Hello!
So I am still fairly new to Pathfinder as this is only my 3rd character roll. But what I like to do when I am newly introduced to a game is take more complicated routes than the norm so I can learn the game faster.
As such, I am creating a possibly odd combination: A Samurai Warforged.
My idea for this character is that he was an ancient relic that was discovered by a traveling merchant or an archeologist and was given as a gift to a man or family of superior influence. The Warforged is cleaned up, repaired and taught the ways of the family and charged with the purpose of protecting this noble's daughter as a samurai. Tragedy strikes and the family is wiped out or phased to another plane of existence leaving the Warforged and the daughter to fend for themselves. They will eventually meet up with my gaming group (to which I have no idea who they will be).
Now that you know why this robot with no self-purpose is a samurai that usually requires a lot of self-purpose, we can continue.
While researching warforged stats and traits, I saw you could make your first feat Advanced Construction which would give you a skin of either adamantine, cold iron, darkwood or mithral. It also makes it sound like whatever you pick for your advanced construction feat is the material you use for a free set of armor you get as a warforged. But on top of that, a perk to the warforged is that the armor they are granted is considered weightless as far as encumberance goes. Does that also apply to AC and Dex penalties and bonuses? And if it does apply penalties, would it then make the most sense to go with mithral over adamantine for armor since a medium set would be considered light and a light set would be considered armorless. While on the side of the advanced construction; does the material he is made out of encumber or add penalties to himself depending on what it is?
Also, if I have something completely wrong in this discription, please correct me.
The other main question I had was about weapons for him. as a samurai and being able to use the integrated weapon trait and being proficient at all japanese style weapons, would I be able to wield a katana in my main hand while also using a wakizashi in my off hand and get away with not taking the feat "Exotic Weapons"? I understand i'll need two weapon fighting in order to not take huge penalties to fighting... but is a katana with one hand even possible without the other feat?
And lastly, a minor question. More of me looking for your opinion. But Samurai receive a free mount starting out; either a horse or a camel. awesome, thats great and all.. but i like more interesting visuals for mounts. like tigers, or rinos, or an elephant. But when I think about a big metal samurai on anything but a horse or a mechanical mount, it just feels so wrong. so what living mount or alchemical mount would you guys suggest for later on in my adventures?
Also if you have any other observations or concerns about this build that I may not have forseen, please feel free to let me know. I'd rather not find out something is horribly off in the middle of my campaign haha.
Another piece of information is that my DM is pretty liberal with how he runs things. so a warforged being in pathfinder is alright with him, and as long as i have reasonable purpose for anything that I would be putting in or taking out, he usually allows it.
Thanks for your help in advanced!
