Sorry for the delayed post over the week-end. Election Sunday in France and I got asked to run a poll station all Sunday. Finished later than planned and went straight to bed. This will repeat next week-end I fear.

Sorry, élections day yesterday in France. I got asked to run a poll station all day and didn’t have time to post. I will follow up and post today. I’m expecting things to be the same next week end.

Hi again,

I've done most of the work for my elven Witch : you will find the alias here Hypatia Mouseion a.k.a. Madam Tia

Still missing is her spellbook and about half the background. I also still have 15 000 GP left to spend. I will also reorganize the character sheet for skills and spells for ease of use.

If any of you see anything game breaking, please tell me and I will alter the character accordingly.

Not Memorial Day here. But I’ve been sick and stuck in bed. I will try to post later today.

I am considering applying for this game. I've had a few game starting with high level characters but none of them went very far.

Str: 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (1, 5) + 7 = 13
Dex: 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (6, 4) + 7 = 17
Con: 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (6, 6) + 7 = 19
Int: 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (5, 6) + 7 = 18
Wis: 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (1, 3) + 7 = 11
Cha: 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (4, 1) + 7 = 12

With those stats, I'm thinking about going for an elven Witch or Wizard.

Dice Pool 24d6 roll: 24d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 1, 3, 2, 6, 6, 6, 3, 2, 5, 5, 2, 1, 6, 2, 2, 6, 4, 4, 4, 4, 5, 4) = 89
Reroll: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 6) = 10

6: 6
5: 3
4: 7
3: 2
2: 6

Str: 4+4+3=11
Dex: 6+6+6=18
Con: 6+4+4=14
Int: 6+4+4=14
Wis: 6+5+5=16
Cha: 5+4+3=12

Thanks for your quick reply. My idea for using a gunslinger was to use the bolt ace archetype that turns the gunslinger into a crossbow specialist, so no gun or gunpowder for the character.
The gunslinger class is just a way to make a dual-crossbow wielder.

Everything that would refer to guns in the gunfighter SOM or in the Cutting Blur that you just provided would be adapted to crossbows. Would that fit with your vision of the world?

that would also work.

Thanks, I will work more on the concept/background based on that and come back to you if I have any other questions.

use this

I'm getting some of the additional archetypes from Library of Metzofitz. There's some additional third party stuff that doesn't seem to be on the spheres of power wiki -- I'm just finding it by googling, it's not clear to me how to find it by just looking under the likely categories from the homepage, they've all been on weird subpages.

For the gunslinger issue, Greyhawk did have the Barrier Peaks (though that was like pew pew laser guns), and there's not 1 version of the world, and, as I mentioned, I'm going to be doing some homebrew as well. Still, I'd want some more information on the flavor -- I'm thinking more something like this than wild west six shooters.

I just saw that HPs and station were rolled. Here are my rolls:

HP roll: 3d8 ⇒ (8, 1, 8) = 17

station roll: 2d4 ⇒ (4, 1) = 5

Thanks, I have now created an alias for Issam ibn Walid

I still need to figure out his HP, his station, add in some personality and a little more background on his children. I will also need to finish his equipment and choose his spells.

Two questions:
1) What do I use for starting gold ?
2) From what I've seen, the other players have around 7600 XP. If I start with this amount, Issam should be 4th level but I have only created him as a 3rd level. Do you use different XP tables like in AD&D2 rules or do all the PC have the same level?

Good idea. I will read about Afyal and change my background accordingly. Is your family only elven or has your mother also married humans?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I've done a lot of reading and I was thinking of playing a human nomad minstrel going from city to encampment collecting stories and songs.
He would still be a mystic with loose ties to Bala of the Tidings.
His family long ago escaped the City of Mahhaba and joined the House of Hanif where they have maintained their faith in Bala.
Unhappy with the troubles brewing in the tribe between the two sons of the
Sheikh, he has left the tribe and made his way to the north, on the guise of furthering his knowledge. But he is looking for a place where his remaining family (he has two daughters and a son and some grand-children) could settle and be safe.
The character would be middle age (about 55).

Would the sketch of background work with the story you have in mind? I can make any changes necessary.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Hi, I will need a little more reading on Arabian nights and my AD&D2 are seriously rusted (my last 2e game was in 96 I think....) but I would be interested to play a Mystic Cleric.

And because I like singing and find oriental music fascinating, my first thoughts are to go for a character that recieve spells through singing.

I will do some more reading in the next days if that's fine and flesh out a proposal.

Characteristics:

5d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 2, 5, 6) = 1916
5d6 ⇒ (3, 1, 3, 6, 5) = 1814
5d6 ⇒ (4, 5, 6, 6, 3) = 2417
5d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 2, 5, 6) = 2316
5d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 4, 3, 5) = 2215
5d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 1, 6, 5) = 1916

Thanks for letting us know. Have a good game everyone.

Sorry, I forgot to add that the chronicle was ok from my side as well.

Thanks

Ok, background is finished.

My application as Wolf Heart is now complete.

Thanks for your consideration.

I still need to finish the last part of the background and his arrival to Solanthus but I should have it done tomorrow. I wanted to check if the concept was in line with what you envisaged for this game. I have also created a Forestmistress as a pendant of the Forestmaster the appears in Dragons of Autumn Twilight. I hope this is all right with you.

Waves his arms.

The link to my character is in my previous post. I will finish my background in the next few hours.
Thanks ,

I read the Dragonlance novels when I started playing D&D (that was in the Ad&D2 times...) and played my first D&D game as an Irda Mage. I would love to play in the setting again.

Irda allowed here :( but I'm thinking of applying with a Kagonesti Druid.

3d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 4, 5) + 6 = 18 15
3d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 3, 5) + 6 = 15 14

Thanks for opportunity as well as the review and discussion about the submissions. Have fun with this game, it is a awesome setting.

@Arbiter of the Tower Just to let you know I've updated Imara with a couple of paragraphs on appearance, personality and some minor possible changes to the build. Good luck to do you selection.

Hi,

Please, meet Imara She is a Mbamba Monk 8 Sorcerer 1.

I am very intrigued by your setting and I have taken sometime to think about the world to propose a character with a good motivation to enter the tower. I have finished the background and most of the character sheet, missing mostly equipment and magic items. I still have to work on the appearance and personality but they are already suggested in the background. I will work on those parts in the next days.
As for Imara, she is a monk following a Lion Spirit Totem. I have build her with powers to be big and strong as a lion, able to take down prey and grapple as one. Slow to start but quick on the move.

Can you have a quick look and tell me if the character background and motivation fit with your vision of the world ?

Same for me. Have fun everyone.

Here is Sahira, a hound-sized rainbow colored card throwing fortuneteller crow or in more prosaic terms an Alebrije Greater Witchcrow Witch (cartomancer) 5.

All the information are in the linked alias.
I haven't put in the list of spells in her Spellbook yet and some equipment is missing and will depend on the final background adjustment if the character is selected. @GM Monster, please tell me if anything seems off or problematic.

NB: Alias picture is not contractual :)

After a first pass through possible monsters, I'm thinking about a Greater Witchcrow Witch with an added template (either half-celestial or Fey Creature).

I will look into it this week-end for more details but one thing that would make sense from the character point of view would be to have the bonded witch archetype that replaces the witch familiar with a bounded item. I see that as the crow being in a way its own familiar.
This archetype is normally reserved for half-elves. Would you allow it?

Thanks. It works fine now.

Hi, I recently started a game with a Nymph PC but that game fell through because our GM had IRL issues. I found the concept very interesting.
I'm thinking about submitting a Monster here and I wanted to have a look at the rules for character creation. However, I could not open your google doc document in your GM Monster alias. Am I missing something ?

Thanks for the reply, GM. I will do exactly that.
If I have to bring another one, it will be a level one anyway.

Thanks for selecting Osna. I’m looking forward to playing in Hearth.
As a note, today and tomorrow will be quite busy with the new year plus one of my daughter ´s birthday. I will be able to post more on Saturday.

Thanks a lot for telling us that.
It takes a lot more to run a game than to play in one, so thanks for all the work you've put in this game and in all your other games.

I wish you all the best for this year's end and next year.

Hello again Miner,

I've worked on my application for your game and here is Osna, the Eldritch scoundrel Sylph rogue that I am submitting.

I still have a few pieces of background to put in place (goals, secrets and quirks as well as his appearance and personality) but the history and allies/enemies sections are finished. I will be done tomorrow and will let you know when it's the case.

I've introduced a few characters of importance in the city of Hearth. I'm fine with altering them if they do not fully fit in the setting.

Miner Cotren wrote:

Llaelian,

Yes, I certainly think it could! :) I'd be interested in what sort of spells you might be gravitating toward -- since one current player is roughly evocation and with a little transmutation (so big damage spells, some str-based damage, and he does some self-transmutations), I'd be interested to see what areas you are leaning toward.

Thanks for the reply, I'm working on the background of the character in that regard.

I will be leaning towards illusions spells, with a few conjuration and evocation spells, but will see when I get the last screws in the character build.

Hi,

I find you universe fascinating, especially all the specific characterization of the elemental races and the way they play together. I've read through some of it and would be interested to join.
I have a few questions concerning arcane magic and the possibility to learn it. I have in mind a concept of a sylph rogue specialized in breaking into the estates of the wealthy and selling the proceeds to feed his people in one of slums. I will need to do more reading to expand on that but I was thinking about him having arcane magic at his disposal.

Looking at the classes I would like to use Unchaine Rogue with the Eldritch scoundrel archetype (that would give him Magus like casting powers). I also have ideas on how to have the character discover its magical talents and on how to make the character work for the authorities if your campaign asks for it.

Does that kind of character fits into your campaign?

I’ve been sick the whole weekend. Should be able to post tomorrow. Sorry for the delay.

Thanks Jacob for running the game, that went smoothly with lots of time for character interactions. The chronicle sheet looks fine to me.

I enjoyed the game a lot both for the roleplay aspect between characters but also for the trial structure where I had a blast trying to figure out solutions.
So thanks every one for that game and I'll be thrilled to play again with any of you in the near future.

First thanks for the game. I'm having a lot of fun going through it.

If I understand correctly with this scenario we get 8 days or less of downtime ? So that means one roll to Earn Income ?

Or at last resort, if you have a few that are equivalent, you could randomize the selection as well :)

Hi,

Here is the link for Aurorae, my half-janni nymph. The character sheet should be complete except for the equipment. Do not hesitate to tell me if something is missing.

RHMG Animator wrote:

If you look at Full Janni's stats;
Str +6, Dex +4, Con +2, Int +4, Wis +4, Cha +2
and divide by two and round down to the nearest even number you get
Str +2, Dex +2, Con +0, Int +2, Wis +2, Cha +0.
So they match mechanically with the template

Also Beauty is Not really completely tied to Charisma as player's think it is,
as the Old AD&D Unearthed Arcana actually introduced a 7th stat, comeliness, that represented a character's Beauty/Looks.
So while a half-janni (human) can be more beautiful then a normal human with the same starting stats even though Cha does not change.

if the majority of selected players opted for adding in that 7th stat along with the rules and system for that stat, then I'd work on setting values to things.

And Beauty really can be a curse, in may ways like; a higher value target for certain underworld businesses, jealousy in other women causing big issues, and there are more examples out there.

Thanks for your quick reply.

I didn't have any issue with the way you've built the template and the stats.
My question was really more on your vision of the world to be sure I was going in the right direction.
And I agree with you that charisma is not purely about appearance. My take is that it is more linked to how strong your personality is.

So I'll keep on working on background and personality as i had planned. Thanks.

Hi GM,

Thanks for putting up all the templates. I've got a question about the half-janni one as I am thinking as my character background and fear. From the description in the Companion "Quadira Gateway to the East", they are described as exotic and beautiful human-looking creatures.

I was thus planning to build on the addition of the surnatural beauty of the nymphs and that of the janni mashed together being a curse for my character in her relations.

However, looking at your template, I saw you went for more intelligence and wisdom than charisma. Was this choice reflecting a different take for the half-janni in your world or can I keep with the lore as described in the book?
Thanks for your help.

Hello,

Here is my proposal for race, class and template

Race/class : Nymph
I did not find the nymph in the dreamscarred press monster classes. Could you indicate your source for it?

I was also looking for the Huldra and did not find it either.

1) Beauty and brain
2) The Mountain
3) Air
4) Chaotic
5) Sloth

So we have a Half-Janni Nymph

Half-Janni is powerful, so only 10PB for stats

Thanks a lot, this looks just like the type of nymph I had in mind: an aurae , a breeze nymph from the greek mythology, daughter of Boreas the north wind.

Both class picks and questions get done at the same time.
As both going together can yield a more interesting character.

@Llaelian
The Nymph and Huldra monster classes were in the Beta version of Monster classes.
I'll let you look over the two monster classes and let you confirm your choice of monster class, or race and class picks.

I've never tried to play a monster class and I'm guessing there can be balance issues with them. I'm willing to try for a Nymph.

If I'm selected and there are questions of balance, we can always power down some of the abilities (the stunning glace for example look a little too much, being at will).

Technically, you do get your free faction boon, which now is one that gets slotted for everyone. (Let me know if you need an explanation on that, as I think you said this is your first PFS experience.)

Yep, I'm all new to this. I've read the part about the initial free faction boon. But it still lists a value for the "Horizon Hunter Champion" boon. So I'm not 100% clear with it.

If I understand correctly, I can get that Boon for free and it is automatically slotted. Then with the Reputation/Fame you gain, you can buy other boons along the way, depending on your faction and your tier.

Thanis Callabad - Human telekineticist 3 - Cleric VMC

Abraham Darkson - Stalker 3 - Rogue VMC

Kerwin OneEar - Grenadier Alchemist 3 - Wizard VMC

I believe these are all the currently complete applications? If I have missed anyone, do let me know.

I think the player of Thanis Callibad said he was dropping from the game. Post in question. You may want to check with him/her if he/she's still in.

Hi, I'm interested in the setting and the gritty survival game. I'm thinking about playing a rogue born and bred in Harper's bay. I've got an ideas for playing a rogue using both the roofs and the waterways to escape detection and commit her crimes. Would you mind having the character be an undine with a swim speed (i.e. the ability to move around easily in water?)
