company though his timeless imprisonment I suppose."
"It was the hero's hope that once freed he might find a way back to that world of yore, and take to task the one who had falsely imprisoned, but before he did, he lingered among the books of your collection, and noted that he did not appear in any of your histories. Not one poem nor tall tale. All memory of of him had erased. It was as if he had never existed...."

![]() |

Xusius shakes his head at what Yangrit said.
"Non! Ze feesh can wait. We need to take zem to Dean Shaine and Mistress Zarta. I believe zey weel want to know about zis from ze fox. Zey can zen decide about ze feesh."

![]() |

"Mr. Fox. You are a trickster and though your story is very moving...' NOT "...we can hardly assume you are telling the truth. Let us discus things with some of the other that came out of your prison. Starting with the owl and the albatross. Dan Shaine and Mistress Zarta will want to be well informed before making a decision."

![]() |

"Wait! We need to heal Pau before we go."
He looks at Hannar and Pau hoping that Hannar finds some potions on Pau because he himself does not have any on him.
"I have one of ze healing wands eef we need to use eet alzo I cannot do zo myzelf."

![]() |

Pau has a wand of CLW with 30 charges that can be used to bring him up to consciousness.
CLW 7d8 + 7 ⇒ (2, 6, 7, 7, 4, 2, 7) + 7 = 42
”Stupid mages and their pet alligators,” he quietly moans, without much of a flip left to give about the Fox.

![]() |

Seeing how he wobbles when he walks, Deluge walks up to Virml and hands him his last goodberry.
"Here, idiot. Eat this if you don't want to collapse the next time you have to run away."
Deluge is feeling pretty smug about how he arranged to come through yet another combat unscathed.

The World's Most Interesting GM |

Just a quick post for now on the logistics of the situation and some things the PCs might consider. The party is a couple of blocks "off-campus", and then there is the matter of the size of the campus itself, and its numerous buildings, and the fact that it is close to 2 in the morning.

![]() |

”Lets go talk to the fish monster and see if we can talk her out of this mess now that we’ve found the culprit. Someone would lock us up if we Interrupted them before proper breakfast.”

![]() |

Pau's statement causes Deluge to reflexively feel for his snack bag, which, should anyone care, is becoming alarmingly flaccid. Which seems to happen all too often on a pathfinder mission. And, which is often the case, the exploration becomes something deeper and Deluge locates a chocolate covered almond which he diligently pops into his mouth and chews gustily.
Poor Virml, it will be oatmeal for him for a while.
"Indeed. Let us get this over with and we can all return to our meals."

Mistress Koi |

The troupe tromps once more through the foot-high waters of the library and up the showering stairs and through the rush of water to find Mistress Koi still lost in her dream dance. The fishy prima ballerina twirls about on her tentacle tips spraying water everywhere. She doesn't seem to notice the party's approach, until they are upon her.
Startled she croaks: "ਆਹ! ਤੂੰ ਕੌਣ ਹੈ!"

![]() |

Xusius bumbles forward while propelling the fox nearer the fish.
He states in Sylvan, "Miztrez Koi, we have returned and brought ze miscreant weeth us. Apparently he was trapped in ze scroll by First Lords and was releazed by acczedent. Zis fox is ze miscreant."
Xusius thinks the party should have went to Dean Shaine and Mistress Zarta instead, but this is what was set up.

Silly Disguise |

The prisoner steps forward, and smiles gamely.

Mistress Koi |

"Ĉu mi ne vidis vin ie antaŭe?" says the fish in Sylvan squinting all four of its eyes at the prisoner. "Mi konsentas. Kial vi povas diri, ke li estas krimulo nur rigardante lin. Nur rigardu tiujn du okulojn, kaj tiun rampan senŝanĝan karnon. Min ĝenas nur rigardi ĝin." She shudders.
"Ĝuste. Donu al mi la skribrulaĵon kaj ... ne, ne, diru al mi ... Mi havos ĝin nuntempe ... Er, um ... Kion mi denove faris?"

![]() |

Xusius translate for the party. "She needs ze pieces of ze scroll. Let us geeve zem to her zo we can zop ze flooding."

![]() |

Deluge grabbed the final piece from the desk before going if nobody else did and will dutifully yield up any fragments he has, then slips away to the rear, ready to slip away and go and fetch the dark tome as soon as the flooding stops.

![]() |

”Fox, do you have any other pieces of the scroll that we should know about? I don’t trust you to have have another one stowed away for an emergency.”

![]() |

Yangrit would happily give up all the scraps of scroll she was carrying if she had any, just to get over with this infuriating charade of a mission. She glowers at the fox from her spot by the stairs, impatient to get this part over with so she can be one step closer to getting dry, warm, and properly asleep in her own bed. In the meantime, her best bet is to make sure the fox doesn't escape, so she watches him like a hawk.

Silly Disguise |

Sighing the bound Pau pulls a scrap of parchment from his belt. "You can't blame a fellow for trying."

Mistress Koi |

The fish looks confused and then seems to suddenly remember. "Ho! Mi memoras nun! Jes, kaj vi eĉ bonfartis alporti al mi ĉiujn ses partojn de la enigmo!"

Silly Disguise |

"It's seven if you count the intro." says Pau's twin under his breath in response.

![]() |

Pau had never wanted to punch himself more than he did right now at this instance. And he’d even been magically confused a time or two.

Mistress Koi |

Translated from Sylvan by Xusius
"AH! There you are you malefactor!" cries the fish in a deep bass tone while pointing a tentacle. Well, alright then, with the scroll, and Whatshisface, and the command phrase, we're all set. Hold on a moment. There's a piece missing! I can't enact the spell without it!" She begins leaking water once more.

![]() |

Xusius translates the party's certain response to Mistress Koi.
"You gotta be effing kidding me!"

![]() |

Are we missing one that we found or was there one we have not found yet?
