I haven't. The last PFS adventure I played was 1st Edition. :)
Also, I had no idea the game had started. I didn't see a link to the Gameplay thread, but realized I could follow the tabs up top. I'll catch up and post something shortly.

I know several of you have slotted the Legacy of the Gorget boon, but let me know if there are any other boons you're slotting.
Also a final reminder that you have one (or more, for a couple of you) Hero Point you can spend!

Technically, you do get your free faction boon, which now is one that gets slotted for everyone. (Let me know if you need an explanation on that, as I think you said this is your first PFS experience.)
Yep, I'm all new to this. I've read the part about the initial free faction boon. But it still lists a value for the "Horizon Hunter Champion" boon. So I'm not 100% clear with it.
If I understand correctly, I can get that Boon for free and it is automatically slotted. Then with the Reputation/Fame you gain, you can buy other boons along the way, depending on your faction and your tier.
motteditor RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16 |
Correct: The first Faction Champion boon you select is free, but if you wanted to slot another one, you'd have to pay the cost. (I don't know that I've ever seen anyone do that.)
(Though I think they're doing away with Fame; I'm still not 100 percent sure myself how that's working, but I'm keeping my eye on it).

At 1st level, you can prepare two 1st-level spells and five cantrips each morning from the common spells on the divine spell list in this book (page 309) or from other divine spells to which you gain access.
I don’t think your interpretation of divine spell casting is correct, Nurten. It’s different from spontaneous casters.
motteditor RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16 |
I think Nurlen is correct.
At 1st level, you can prepare two 1st-level spells and five cantrips each morning from the common spells on the divine spell list in this book (page 309) or from other divine spells to which you gain access. Prepared spells remain available to you until you cast them or until you prepare your spells again. The number of spells you can prepare is called your spell slots.
So unlike spontaneous casters -- who always have the same spells they can use -- you can pick your cantrips and 1st-level spells each morning from the common divine spell list. You have the 1st-level spells available until you cast them or prepare your spells again (vs. spontaneous casters who have X number of slots each day and can use those on any combination of the spells they have access to).
However, guidance is a cantrip.
A cantrip is a special type of spell that doesn’t use spell slots. You can cast a cantrip at will, any number of times per day. A cantrip is always automatically heightened to half your level rounded up—this is usually equal to the highest level of spell you can cast as a cleric. For example, as a 1st-level cleric, your cantrips are 1st-level spells, and as a 5th-level cleric, your cantrips are 3rd-level spells.
So you can pick any five cantrips from the common divine spell list and then cast them as often as you want until the next time you prepare your spells and pick new (or the same, if you want) cantrips. As a bonus, when you get to be higher level, your cantrips become more powerful automatically, but you can still cast them at will.

Well, fiddle sticks. I just read up on it some more and found THIS passage.
You can cast a cantrip at will, any number of times per day.
In my defense, I think that it's a bit unclear the way it is written that you choose 5 TYPES of cantrips and can cast them in an unlimited number of times during the day, while you choose all of your other spells and you can only cast them a NUMBER of times a day as per Table 3-9, and yet both types of spells are represented in that chart the same way (and that Table is entitled: 'Cleric Spells per Day'.
Oh well, my mistake! Nurten, GM - thanks for that!
Orla Pfeffenpfoffer |
My mistake - again - about the heightened version of zenith star and yes, I was hoping for the tracking ability for the next day lest we get lost, not the visual impairment effect.
Oh well, moot point. Thanks anyway!

Quick rule question : is it possible to use a hero point for another character ?
Other point, my parents are visiting for the week-end so my posting will be limited until Monday.
motteditor RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16 |
Unfortunately, no:
You can spend your Hero Points in one of two ways. Neither of these is an action, and you can spend Hero Points even if you aren’t able to act. You can spend a Hero Point on behalf of your familiar or animal companion.
• Spend 1 Hero Point to reroll a check. You must use the second result. This is a fortune effect (which means you can’t use more than 1 Hero Point on a check).
• Spend all your Hero Points (minimum 1) to avoid death. You can do this when your dying condition would increase. You lose the dying condition entirely and stabilize with 0 Hit Points. You don’t gain the wounded condition or increase its value from losing the dying condition in this way, but if you already had that condition, you don’t lose it or decrease its value.

Have fun, stay safe!

Quick question. You say the map has been updated. Is that available for us to see? I can't figure out how to access it, although I'm probably missing something obvious.
Elanna Elthiel |
Go to the top of the page: just above the tabs with Campaing Info, Gameplay, etc, there is a link called map.

Hey all, congratulations on your race victory! We're all done except for just wrapping up the final night role-playing.
You'll have some downtime after the scenario. Most use that to Earn Income but you do have other options. Read more here if you have questions (or feel free to ask them here). If you do plan to Earn Income, please give me your rolls here. I should have your chronicles done, and the game reported, in the next couple days, as we finish up the role-playing.
Orla Pfeffenpfoffer |
Orla will use Library Lore once returned to Kalsgard to make some money scribing.
Earn Income (Library Lore): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
Orla will use her Halfling Luck here ('cause she failed that check).
Reroll: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18 Yeah!
Elien Psirec |
This is new to me, but I think I understand the mechanics (thanks for the link). Elien will focus on a bit of Crafting to Earn Income, using his Alchemical Crafting feat to produce and sell some very minor alchemical items (like tindertwigs) for the Ulfen people of Kalsgard.
Earn Income (Crafting): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
So, being trained, I believe that nets Elien 4 sp?
Elanna Elthiel |
Elanna will stay around and use her scouting lore to escort some travelers back to the south.
earn income (Scouting Lore): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
Anders Bekk |
Anders attempts to gather some mosses and ferns to sell to apothecary.
Lore (Cave): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
Thanks very much for the game, GM! And thanks to the players for a great group!
motteditor RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16 |
Correct, Elien: You're trained, and you got a success, so that's 5 cp. Multiply that by 8 days and you're at 4 sp.
Everyone (except Nurten, since I'm still waiting on his downtime) can find their chronicles here. Please let me know if you have any questions/concerns about them.
I'll do the official reporting as soon as I get Nurten squared away.

Thanks, Jacob. I downloaded the chronicle so I'd have the PDF copy. Not sure what to do with it. Are we expected to print these off and take them to future in-person games, or just hang onto them as a historical record indicating what boons we earned, etc.?
Setting that aside, this was a fun game. Probably the best PFS game I've done, because I can get in character a lot more easily via Play-by-Post more than in-person. And I feel like I can do more character development that way than the organized play events at conventions and such.
If you run another game in the future, be sure to let me know. I'd enjoy continuing with Elien a bit longer. :)

I typically download the chronicles and hoard them away in a folder. I have yet to ever have anyone ever ask to see my chronicles, but I think technically you're supposed to have them with you if you ever play. Obviously that's easy to do in person.
Also, while some of the Season 1 chronicles have boons, Paizo seems to be going to more of an ACP system (which I forget what it stands for: something something points). If you go to the Organized Play tab, you can click over to the boons, and you'll see where you can buy them. (I haven't reported this game yet, so you may not have any, but they get added for every PFS game you play/GM, with a bonus for games that are during cons, like this one was.) That system is -- from my understanding -- replacing Fame in the previous system (and early in the 2e version).

I'll definitely run some more games. My Bounty is officially out tomorrow, and I definitely want to run it. Just not quite sure when my schedule will allow. Hopefully post-election.

Very much enjoyed this game and with such luminaries! Kudos on all of the writing credits.
I do love PbP for roleplaying abilities. My favourite group has had a recurring bash with some of our favourite characters for three years going. Such fun...

Looks good, thanks very much!
Excellent game, excellent group.

Thanks Jacob for running the game, that went smoothly with lots of time for character interactions. The chronicle sheet looks fine to me.
I enjoyed the game a lot both for the roleplay aspect between characters but also for the trial structure where I had a blast trying to figure out solutions.
So thanks every one for that game and I'll be thrilled to play again with any of you in the near future.

This was the first 2e scenario I played, and I really loved it (though I have to admit, I think it would be a ton of work to play live -- I gained a lot of respect for the GM). It's still my favorite I've played so far.
I do also really like PBP for the mystery scenarios, since they're short enough that it's easy to go back and sift through the clues to make sure you're getting everything. APs can sometimes be so long that you've forgotten you've encountered a person/reference before.

Whoops, forgot to throw my Downtime roll, sorry. I didn't even see new posts in Discussion until now.
Engineering Lore: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Many thanks for the game! I was indisposed during a few bits, so I apologize for that. Plus, I should probably stop making shy characters as it gives me the excuse to roleplay by staying quiet.
