Backstory
--------------------
Description: Issam is a small old man, with white and mid-lenght hair, a leathery skin tanned by the sand and sun and a lean body marked by the sparse living of the desert. He has an infectious smile, bright brown eyes and a mesmerizing voice.
Issam usually dresses in a worn-out aba under a leather armor and wears a dark red keffiyeh and a matching agal.
Hair: White, mid-length
Eyes: Brown
Height: 5' 2"
Weight: 110 lbs.
Personality: Issam is calm and caring and looks out for others before himself. A musician by vocation, he likes to sing, tell stories and teach through them. He prefers to talk people down and find peaceful resolutions rather than fight but the harsh life of the desert has taught him to defend his life when needed.
His natural voice is that of a deep bass with rich harmonies and uses it to enhance the emotions of the maquams he uses. He also carries and old and battered oud that he uses to accompany himself or underline the tales he spins.
Background: Issam was born in the city of Mahhaba in a family still secretly worshiping Bala. When he was two, afraid of being betrayed to the authorities, the whole family fled to the north. His parents settled in the Al-Badia House of Hanif while some of their cousins traveled as far north as possible and settled in the city of Qadib, changing their names to al-Qadib, in an effort to integrate.
Among the nomads, Issam learned the ways of the desert while maintaining his faith. With his golden voice, his memory and calm demeanor, he became a storyteller that would go from tribe to tribe, carrying messages, entertaining people with his songs and stories, teaching the young ones and providing some healing. Still considered a stranger by the most conservative of the tribe, he married Fatima, the rebellious daughter of a kahin and they raised two daughters and a son. Last years, Fatima died of a sudden fever he could not cure despite his knowledge and faith. With his wife's death, he realized nothing was really tying his family to the House and that it was maybe time to find a life somewhere else.
Unhappy with the troubles brewing in his tribe between the two sons of the Sheikh, the time seemed more pressing and he left the tribe and made his way to the north, on the guise of furthering his knowledge. But he is looking for a place where his remaining family (he has two daughters and a son and some grand-children) could settle and be safe. On his journey, he has tracked one of his distant cousin (Fadilah's father) and decided to pay him a visit in Qadib to see if the town would be a good place.
