Wow, a whole group of drunken Bostonians with their clothes turned inside out. Phreaky

16-hours on tap for tonight. Then tomorrow afternoon my first wedding guest bus trip of the season.

I have two inquiries on my resumes. One is in DC, the other just outside Boston.

By way of example, I was on the Moot Court team in my Law School. In the first round of a Securities Law competition I gave an answer that blew the "Judges" away. They thought it was the most brilliant thing they heard all day. It probably sealed the victory for my team. In the next round on the next day I made the exact same argument damn near word for word. The "Judges" thought it was the most ridiculous thing they ever heard and it probably lost the round for us. << Shadow shrugs even with no definable body parts >> what can you do?
Different judges, I presume?

Yep.

I'm officially calling it: my #1 surreal moment of the first half of 2017 is hearing "Hotline Bling" by Drake as a "bumper" segment on NPR.

Surreal moment #5: this Facebook exchange with my sixty-something-year-old former high school English teacher.

Still trying to figure out what moments #2-#4 are, but I'm sure they'll pop up eventually.

That is odd. But you never know

I also have 3 concerts this weekend. Not a good combo.

Here goes #1. I've decided not to cancel anything, but I did scratch the French aria from this program. French is unpronounceable when one has a cold.

Break a... I dunno... vocal cord?

It was fine. I did the right thing in cutting a number, as my endurance is not what it would be otherwise. Two of our best singers weren't in this concert, so I came out looking like the star, cold and all.

The concert tonight is more singing, but the solo work is easier.

When fighter and wizard can't make it, bard saves the day.

Bards always save the day

I stayed up late last night watching TV. Finally went to bed a little after midnight. Thankfully, the boy let me sleep in this morning. He waited until around 0640.

Finally managed to run a game last night that challenged my Mythic players. The Bard nearly died and several of the other took more damage than they'd ever taken before since becoming mythic. And for a creepy red herring I threw in a room full of really old but hatched Xenomorph egg pods and they found the skeletons of the ancient temple guardians with holes in their rib cages where things had burst out. They ended up fighting devils, but they were paranoid as hell for the first hour of the game expecting Xenomorphs. It was great.

He he heh.

hi everyone,

nice and warm weekend on my side of the pond.

we picked the red currents and made juice for jam and had asperagus:
yesterday the traditional German white asparagus with potatos, sauce bernaise (well, traditinal would be hollondais) and cocked ham

my boy woke us at 5:45 :-/

which was bad because the girl had a blocked nose and did cry most of the night - not much sleep for us

I should be asleep already :/

OH my! Hope everything is ok!

Seconded, Patrick. I very much hope that you don't get Lyme Disease from that.

It's all good. I got my preventative dose of antibiotics and assuming no rash appears in 3-4 days I should be fine.

Great news to hear, Patrick. :)

Here's hoping it all works out for the best, Patrick!

I grew up on a farm, tramping around the fields and woods all summer long. Ticks were almost a daily occurrence during spring and summer. We used products like Off a lot, but it didn't keep them all away. Since my late mother sold the farm in 1988, I've not had a reason to really go do the sorts of things I did as a kid, and can count on one hand the number of ticks I've had on me the last 29 years.

The only time I ever had a problem with ticks was when I was four. We were picking wild blackberries and I got so many on me that I had a reaction and nearly went into shock. I don't remember very much about what happened, but I do remember getting a short series of injections for it. I never developed anything like Lyme disease or tick fever, thank goodness. I guess I was just lucky.

Cal, it sounds like what you had was an allergic reaction. The injections were probably Epinephrine.

Glad to hear, Patrick. You has me worried for a bit.

Hey, everyone. What I'm about to tell you will make you upset and sad, but there's no getting around it. It seems, sometime last night, that I suffered a mini-stroke. I was fine when I went to bed, with only a headache. When I woke up a little while ago, I had double vision. I checked my eyes in a mirror. My right eye no longer aligns with the left. It points, at rest, outward and slightly down. And it no longer reacts properly to bright light.

It's okay for everyone to worry about me. It's okay for everyone to be sad about what happened. But please, don't be sad for me. I'm still here, okay? Aside from the inconvenience of no longer having depth perception, I'm fine. I've got no muscle weakness on the right side, my speech is fine, and my face doesn't sag. But I won't tell you not to cry, if you want.

Yeah, I'm tearing up while trying to give some comfort. That joke I made several months ago about being made from bargain-bin parts doesn't seem so funny now. Karma, I guess.

John, I would suggest seeing a Dr to make sure there is not other damage. Take care of yourself!

Yes please go see a doctor John. Incidents like that can often be a precursor to more serious events.

Wow. The website looks so different defocused.

Indeed. Mini-strokes are what ultimately lead to my father's demise.
