Yangrit Foehammer
|
Huffing with irritation, Yangrit grouses: "Well, if there is nothing in here, we may as well leave. It sounds like the kid is crying out there, anyway." She tromps toward the door, her sodden shoes squishing with each step.
It looks like we've cleared all the areas on this level. Is that correct, GM?

Xusius leans against the bookcase and ponders the situation.
"I zink we are meesing zomezing. Zis room had no water een eet, zo eef zomeone ees here, zey were here before ze big feesh started to flood ze library. Otherwize, ze water would be in here. Also, Virml was een ze office weeth us earlier. How deed he bypass us and go downstairs so quickly to be tortured?"
He looks up and at the rest of the party.
"Are zere two Virml's?"

He does find book written in Common called "Village Idiot's Guide to Translating Sylvan" among of series of similarly titled translation books.
Deluge gets excited. He always wanted to learn Sylvan. He nudges the book a bunch of times trying to indicate that he wants it.

Yangrit notices Deluge's interest in the Sylvan language tome. "Yeah, yeah, I thought about that too. It may help us understand that big fish upstairs. If I take it, though, it will get too waterlogged to read. Hey! Tall menfolk! Deluge here wants this book. You can keep it drier than I can. Who will carry it for him?"

It certainly appears that way. There is that room with a shadowy alcove and the book that makes you noisy....

Also, as a quick reminder, the last closed door you went through the lock on the door had been broken, while this one seems untouched. And then there is the monstrous assassin's heh (don't fret Hannar ;)) I mean the toothless Virml's statements translated on the discussion thread.
What would folks like to do?
Deluge-Core

Deluge continues his search, still looking for magic, but this time he starts climbing up the shelves (at least his front half), hoping that his bulk does not collapse the whole dang thing, still looking for something interesting. Though it is quite unlikely one of the poetic fragments managed to get up top.

Xusius insists there can't be two Virmls.
"One of zem must be an eemposter. I do not zink eet ees zis one down here. We should go back up prepared to deal weeth whatever eet ees."
Yangrit Foehammer
|
"Well, that is just great." Yangrit growls.
What's the plan, guys? We already rolled perception checks for this room, so it looks like we're done here unless we take 10 or 20.
Bernard St. Ivre
|
"Or they could be twins?" He comments at the possibility of there being two Virmls.
"Whatever the case, we should go upstairs and search the mezzanine and see if we can find the rest of the poem fragments up there. There is no point staying down here for much longer, otherwise Yangrit might drown." He jokes openly, hoping his dwarven friend won't take offence.
Let's go upstairs GM. :)
Pau
|
The group’s course of action decided, Pau opens the door yet again, letting the group out before trying to shut it again, hoping to keep the remaining books as dry as possible.

A sudden thought occurs to Xusius.
"Sacre bleu! Ze paracountess may be een danger! Ze imposter Virml ees zere! We must move swiftly!"
He rushes to the stairs leading up.
Yangrit Foehammer

Yangrit's eyes widen suddenly at Xusius's assessment. "Crud! You are right! Come on, boys! Hurry! Keep up with the croc!" She grips CrocoDeluge's tail tightly and takes a deep breath, just in case.

Deluge obediently follows with his rider though he may not be a 'gator for much longer. As soon as it get's dry again, he will probably turn back to good old Deluge, who misses his snack bag fiercely.

They climb the stair and arrive topside in the large central chamber soaked in seawater. To a cheering Owl.
| Mr. Owl |
"HAHA! I told you! Didn't I say!?" he cries to Albatross, while tugging on a line tied to the end of this spear.
Then Owl looks again and suddenly looks disappointed. "Oh its just them." he says and tosses down his makeshift fishing rod in disgust.
There's a roaring waterfall tumbling from the mezzanine above.
The water and debris in this chamber is like a shallow bog.
Yangrit Foehammer
|
"Who did you think it was?" Yangrit grumble-shouts above the roar of the waterfall.

Deluge, who was attempting to sneak up on the tempting morsels, is as disappointed as owl, but for a different reason, when they fly away.
"Must be the dwarf. Hard to sneak when you have a dwarf clinging to your tail!"
Though I'm betting Yangrit lets go once it gets shallow enough to stand in without drowning.
| The World's Most Interesting GM |
Maybe. Or maybe she's considering a new handbag and a pair of matching boots.
Where too? I know some folks wanted to visit the overflowing mezzanine.
Xusius
|
Xusius makes his way up to the mezzazine.
"Do not let zis Virml geet away. Let us see eef ze imposter ees up here first before we go to ze office."
Yangrit Foehammer
|
"Yes, apparently you have a doppelganger, and we do not know what its intent is. Stay close." Yangrit gripes as she ponderously slogs through the muck after Xusius.
Pau
|
Pau thought the group had a good idea. ”Bring them together and let them tell us what’s happened. And we can deal with the imposter,” he grumbled, quite tired of being dripping wet.

Deluge swings his head in a big nod and falls in for the confrontation, though he will find a location to wait where he can safely cast his call lightning spell from if things go south.
He preps by casting a Longstrider on himself, wondering why he waited so long to do so.
Is it dry where the other Yangrit is? Deluge intends on becoming human again and curing himself with his wand if it is.

I think you mean Virml, because two Yangrits--well, the idea is too terrifying to contemplate.
The first time the party met Virml (a Virml anyhow) he retreated upstairs from the lobby with an armful of soggy books to begin salvaging and/or copying. One would assume it would be dry there. So is that the plan, because Xusius just walked up the waterfall steps to visit with Mistress Koi?
| Mistress Koi |
Upon the mezzanine, the elf wizard finds Mistress Koi again pirouetting as if she didn't have a care in the world upon her tentacles to an heard and unseen orchestra while spouting water about in huge, well-choreographed jets from her body. She doesn't seem to notice him as he approaches.
Xusius

Would that upstairs area be where the stairs over on the left of the map go?
| The World's Most Interesting GM |
Yep. The same stairwell that Deluge had his rendezvous with Zarta in as well.
Xusius
|
Xusius looks around quickly. Seeing only Mistress Koi being over-exuberant with the waterworks for no good reason at all, he runs to the balcony and raising his voice, informs his comrades, "Mon amis! Ze eempostaire ees not up ere! We must go up ze stairs zat are een ze next room!"
He points to the west doors.
"We must move quickly!"
He then rushes to the stairs and descends down to the watery room and rushes towards the west doors.

Indeed, Deluge is, once again, Deluge and makes a bee line for his snack back, spilling a bit in his haste to snack and keep up at the same time.
Yangrit Foehammer

"Urrgh! I'm coming." Growling in frustration at the slow slog, Yangrit alters her course and heads back to dry land. That, at least, is a prospect that pleases her, though you wouldn't know it.

The party crashes through the empty lobby and up the stairs where they are confronted by a door on the second landing.
Given his exuberance, I am swapping up the marching order for a moment and putting Xusius up front. Feel free to rearrange as you like (Virml included).
Pau
|
”Get up here, Virmyl number two. We need to figure this whole thing out.”
If there was no one to pick the lock, Pau shuffles to the front and tries to knock the door loose.

Pau goes *POW!* The door flies from its hinges, into a stack of large ceramic ink pots stacked allong opposite wall. They topple and clatter in waves to the tile floor like an avalanche of melons in a marketplace, stippling Pau in a rainbow of vivid colors.
| Dean Kreighton Shaine |
"Come in. It's... open...." says the Master of Scrolls standing over a desk at the far side of the room. He doesn't look up.
As if on cue a second ink avalanche sends the few remaining stacked ink pots to the floor in front of the doorway.
"Mind the broken crockery." says the Dean after the last pot falls.

This large chamber is crammed with desks and lecterns designed for copying scrolls and manuscripts. Along the north wall, a tall, broad shelf sags with sheaves of parchment, while near the exit to the south, where a stack of ceramic ink jugs once stood near wall-mounted racks of quills. Two bays of windows on the west wall offer an impressive nighttime view of the Lodge’s greatest landmark, Skyreach Tower, while the eastern windows overlook the library’s main stacks. Overhead is a beautiful mural of Desna reaching out with one finger to probe a young gnome's ear.
A 14-foot-long albino alligator looks up at Pau from the floor with reptilian interest.
Pau

”Um, sorry, didn’t know you were working in here. Uh, nice view, eh,” Pau stammers as a large drop of blue ink falls from the bridge of his nose to the now colorful floor. ”I’m not good at the magic stuff, but either there are two Virmyl’s or one is an impersonator and I’m not sure which. One of you smart ones get up here and explain all this,” he barks at the others.
Pau ties a step back, pulls a kerchief and rubs his face, almost making a rainbow design on the cloth.

Waste of some good pots if you ask me.
But he makes no move to fall in and explain.
