A Haul of Arms

Thursday, July 12, 2018

Psst! You look like a sapient species with some credits to spare, and that azimuth laser pistol of yours looks worn OUT. Why don't you take a look through this catalog of brand-new weaponry, and we'll find you a great weapon at an honest price.

What's that? You want powered armor? That guy's not here 'til next week. Besides, the best defense is a good offense—and I've got some real offensive stuff here! Take these disintegrator weapons—they'll melt your face… OFF! Well, your enemies' faces. Or face-like appendages. You know what I mean.

And hey, if disintegration isn't your style, not to worry! I've got more than 650 weapons on offer, in more than 150 makes, with 46 new weapon special properties and half a dozen critical hit effects. Wanna keep your hands free while blasting away with a shoulder laser? Put a weapon with the integrated special property into an armor upgrade slot! Wanna scare the nutrition paste outta your enemies? Hit em with a psychic-wave cannon and let its demoralize critical hit effect do the work! Whatever your preferred flavor of proactive self-defense, you'll find it here.

This spread of weapons represents fewer than 5 percent of the new weapons in Starfinder Armory. Oddly specific developer note: Armory introduces 42 3rd-level weapons—auspicious!

And I'm not even counting the new ammunition (phasing sniper rounds strike your fancy?) or dozens of new grenades and solarian weapon crystals. So buy today—I'm even throwing in free installation of a sniper scope with the purchase of any small arm, or free integration of a null-space gunner harness with any heavy weapon. Why lug around that rail cannon when you could carry it in your pocket as a 1-1/2 inch disk? Of course, I'm happy to sell you any of two dozen other weapon accessories, if you prefer.

Great doing business with ya, and happy hunting!

Dude, if you find a way to do it please let me know. I've been trying forever to make it work.

Not to worry! As Dracomicron said, there's a whole bunch lot more than weapons in this book, and there are also more blogs coming—as hinted early on in this one!

650 new weapons?!? By my count (and I am keeping count), that's almost twice as many weapons as CRB, AA, PW, and DS put together.

So. Pumped.

Likely that the 46 weapons from Dead Suns are going to appear again in this book, so maybe we're at a mere 600 new weapons.

Regardless, I'm really excited to have some more organic curves in the weapon development, and the presence of a couple of new lines of Sniper weapons is going to be a huge boon to my 703, who wishes he was a sniper but instead has a Longarm right now.

From my rough count just now, there are only about a dozen weapon pickups... and around 8 new sniper weapon "makes." =)

Also, my playtest android operative was named 703!

Wow, more hype!

A bounty hunter needs to remember, if he wants to get paid, "No disintegrations!"

That's insane!
No, that would be IN the membrane.

So the next step is to cock the hammer? ;)

I hope that never happens.

Sorry, but it already happened: The jarlslayer armor in the Core Rulebook (15th level, Str 29; maximum possible Str at level 15 is 18 maximum starting score + 3 advancements + 6 from personal upgrade = 27).

With such a large number of weapons, and such a small number of pages, how will we possibly get all of the important information needed to use these weapons to their full extent? Sounds like most won't even have descriptions, much less safety instructions. There just isn't enough instruction manual to make that work for that many weapons.

Try pressing the little red button on the bottom.

I imagine it will be similar to the core in which they have one description to cover all levelled versions of a certain thing - they won't need 650 paragraphs of description text, more like 100-200 ish. (for example, there is one description text in the core to describe laser rifles, applying to all 6 laser rifles in the book)

Looking forward to the new book... Especially the class specific items.

May I ask if the book will include new rules or similar?

I'd like to see a rule which allows players to "manually" upgrade their gear, such taking a 1st-level pistol and upgrading to 2nd, 3rd and 4th via Craft checks instead of purchasing a better weapon.

I'm asking this as some players will want to keep certain items for "backstory sentimental value", but it can be hard if you just replace them ^^;

Will there be any soldier gear boosts included in this supplement?

I know it's a more character-based topic, but it is very equipment relevant.

Yes. Every class is getting selectable ability choices relating to making gear more effective, as far as I can tell. Soldiers are probably getting the best deal here, because their ability is literally called "gear boost."

All the classes are getting new class features (related to gear) the only ones we know for sure (from twitch streams) are...

Spoiler:
Mystics are getting a new connection related to biotech. Solarians are getting at least one new zenith revelation called "quantum entrapment" that teleports opponents, somehow.

Sci fi needs lots of guns. However, I'm playing a Technomancer with Fabricate Tech and I'm hoping for lots of gadgets I can pull out of my ass when needed. Metaphorically.

The guns/armor stuff was needed to help smooth out some of the holes in the existing ones especially power armor but it is nice that there are new class feature stuff being added as well.

** spoiler omitted **

Mystics are getting a new connection regarding biotech? Bring out the bioware enhancements. And Solarians are getting a new revelation. That's good.

I am pretty sure they talked about bioware and necrographs will be covered in the armory as well as probably some other flavors of enhancement tech.

necrograft, correct?

Urge to run Fallout in Starfinder rising!

I ran a Fallout world in Starfinder. I overlayed the local map of my area and apocalypsed it, made it so vehicles would serve as starships without the drift and space capabilities (although that was an option given they could get to the right people considering what happened in New Vegas) and I set it to just as Triune was sending out the drift beam, so that info was kicking around certain people's heads. There were raiders and ghouls. I used this https://www.sfrpgtools.com/monster-builder to help me remake some classic Fallout monsters. It was really fun.

I'm currently running a 5e urban arcana game so it'll be a while before I run fallout Starfinder, but my main hurdle in conversion was the lack of non plasmathrower style plasma weapons.

My idea is to use spaceships for naval vehicles, with travel up and down the great lakes being a feature of the campaign.

My enemies are really more interested in a gluten-free plasma bolt to the face... can you do anything there for me?

Alas, I was hoping someone would have caught the other Cypress Hill references/jokes in this thread.

I don't think starship combat is necesary for the game system. It's necesary for the story and game mood of an space opera sci fi game, but for a game based on post-apocalyptic earth, and specifically in Fallout, I'd rather cut the starship combat.
