Hi Everyone, I've decided to take an extended break from the boards. I'm not yet sure where this will lead. I will recontact you if I restart this game. I want to thank you very much for all these years of great fun creating this adventure. It has been quite a ride, but I need the break. I hope you understand. All the very best, DW

Is there one of those two you enjoy less? You mentioned earlier the combat maneuvers... (just trying to help.)
From reading previous posts, it seems some of us are waiting for the others in order to fill in the gaps. That's great, but that also means we're all waiting for one another. So I'll go ahead with a broad concept I have in mind, but that can be fitted into different classes. I have in mind a Septime general wannabe that spent the last ten years in a Cantonal prison following a botched insurrection. I can go either with wizard, cleric, bard, rogue, fighter, even barbarian for this concept, and I'd be happy with whichever one of those classes. Now, if I had to be the one to break the lock and state my preference in order to help others choose, then I would go with... (it's hard for me to figure this out!) Wizard! Second choice would be... Barbarian! Ok, I'll need help. Others have strong preferences towards a class that they would like to put out there? Supreme Being, feel free also to simply tell us not to care about it and that five Warlocks would be fine and to just play whatever we want ;)

Thanks for the clarifications. So far we have a warlock, any other strong thoughts on classes? Do I worry too much?
Hi Scranford, I have a couple of ideas and I would like to hear your thoughts and those of my colleagues to help me decide. These ideas will likely further evolve as the group takes shape. Also, what would help me is knowing whether we are to become 'straight adventurers,' meaning a group of people without a set goal except finding Fame and Fortune alongside Trouble, or citizens who find themselves caught in events or pursuing a Cause that lead them to seek Trouble for Some Greater Good. Idea if Citizen Caught in Events:
The main idea I have is for a Zobeck Kobold that is involved in improving the Kobold condition in Zobeck. I have a few ideas around that basic idea: The first is that he is a straight Kobold with either Bard, Artificer, or even Paladin for class levels. The second is that he has been so successful in his activism that someone had him killed, but another party has conveniently arranged for his return as a Gearforged. Again, either Bard, Artificer or Paladin for class levels, but also Warlock perhaps, to represent the Patron (could be Helba even...). I also have other ideas floating in my head that would work better for 'straight adventuring.'
For a heads up: I'm working on a Belter pilot, perhaps a tech, a romantico-philosophical spirit who sees her work as the thread that binds humankind together. Choices so far: Origin: Belt Social Class: Middle Background: Trade Benefit of background: Focus: Intelligence (Technology) Profession: Pilot Drive: Caregiver
Wow, part of me doesn't want to let go of that game :) I feel like the three of us were getting in the groove of working together and dealing with our antics. Thank so much Tareth, I had a ton of fun in that game, thanks to your DMing in great part, and my companions' great RP as well. All the best and hope we see each other in another game soon!

I am a little confused. Is it Aeshuura or Greycastle that is running the game and the recruitment? Or perhaps you guys are running it together?

Thanks, very useful!

Am I right in interpreting the comments about the paths to mean that only Lost One and Vanished One are available? I'm not clear whether Dragonslayer and Cursed One are also available.
Hi Scranford/Supreme Being, I am interested. I'll go over the material and see if I can come up with an appropriate concept to submit. I declined the first time around as I had enough games running, but some of them have finished and I regretted not having submitted something. So it all falls into place perhaps.
Definitely curious about this. What I've read so far sounds quite interesting. Destiny (Rolls):
Ancestry: 1d6 ⇒ 6 Orc. Age: 3d6 ⇒ (3, 3, 4) = 10 Adolescent, 8-12 years old. Build: 3d6 ⇒ (1, 2, 4) = 7 Thin. Appearance: 3d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 3) = 11 Ugly. Background: 1d20 ⇒ 5 You caught the rot and lost your nose and ears. Personality: 3d6 ⇒ (1, 4, 2) = 7 You take care of yourself, take what you want, do what you want. Profession 1: 1d6 ⇒ 61d20 ⇒ 11 Wilderness, Pioneer. Profession 2: 1d6 ⇒ 61d6 ⇒ 21d20 ⇒ 18 (Same roll: rerolled) Common, Servant or Valet. Lifestyle: 3d6 ⇒ (2, 6, 4) = 12 Getting by. Interesting Thing: 1d6 ⇒ 51d20 ⇒ 4 A pair of spectacles that sometimes let you see through up to 1 inch of solid rock. Personality Traits: 4d20 ⇒ (14, 2, 5, 9) = 30 (then pick one positive and one negative from the results) Forgiving, Deceitful. I will work on those results to see if I can weave them into an interesting character.
Thank you so very much Brainiac, this was quite an amazing feat to go through a whole AP is such a short period of time! You did an amazing job of keeping our momentum forward and avoid us getting bogged down in sub-plots. I thought the adventure was quite entertaining and you did an amazing job of giving some space to character development amidst this chaos. I don't have anything negative to report. You can't have it all is my perspective. If you want a more open game with lots of space for side-stuff, then it's not going to move along briskly, so it's a compromise and I was ok with it, as you handled the balancing act amazingly well. Unrelated, I must admit still being confused how powerful Rogar's character was in comparison. As was mentioned, it remains a few-tricks pony, but those tricks... So I guess the one-shoting of so many boss encounters is the only thing that I wish had been different. That being said, I learned a lot about power-balance in parties, and we did a good job of not making a big deal of it. Once again, many thanks to you, Brainiac, and to my dear colleagues, who made this an amazing experience. Let's hope we fight each others on the boards soon!
Thanks for the clarification. I guess you could introduce more variability by going 6d8 instead of 8d6, but the expected value remains 27, so you're as likely to see a bump as to see a drop. A sure way to give a bump is to go with 30 points. That's more direct, but there is no variability anymore. Perhaps a constant value plus a variable value might be what you're looking for? For example 16+3d8? The expectation for this is 29.5, or 16+4d6? Just throwing ideas around.
