Welcome to my recruitment thread for The Hollow.

Im recruiting 5-6 players to join me on adventuring in Darkmoon Vale.

The Vale is known for its large Fey filled Forest that has an abundance of Darkwood Trees, much prized for it's hard strong wood, It's Dwarven ruins, Kobolds, Werewolves, The Lumber Consortium, and. A Dragon deep in it's depths.

This will be an adventure starting at level 0 with an NPC class:

Adept, Aristocrat, Commoner, Expert, Warrior

Choosing your NPC class will determine which real class you can progress to after gaining 1000 experience points

Adept:any class with 6th level spells or above

Caster level will stack with the character class Adept 0 level and 1st level spells will be added to the spell lists of the chosen class. Adept skills will be made class skills.

Aristocrat:any class with 4d6 or 5d6 starting gold.

Skills become class skills

Commoner:any class that under age category can start with intuitive trained , self trained and the Monk.

Commoners start with 20+1d4 build points and 1 MW item handed down from a family member GP limit 350 gold.

Expert: any class with 6+ skill ranks per level us the Alchemist and Gunslinger.

Class skills for expert become class skills for the chosen class

Warrior: any class that has martial weapons to start with.

Class skills for warrior are class skills for chosen class.

The Crunch for the game:
1. 15+1d4 points
2. NO EVIL.
3. NO 3PP
4. Races: only Core races
5. Classes: All classes except Vigilante, Vampire Hunter, omidura We will be using the unchained versions of The Rogue, Barbarian, and Monk, Summoner
6. Max Hit Points for 1st level and you can roll for each level after. If you roll a 1 of 2, take 1 above half instead. You can always choose to take the 1 above half if you'd like.
7. Max starting Gold for the npc class
8. 2 traits
9. We will be using Background Skills
10. We will be using Hero Points
11. Power Attack, Deadly Aim, Combat Expertise, Scribe Scroll are free feats if you meet the prerequistes

If its not mentioned we wont be using it.

I ask that if you apply you commit to trying to post every day. I will do the same.

The Application: Unlike Many, I do not want you to create a character unless you are actually chosen.

All characters start having lived in The Vale for the last year at least.

What I want-
1. Character Concept- Name, race, class what makes the character stand out
2. What 2 traits you will choose.
4 what class direction you wish to take tentative
3. Why you are in The Hollow.

Doting. Will return soon with a concept application. :)

Excellent. If someone chooses aristocrat please note the character will be a noble whose on the run/exiled/out of favor from the family as the 'ONLY' power in Falcons Hollow ...is The Lumber Consortium...and Thuldrin Kreed

Question, in case it's a typo - everyone except commoners starts with 15+1d4 points, and commoners start with 20+1d4?

Silver Crusade

dot :)

I've got no idea what to submit, but I'm wondering about a (to be) sorcerer commoner

or an aristocrat (to be) eldritch Scoundrel rogue.

so many potential ideas, so much fun to be had! AH!

1d4 ⇒ 4

Correct. To offset the suck of a Commoner ;) they have to a cut above

Dotting in and then heading off to sort through the 47 1/2 character ideas I have :=)

Question: would weapon finesse also be on the "free feats" list or do you see it as still needing to be a skill gained through "training" (ie a feat)?

My d4 for ability points: 1d4 ⇒ 3

It needs to be trained...except rogue which gets it through unchained rogue ;)

Note I'll keep character applications open for 1 week. Until 10/12.

Silver Crusade

Yes, I think I've narrowed it down to either a draconic or fey sorcerer (commoner) who is completely unaware of his bloodline, who for most purposes, was someone extremely "common" (hah) perhaps a farmers boy, or a blacksmiths son.

OR, the exiled noble bastard son or daughter trying to survive off the pittance she was given before being sent away. As well as planning to regain her position within the family. Or, at the very least, make them sorry they ever exiled them in the first place.

so much potential! Even as I write this more ideas come to me. But These are the two that caught my interest first and foremost.

So many ideas, indeed.

Most likely going with a Human or Half-Elven Commoner, who grew up as a woodsman/lumberjack with a lean towards a profession as a Ranger.

1d4: 1d4 ⇒ 2
1. Character Concept
Name - Hudson Kane
Race - Human (Taldan)
Class - Commoner
What makes the character stand out - Hudson outward appearance is that of a big, tall mook; but possesses an intellect and personality that most people wouldn't expect.

2. What 2 traits you will choose
Child of Nature (Religion)
Fey-Wise (Regional)

3. What class direction you wish to take tentative
Rogue (Sylvan Trickster)

4. Why you are in The Hollow. Hudson has lived in or near Darkmoon Vale all his life. His father was a boy when his family moved into the area, wishing to take advantage of the logging boom. Both Hudson and his father are lumberjacks.

Oops forgot 1 thing. At creation no character can have under 8 in a single score

Big dot! I have an almost middle-aged somewhat fat cook that I'd love to bring here. He will be a commoner, probably going into brawler later - fighting with improvised pans and other kitchen utensils. Instead of a masterwork item, would it be okay for him to start with a Traveler's Any-Tool? For traits, I'm considering "Surprise Weapon", and probably something like "Cunning Liar".

Race: Human

Class: Commoner, likely going into Brawler (Hinyasi/Snakebite Striker)

Traits: Surprise Weapon and Cunning Liar

Why he's in Hollow? He's the village inn's cook. A commoner with nothing really special about him, other than a will to become a true adventurer like the ones he sees passing by the tavern where he works.

20 + 1d4 ⇒ 20 + (2) = 22

@Archlich-Did you reconfigure Kronk for this? Really enjoyed that character concept in the RotR recruitment thread! (I was Gheri)

Character Concept- Name, race, class what makes the character stand out?
Thallin “Thal” Braspur, human, commoner.
Thallin is a wanted criminal. He was an apprentice to a thief in Absalom and had gathered quite a good bit of wealth. However, his master reported him as the sole culprit in the thefts and he was chased from town as the local guard came after him he was in the midst of stealing some items from a local retired adventuring mage. The stolen items was the only objects of value he had with him, but something kept drawing him to them, and rather than sell them, he decided they must be kept. In actuality, the items are a conduit to a supernatural power which has now chosen Thallin as its vessel.
What 2 traits you will choose.
Vagabond child (region; urban)to get disable device as a class skill
Child of the Streets (social) to get sleight of hand as a class skill
What class direction you wish to take tentative
Occultist so that the items he stole (including the masterwork item) will become the implements to make him a D&D warlock type arcane caster (though I would not choose the patron for these powers, so that could be some fun GM choices for you if you want to go that direction)
Why you are in The Hollow.
Thal is in The Hollow laying low until the hunt for him (for his crimes in Absalom) dies down. While there, he is getting by with busking thanks to the masterwork lute he stole along with the other arcane implements.

EDIT: Just FYI, I might gender swap Thallin into Thallia. Still debating that.

20+1d4: 20 + 1d4 ⇒ 20 + (1) = 21
Character Concept
Name - Falwyn Hawksblood
Race - Half-Elf
Class - Commoner

What makes the character stand out - Falkwyn is fast and nimble, and a natural hunter, helping to provide food and furs for the town. He is loyal and clever, and very adventurous.

What 2 traits you will choose -
Child of Nature (Religion)
Elven-Reflexes

What class direction you wish to take tentative
Ranger, Archery- Combat Style

Why you are in The Hollow. Falkwyn and his human father moved into the Vale a few years ago when his elven mother died in some sort of raid on the settlement where they had been living. (Chosen Enemy) Neither likes to discuss it. His father is a lumberjack and talented woodsman, and while he has taught Falkwyn much of what he knows, he is dour and angry at the world, over-protective, and the two often clash over ideals.

Silver Crusade

is everyone just a filthy commoner?! *royal faint* haha.

Lumber and mining town. What do you expect?
...snobby. ;)

Edit: (Plastic Dragon, here) Actually, I think I'll put in a proposal for a wizard/adept instead. I'm seeing a bunch of agile/ranged types popping up. ;) In otherwords, kindly ignore my post above. I'll keep the alias for this game, but change what I'm doing.

Sorry for any confusion. LOL

15+1d4: 15 + 1d4 ⇒ 15 + (4) = 19
Character Concept
Name - Falkwyn Hawksblood
Race - Human
Class - Adept

What makes the character stand out? While less than impressive physically, Falkwyn is loyal and adventurous, very clever and quite opinionated.

What 2 traits you will choose?
Arcane Temper (Magic)
Student of Philosophy

What class direction you wish to tenatively take?
Wizard, probably Universalist (due to the nature of the setting)

Why you are in The Hollow? Falkwyn and his mentor, Alhdrent moved to the Vale a few years ago when the down-on-his-luck wizard was hired by the Lumbermasters (correct term?) for his help in divination spells and pest control around the mines and in dealing with the lumber itself. A bit drunk most of the time, Alhdrent often sends Falkwyn on errands that are intended for himself, and so the apprentice has become better known by the people in town than Alhdrent.

1. Character Concept- Name, race, class what makes the character stand out
2. What 2 traits you will choose.
4 what class direction you wish to take tentative
3. Why you are in The Hollow.

1Jediah Mountainstrong
1/2 Orc
Warrior
2
Log Roller
Sworn Enemy:Animals
3
Ranger
4
Background
Jediah is the son of Mertle, a seamstress and Momble Mountainstrong, an orc deserter who decided that living in the orc eat orc world of his tribe was way too much for him and vanished into the woods, eventually coming to the Falcon's Hollow, where he found out that tilling fields was less exciting but much more healthy then
running around screaming with an axe. Both eventually hit it off because so what if someone is a little greener than usual?
Jediah helped out in the fields some and that helped him get big and beefy, but after hanging out with some of the woodcutters, and the local folks who make charcoal for the village, decided to give it a try and found out he really liked choppin along with climbing in the forest and eventually became a junior lumberjack. He is rather bummed that his lumber axe
gets locked up when he isn't working but one has to do what Pa says.
Jediah does have a rather embarrassing secret, he is afraid of pigs. One day while working in the forest, a leaf covered man leaped out and said he was Mabrook, voice of the forest and he was darn tired of Jediah and his ilk coming in and making so much
noise. Jediah was about to laugh him off, but with a snap of his fingers, Mabrook summoned fierce battle pigs that chased Jediah
all the way back to the village. Every since that day, Jedah has prepared himself to fend off any wild pigs. he stays far away for any pig farmers because he swears that some of Mabrook's minions are lurking in the herds.

Liberty's Edge

Dotting in, I’ll probably submit tomorrow or Saturday.

1. Character Concept- Name, race, class what makes the character stand out
Straug Fireborn, Dwarf Warrior. Straug has been on his own since he was very young, in fact he isnt even sure Straug is his real name its the best approximation of what the townspeople could make of what he said it was as a toddler when they found him. He has spent hours exploring the forest looking for anything Dwarven and is obsessed with Dwarven artifacts, crafting, ruins, etc.
2. What 2 traits you will choose.
Life of Toil
Flame-touched
3 what class direction you wish to take tentative
Warpriest maybe with the Forgepriest archetype worshipping Angradd
4 Why you are in The Hollow.
Straug has lived in The Hollow most of his life, has last name being given to him by the town after being found as a small child amongst the remnants of a burned out dwarven camp (attackers unknown) by scouts plotting out expansion land for logging. Strangely he was relatively unscathed. While the people of The Hollow brought him back out of pity they havent dont much else leaving him to largely fend for himself from a very young age. Having picked up bits and pieces of his Dwarven culture and ideals from the few in town and those passing through he feels an affinity for the Dwarven divine as a way to reconnect with his lost heritage and family.

Ability Points: 15 + 1d4 ⇒ 15 + (4) = 19

Now for the full disclosure
While I have a long history of tabletop gaming (mostly D&D, Star Wars D6, and a few others) going back to my middle school days, Ive had little opportunity to do it into my 40s. As a result of COVID and the lockdown/quarantine in the country where I live I found myself at home A LOT and started a weekly game with my wife and kids (age 9-18). After looking at a few systems I fell in love with Pathfinder with its deep lore and amazing customization options. That being said 1e is like drinking from a firehose so I'm taking it slow and easy. We used the Beginner Box for our initial weekly game but I'm layering in some more complex concepts as we go or as they ask (my son asked about dual wielding for his Dwarven Warrior who is obsessed with poisons last week).

I realize 2e was out and getting started with 1e when there was a whole new system seems....silly but what can I say I wanted the firehose. So while I'm relatively new to 1e I read voraciously, I'm a quick study, and Ive been running weekly games for 6 months now. What you also get is someone who is literally posting for the first time in these forums under any alias with his first actual character conceptualized for himself in Pathfinder 1e and a whole lot of desire to make this awesome for everyone involved.

I've not played in a game starting like this before, but I think it's a good fit for an idea I used many years ago...

1. Character Concept- Name, race, class what makes the character stand out
Kara Barker, Human, Adept. As Kara has grown up she has helped out at the lumber camp where her parents work, preparing food, tending the injured and generally making herself useful. She has spent many hours at the Temple of Iomedae while waiting for her mother to collect supplies, and although she feels drawn to the devine, she's not yet convinced that Iomedae is the one she's drawn to.

2. What 2 traits you will choose.
Sacred Touch
Deft Dodger

4 what class direction you wish to take tentative
Probably Cleric, possibly oracle or shaman

3. Why you are in The Hollow.
Kara's father is a lumberjack and her mother is cook at one of the lumber camps. Kara and her mother often make supply runs to Falcon's Hollow, where Kara has found herself drawn to the Temple of Iomedae, where she was often found when it was time to return to the lumber camp.

so far it looks like this...

1. Plastic Dragon---Falwin Hawksblood Half-Elf Male(Commoner-Ranger)<Lumberjack at main Lumbercamp)
2. Rorek55----------?? probably Aristocrat
3. pippintook-------Thallin Braspur Human Male(Commoner-Occultist)<laying low>

7. Joker27----------??
8. Jedhed242--------Straug Fireborn Dwarf Male (Warrior-Warpriest) <??>
9. Andy Brown-------Kara Baker Human Female (Adept-Divine Character) <works at Main Lumbercamp>

I like what Im seeing. I will likely close applications by Monday Morning instead of waiting til next Thursday. Its already going to be tough to limit to 5-6 and no need to make it worse.

GMMichael wrote:

8. Jedhed242--------Straug Fireborn Dwarf Male (Warrior-Warpriest) <??>

Oof. Thanks for pointing out the missing element in my character story. If you dont mind I'll add it here?

Straug has never really felt part of the community so has not exactly assimilated. While certainly not a troublemaker it would be hard to assign him a profession. He has spent most of his time as an occasional bodyguard or a fill-in on the town watch. He is sought out when someone needs odd jobs done or an extra pair of hands. He tried a stint at being a lumberjack but was fired for wandering off and spending too much time looking for rumored dwarven ruins and scraping through dirt for dwarven trinkets. He sees paid work as secondary to his growing desire to understand more about his history and heritage and his 'long walks' through Darkmoon Vale.

Silver Crusade

OK, I think I've decided-

1. Character Concept- Name, race, class what makes the character stand out

Alexander Valindir, half-elven aristocrat. They stand out due to having rather lavish clothing and their striking appearance made more noticeable due to their dark violet colored eyes. People know him as a sociable, learned, mischievous individual. He arrived at falcons hollow no more than a couple years ago. Image for Sir Valindir.

2. What 2 traits you will choose.
Student of Philosophy (or clever wordplay,"bluff",)
Arcane Temper OR Heirloom weapon

3. What Class direction do you intend to take-
As of now, I'm planning to go down Unrogue (eldritch Scoundrel) into arcane trickster. However, I may go Unrogue (phantom thief)

4.Why you are in The Hollow.

He is here seeking answers to questions he would rather others not know and with goals he keeps to himself. He keeps a joking and cheery demeanor, but underneath burns a keen intellect and a highly driven ambition. Rumors abound about him being related to the daughter of a local seamstress and/or how he is an exiled noble of some royal house.

1. Plastic Dragon---Falwin Hawksblood Half-Elf Male(Commoner-Ranger)<Lumberjack at main Lumbercamp)
2. Rorek55----------Alexander Valindir Half-Elf Male(Aristocrat-Rogue) <tracing family member)
3. pippintook-------Thallin Braspur Human Male(Commoner-Occultist)<laying low>
4. TheWaskally------Hudson Kane Human Male(Commoner-Rogue)<Lumberjack at Main Lumbercamp>

6. Andrea1----------Jedediah Mountainstrong Half-Orc Male (Warrior-Ranger) <Lumberjack at main lumber camp>
7. Joker27----------??
8. Jedhed242--------Straug Fireborn Dwarf Male (Warrior-Warpriest) <wworks doing odd jobs>
9. Andy Brown-------Kara Baker Human Female (Adept-Divine Character) <works at Main Lumbercamp>

(I misspelled my char name, apparently. It's Falkwyn.)

Liberty's Edge

1. Character Concept- Name, race, class what makes the character stand out

Edward Palasade is a human adept who worships Pharasma and dedicates himself to the art of Harrowing. He was born in Olfden to a pair of merchants. His parents specialized in the esoteric and psudomagical area, Edward became enamored early in his life with fortune-telling and myths, he dreamed he might eventually help to direct those who could topple the logging consortium and instate a more benign regime, but never dreamed that he might be one of them himself. a few years ago he went back to his harrowing deck read his own fates and found that the time had come, he had a role to play in some prophecy at Falcons Hollow. So he packed his bags and took his life along with him across the Vale into the Hollow that had worried him so, assuming shortly when he read the fates again he would find his destiny, after the first few years serving as a fortune teller at Falcons Hollow he found he was sorely mistaken. it would be another 25 years of living in Falcons Hollow before he found his opportunity.

2. What 2 traits you will choose.
Harrow Chosen
Survivor

4 what class direction you wish to take tentative, I'd like to go either Witch Magus or Summoner depending on party composition as well as what happens in the first 1000 xp taking the Harrowing related archetype of whatever I chose. I also intend to take Occult Skill unlocks for

3. Why you are in The Hollow.
To find my perceived destiny.

Hi. I wasn’t sure about the concept at first, but liked your post. So, I started thinking about a character concept, and now I love 0-level concept and my character idea. Even if not selected, at least this was fun.

1. Cathoris Hill; human; adept. He is an awkward shepherd boy. who seems to enjoy talking to sheep more than the other people in town. Rumors say, however, the Hill family hasn’t lost a sheep in years.
2. I’ll go with Threatening defender and Blessed touch, which emphasize his care of the sheep.
3. Cathoris has grown up in the Hollow, the oldest son of the Hill family with numerous brothers and sisters. He spends his day tending the sheep, which suits him better than spending it with people, especially those guys cutting lumber.
4. Magus, staff magus archtype

Thanks for running this game!

1. Character Concept- Name, race, class what makes the character stand out
Loni of the Red Lantern is a human(female) aristocrat who will become an evangelist cleric of Calistria. What makes her stand out is she has left home over a year ago to be a holy servant of the book of joy and is an escort at a fine tavern called the Red Lantern. She will be using luck domain to buff and the variant channelling rule for luck. Going to use the first level feat to grab a wasp familiar and then an improved familiar at 5/7 the bonus feat will most likely have to be selective channel.
2. What 2 traits you will choose: reactionary, dangerously curious
Going with a whip and a longspear
Skills: perception, bluff, perform, use magic device

Is unchained monk a possibility for the commoner?

Edit: assuming it is.

What I want-
1. Character Concept- Name, race, class what makes the character stand out

Human, Danibis Fuller, Commoner (laborer)

Danabis Fuller is the son of a son of a logger, and is... unsurprisingly a logger himself. Big, burly and brutish, Danabis is often in trouble due to his short temper and love of fighting, yet inside he's a decent enough guy. He secretly longs for adventure and excitement over the dull drudgery of his daily life, and even more secretly believes, after some stories he heard from his grandfather, that his blood holds some secret power, some scaly power.

2. What 2 traits you will choose.

Axe to grind and Seeker

4 what class direction you wish to take tentative

Unchained monk would be preferred, draconic style and grabbing some firey ki powers later on.

3. Why you are in The Hollow.

Third generation logger, the hollow is his home.

Yes id allow that in this characters case. It would make sense. What is this characters name?

NPC classes don't start with Feats, correct? Also, I'm nudging my commoner over to expert, since that applies to rangers with all their skill points. Didn't want to be gaming the system with commoner stats and mw weapon AND the skill points. Keeping the +1 I rolled to go with the 15 build pts.

sure they do. 2 at first for a human

realizing starting Gold isnt list for NPC's This will be the guideline for starting equipment

Commoner: 25 Gold + MW Item of 350 or less.

Character Concept- Name, race, class what makes the character stand out
Losk Wurmgundur, a Dwarf Adept from Taggoret, Currently he is an apprentice Prospector working for his father and tasked with inspecting tunnels for mining viability as well as assessing cave-in damage, though he is more interested on surveying for future eruptions in Droskar's Crag. He dreams of joining the prestigious Blue Warders, the famed Librarian order in Tar-Kazmukh (though his father dismisses the notion).
He's also physically fit because of his occupation (will have a melee component to his build, possible dwarf weapon use as well).

Howdy. Have a player who dropped do to health reasons. Is there someone on the horizon whod like to join.

The party is 2nd level (1st in their NPC class and 1st in their character class. They are about 650 away from leveling to 3rd. In the middle of Hollows Last Hope.)

The person dropping was running a 1st Expert/1st Ranger

the rest of the party is

1st Commoner/1st Brawler
1st Commoner/1st Occultist
1st Aristocrat/1st Rogue
1st Warrior/1st War Priest
1st Adept/1st Magus

eager to replace the person quickly.

interested, though I've run the module as a GM a few times.

I do have a character idea that was in other games that all unfortunately died, and since your all level 2, could I request the use of the 3.5 template with a LA of +1 that was used for the idea to give that character another go.

I am assuming build points are referring to point buy...

Hey guys, I am throwing my hat in the ring for this one - I have an idea and a concept: an half-orc living mostly on the fringes of Falcon’s Hollow, perhaps with family ties to the village itself but living somewhat estranged from them. A sort of a mix between that hermit that comes into town every once in a while to get supplies and sell furs, with an unspoken protector of the people and the region. Half wild, half strange, but good at heart.

1. Character Concept - Do not have a name yet, but half-orc bastard son of someone in Falcon’s Hollow, wild and strange to most. A staunch ally of those who gain his trust. Survivalist. He stands out because even in such rough country, he stands out as gruff.

2. What 2 traits you will choose - I am going with Fate’s Favored and for the second one I am still digging around for a thematic option (he believes it is his duty to protect the land and the people) - after all he is covered with tattoos and does not even know why. And his mother (or father in town) are not sharing anything...

4 what class direction you wish to take - Also a bit up between two options. Either Inquisitor Sacred Huntsmaster (mixes well the idea of divine inspiration with the wild side, and I love the idea of having an animal companion) or Cleric with Evangelist archetype, which feels like a solid mechanical choice for the group (with his inspiring words about nature and the purity of survival in the wild). Any suggestions? I like them both, but perhaps the Inquisitor more, because he has more skills.

3. Why you are in The Hollow - Kind of a mix of ‘all the above’ I guess. I can see him as a part of the Fangwatch (Not a huge fun of tight clothes for the aesthetics :D) or Aspodell rangers.

Let me know if these concepts make sense, and I will crunch something more concrete.

RHG.- Tell me more about what youre thinking?

Albion what npc class would you take for the level 1? remembering Adept keeps caster level at 2. Expert adds class skills. warrior adds martial weapons and armor. aristocrat...well adds a lot of most things. Commoner gets boost in stats.

for the record. Ive already changed a bit of Falcons Hollow's area and altered the true nature of the disease they are trying to cure. So anyone having played it will have a few surprises.

I have all the modules planed up through about 12th level and there are some surprises.
