Introducing Our New Org Play Developer!

Friday, December 20, 2019

I’m James Case, the newest organized play developer! I’m coming over from the editing team, where over the last couple of years, I’ve had the chance to see and get a feel for almost every type of product that Paizo puts out. Before that, I worked in scientific editing in Tokyo, where I both picked up a surprising number of useful RPG facts from research papers (the color red is made of beetles!) as well as introduced my RPG group to Pathfinder.

I’m pretty new to Society play, but I’m really excited to be coming in to the Organized Play department at this time. My primary focus is on Pathfinder Society, though we have lots of crossover between the various programs. We’ve recently been talking about our plans for the upcoming seasons, and I can’t wait to see what you all think. As something of a crash course in the department, I recently wrote a Pathfinder Society Quest, Port Peril Pub Crawl, which might be up your alley if you like pirates and mayhem (I did in fact write it in a pub, though there weren’t any pirates or barfights, which is probably for the best).

When I’m not playing RPGs, I’m usually either blowing bubbles or writing about Japanese music. You can catch me on The Twitters at @toriariaria.

Loved that game. I'd coincidentally created a character from Vidrian, so it was a nice "homecoming" ^_^

Hi James!

Are you going to be involved in the non-PFRPG parts of organized play at all (eg Starfinder and the Card Game), or is it just limited to crossovers?

When you talk about Japanese music, do you mean the traditional folk type of Japanese music or are you interested more in the modern styles (JPop/JRock etc)?

I am indeed talking about cochineal!

As for Yorushika, I'm a little less plugged into the Vocaloid producer-type acts so I hadn't been following them too closely, but I remember listening to their debut album when it came out and liking it. At the very least, "That's Why I Gave Up On Music" is up my alley.

For the time being, I'm mostly working with PF, but that may change in the future with the needs of each program and as we get farther from the Second Edition release.

As for music, on the modern rock side of things, usually more band-driven. I enjoy more traditional stuff when I hear it, but that's mostly like at bon dances and stuff ^_^
