Hello all,

So Kingmaker 2E as designed has more encounters than a party using the standard advancement track will need in order to progress, and the Adventure Path recommends using the Slow Advancement Track if you want to spread things out more.

Because I was curious about this, I counted up all the fixed sources of XP that could be found between Lady Aldori's Manor and the death of the Stag Lord, and found that were was 3,630 EXP, just enough to take a Slow Advancement party to Fourth Level assuming they do literally everything to do in the chapter (get in every fight, complete every quest, etc) and don't have any random encounters (which will, admittedly, mess with the math in unpredictable ways.

My question as I try to figure out how to manage the EXP track from here on out (my PCs are currently exploring the Greenbelt), to those more familiar/experienced with Kingmaker and the 2E Adventure Paths in general, is "Is this slower pace worth it?" What do y'all feel is added or lost by this more "completionism required to advance" mindset versus the chance of either having more powerful characters/needing to adjust difficulty on my end/missing some areas and quests, and what would you recommend for other groups?

I'm personally working on stuff for a session I'm running this Saturday with the basic premise of "Lost Underground City of Bat People." I'm worried it won't be good, but then I worry about that with every session and it turns out okay, so fingers crossed.

Rolling Stone magazine did an article right away, before much of anything was known, so it was a lot of color and quotes from musicians and bystanders. Holy crap, I forgot how the "in-crowd" talked during that time. Groovy, bad vibes, cat, old man, old lady, bummed, bad trip, etc. The article reads as rather ridiculous now, despite the grim contents.

It reminds me of Nine Princes in Amber, which also contains some super-dated prose.

Groovy, man.

Maybe it is.

Maybe all adventures are just the hallucinations of the few remaining living survivors, as they huddle in the darkness, waiting for the inevitable. The bravery of heroes, the power of the gods, the astounding arcana of wizards... all of it, merely the last ditch effort of destroyed minds to find some madman's measure of victory in a lost cosmos...

I've thought seriously in the past of just allowing Humans as the PC race

I play in a D&D5 homebrew that originated in 3.5, and the GM banned all races but humans as PCs. When we rebooted for 5e he agreed to let my character be reworked into a tiefling, but ruled that tieflings in his homebrew don't look significantly different from humans. I usually prefer to play non-humans, but since I knew in advance that wouldn't be allowed, I appreciate the GM giving me this little bit of what I enjoy.

My grievance this week:
I joined a Star Wars Saga campaign last year that had been running for a year or more prior to my joining. I came in at 1st level running a Jedi padawan, while the other PCs were all around 12th level. A couple of months ago that campaign came to a conclusion. The GM now wants to run a 'sequel' taking place about 10 years later. He originally suggested that I continue to play my existing character, while the other players run Jedi padawan and my character could act as a leader/teacher. The other players are fine with this idea.

But I'm very uncomfortable being in a leadership role in a game. At the same time, though, I like the idea of continuing to run my existing character. I'm really torn about what to do: play a padawan like everyone else, or play my higher-level Jedi. Should I challenge my comfort zone, or stay in it? I can't decide.

I'mgoing to be honest, that sounds like an exciting roleplaying opportunity. My advice is to try it, and if it turns out that you don't like it, simply talk with your GM about switching characters.

Something else I got the itch to do recently: we've all seen dwarf smiths, dating back all the way to Brokk and Eitri. They make mighty spells while hammers fall like ringing bells, blah blah blah (no disrespect meant to Professor Tolkien!)...but, what about a dwarven WOODCARVER? Who do you think makes the hafts for all those hammers and axes and picks? Who makes the tankards and barrels for their famous beer? As for why he's adventuring? Maybe he wants to learn from an elven master carver, or procure some rare wood to make a masterpiece out of. Maybe he's just sick of being teased for working with materials that other dwarves take for granted. It'd be fun!

I hope you realize I'm stealing this. :)

They can theoretically prepare any spell on the Druid spell list, so long as their Wisdom and level are high enough.
