Xusius

Xusius moves forward while making sure he stands next to Pau.
He speaks to whoever is impersonating Kreighton Shaine.
"Zou might as well give us ze rest of ze scroll, impostaire! Zou are ze one who impersonated Virml earlier. Now we zall put an end to zis farce. Both zou and zour Sir Crocodile zall not accomplish zour fiendish plot!"
He casts Enlarge Person on Pau.
"Attack ze crocodile, Pau!"
Deluge-Core
|
"Um, you absolutely sure about that?"
This could go very wrong. VERY wrong!
Deluge pops a whole handful of chewy dried fruit into his mouth - stress eating. Shane is NOT someone he has high on his list to antagonize.
Yangrit Foehammer
|
Yangrit stomps up the stairs, calling down to the others: "It is going south quickly up here. Hurry up, everyone!" She sidles into the room, slipping between Pau's knees. Of course he chooses to enlarge the man instead of me. If only I was a better swimmer, perhaps he would think I was just as capable!
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22
Does Dean Shaine look/act like the real Dean Shaine?
Once she's clear of Pau, and grateful that he doesn't wear a kilt, she addresses the occupants of the room. "Now, hold on. Maybe he is a doppelganger, or maybe he is not. So, Dean Shaine, how do you intend to prove to us that you are who you appear to be? ... Also, please explain the crocodile." She gives the oversized white reptile the side eye.
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27
To what extent does she believe his response?
| Dean Kreighton Shaine |
”Um, sorry, didn’t know you were working in here. Uh, nice view, eh,” Pau stammers as a large drop of blue ink falls from the bridge of his nose to the now colorful floor. ”I’m not good at the magic stuff, but either there are two Virmyl’s or one is an impersonator and I’m not sure which. One of you smart ones get up here and explain all this,” he barks at the others.
"Oooh-kay."
"Attack ze crocodile, Pau!"
"Hold that thought. I would like to hear from the others first." Shaine says and quickly casts a spell at the elf.
Xusius Will save (DC 17) or be paralyzed.
Does Dean Shaine look/act like the real Dean Shaine?
"Now, hold on. Maybe he is a doppelganger, or maybe he is not."
"Yes, maybe I am not. Perhaps I am a powerful Pathfinder wizard and loremaster, your immediate superiors, who is feeling a bit put out just now."
"So, Dean Shaine, how do you intend to prove to us that you are who you appear to be? ... Also, please explain the crocodile." She gives the oversized white reptile the side eye.
"What!? Did I not just say I was a wizard? We all have crocodiles, my dear. Granted not many are as impressive as this one, and most are um, dee ee aye dee, stuffed and hung from wires in our laboratories, but that's beside the point. It has been a very trying evening, and I would like to hear what you have found."
Pau
|
Pau waits for the spell to take effect. He wasn’t sure that a pathfinder leader would use a spell on their little group. Didn’t seem right.
Hannar the Wild

Listening from the back of the group, Hannar thinks to himself..."They do know he's a powerful Wizard, right? They better be right or we are all in deep trouble."...as he tries to figure out what spell was just cast....

A grunt escapes the dwarven woman. "Hmp. He seems like the real deal. So, Dean Shaine, where is the Virml we were all speaking to earlier? We found this toothless one locked in a birdcage in the basement. He seems hapless enough to be the real one, which would make the other Virml a potential threat. Oh, and a giant fish lady is spewing all the water so she can find pieces of that poem. We found some." As she waves for the guys to produce the scraps of parchment, the thought occurs to her that she probably should have brought along that darkness book, and mentally grumbles at the thought of having to dive back downstairs to get it.
Deluge-Core
|
I thought you did bring it along and stashed it in your backpack because it put the darkness effect out.
Yangrit Foehammer
|
D'oh! You're right. I remembered that wrong. Looking back, our GM clearly stated that the area got brighter when Yangrit put the darkness book into her pack. Now as to whether or not it is still legible after being submerged for so long, I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
Xusius
|
Xusius is apparently unable to speak. "..."
Pau
|
Pau was watching carefully. He’d still never heard of one of the head hooha’s casting a spell on one of the agents before. Maybe the elf was right, he thought, watching Xusius, noticing ne had stopped the spell he was casting on Pau.
Deluge-Core

Unconcerned about the motionless elf, Deluge chime in.
"Well, um, we gave away some of the fragments to the big fishy thing. It really, REALLY wanted to have them. We do have a piece left, though I at least was planning on handing it over to see what happens. I'm hopeful that once it has all the pieces it will swallow all the water and go away."

Was gonna tell you and then I realized Hannar would not have made it into the room to see. EDIT He could do it on a double move, but that would put Hannar in the front line of the group. Where he is at present is where he would have gotten with one move.

The book was on a shelf high enough to be dry when you found it. However, the party did not take it, because while the darkness could be dowsed by placing it in a closed container the book was magicked in a way so that it made sounds like a panicked crowd of torture victims every time that Yangrit (her clothing, gear, and the water around her) made a sound. The louder the sound the louder the voices.

Obviously Pau has never met Master of Spells, Aram Zey. ;)

"'Big fishy' thing you say?" he lets it hang. "And did your investigation shed any more light upon the fragments themselves?"
Bernard St. Ivre
|
"The fragments are all part of some sort of poem or riddle. But it seems as though whatever is written on the paper comes to life after it is read. It is like the entire archives are out of some sort of fairytale...it's a nightmare!" The ranger take a swig from his flask, really not knowing what to do with any of this information that is being shared around.
"Maybe you can take a look at the fragments we have, sir?" he offers as a passing suggestion.
| The World's Most Interesting GM |
Shaine beckons whomever has the pieces up to the desk.
The giant albino crocodile looks on with interest, but doesn't seem interested enough to eat anyone (yet).
The round passes, and Xusius can try to make the save again (Will DC 17). New round!
Pau
|
Sense motive 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14
Maybe he was barking up the wrong tree as none of the others in the group seemed the least bit worried. Pau tried to closely observe the fellow.
| The World's Most Interesting GM |
Sense motive (like Diplomacy) usually takes at minimum a minute of time to pull off under these circumstances, and because we are currently in rounds--due to spell slinging, I'm holding off on answering just now.
The giant, albino crocodile playfully thuds its heavy tail, tipping over a work desk.

The site's been a bit weird for me too the last couple of days.
This tracker is just to keep us moving since we are in rounds for now. No one has punched anyone yet--except perhaps Shaine magically incapacitating Xusius.

Bernard St. Ivre

Bernard nods at Hannar, "Indeed. Hey Virml, do you know our captain here?" hoping the pathfinder would have some memories of dealing with Shaine.
Otherwise, Bernard is very relaxed, and calm and has not drawn any weapons.
Deluge-Core

Deluge remains in his safe place out of view of the potential not-Shaine and quite leery of the croc, having just experienced how cranky a reptile can be. He decides to pray to Desna, the Goddess of Luck, feeling he might need a dose soon.

Shaine looks them over. "Hm, Yes."

Pau notes that the Master of Scrolls seems to have another portion of the scroll in the collection of damp papers and and arcane tomes spread upon the desk. He can see a bit of it sticking out of pile near the top.
Hannar moves into the room dragging Virml with him. "This is the guy we found downstairs locked up."
"Yes, of course, Virml." says Shaine as if discovering a hair in his soup. He very quickly moves on though. "Have any of you come to any conclusions about about the scroll, or its fragments, or how they might relate to the problem at hand?"
| The World's Most Interesting GM |
Shaine quickly glances at the scroll fragments presented to him before returning to his perusal of the other texts upon the desk. Delaying for more in-put.

Why does he seem to no longer be in such a rush to end this? Impatiently, Yangrit comments: "If you are finished looking at them, we should take them to the giant fey fish lady. That is the reason she is flooding the place: so she can find them more easily. We have reason to believe that she will stop once she has all the fragments, so we should deliver all of them to her as soon as possible."

”How did you get a fragment? Let one of our spellslingers take a look at your scroll. Maybe they can figure something out about it. Do you have any others?”

"It must have been in the pile of books and paper that was recovered earlier." says Shaine. "But certainly have a look perhaps your friends can make some sense of it."

"Interesting, Shaine how did you happen across that piece anyway?" he sighs, "They read as if there is an order to these exerts. Perhaps we can rearange them to make more sense?" he comments, without moving up in the room.

And there is that mention of a crocodile. A crocodile in the poem. And in this room!
While the others start rearranging the poem, Deluge offers a question.
"Say, Mr. Shaine, how did you come across that crocodile there anyway?"
Yangrit Foehammer
|
Yangrit's belief that this Shaine is the real Shaine is a fickle thing: reasonably assured one moment, quavering the next. She sidles along the wall of the room toward the desk, just in case the worst happens. It wouldn't do to be too far back to be capable of helping Pau.
| Dean Kreighton Shaine |
"Interesting, Shaine how did you happen across that piece anyway?"
"No doubt it was among the bits that Virml brought to the meeting."
And there is that mention of a crocodile. A crocodile in the poem. And in this room!
While the others start rearranging the poem, Deluge offers a question.
"Say, Mr. Shaine, how did you come across that crocodile there anyway?"
"I thought I explained that already. I am a 'wizard'. We all have alligators, or crocodiles." says the dean as if schooling a particularly slow student.

Pau is the only one in the party who can currently make out the new poem fragment (or even rearrange them without some form of telekinesis) as everyone else including those who could read it is about 30' away.

"But we've searched the entire archives, there is no where left to look. You're a smart guy, Shaine, how many more pieces do you think there could be?" He pauses, "Or where else do we look?"
Bernard gives details about all the locations they have scouted, before coming up here...
Pau
|
Pau takes a deep breath and hops to the top of the wizard’s desk. ”I might be drummed out of here if I’m wrong, but I’m pretty sure you aren’t the Dean,” he yells as he kicks out, trying to smack the ‘Dean’ in the head.

"Well, you only live once!" says Hannar the Wild, cackling with glee as he casts a spell.
Glitterdust. Will DC=12
Components: V, S, M (ground mica) Range: medium (100 ft. + 10 ft./level) Area: creatures and objects within 10-ft.-radius spread
Duration: 1 round/level Saving Throw: Will negates (blinding only) Spell Resistance: no Description: A cloud of golden particles covers everyone and everything in the area, causing creatures to become blinded and visibly outlining invisible things for the duration of the spell. All within the area are covered by the dust, which cannot be removed and continues to sparkle until it fades. Each round at the end of their turn blinded creatures may attempt new saving throws to end the blindness effect. Any creature covered by the dust takes a –40 penalty on Stealth checks.

Several things all happen at about the time.
First, Pau kicks the Master of Scrolls in the face sending him backward into the glass wall.
Second, Xusius launches a magical dart from his wand at the stricken Dean. *PEW!*
Third, magical pixie dust falls like rain upon the giant crocodile, just as the creature had closed its eyes--possibly for a rest. The noise at the front desk though instantly arouses its interest.
crocodile Will: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
