My first reaction was also, nice spikes!
I think the dungeon dressing is a good move, and I bet they'll be popular pieces. The old Mage Knight artifact packs still sell really well on Ebay, and I expect this will be similar sorts of stuff.
Kinda surprised that this set doesn't have an explicit link to an Adventure Path, since you haven't had an AP-linked set since Reign of Winter. But I actually think I like the unlinked sets better, especially if each set then provides a few key minis from a variety of AP's.

Also very excited for the dungeon dressings, provided they are less than common.
I would have to say, in my opinion, it would make a difference what the item was. While I agree I don't need five cauldrons, if the piece were a free standing candle or torch for example, then allowing that to be a common small would be just fine. I could always use five or six of those in my set ups.

Oooooooh ... I like the idea of this upcoming set "Dungeons Deep". Very cool, and very evocative images/characters/creatures come to mind. (Drow I'm looking at you). :)
Also, eager to hear about the case incentive, my initial thought was a gargantuan red dragon, but as I thought about this set, it occurred to me, perhaps something like a neo-thelid, or even a purple worm is possible.
***Erik, how soon/late must one "re-subscribe" to Pathfinder Battles to qualify for the discount on the Iconics Sets?***
I have a plan. :)
Just hope the timing works out.
Thanks in advance.

I love the Sasquatch and Dwarf. Major points for using more art from the NPC Codex.
It sounds to me like this is going to be a fantastic line.
I'm also excited to see what the Gargantuan incentive piece is. If I'm correct, this is the Battles set that Erik was planning when he asked us to vote awhile back on what Gargantuan creature we'd most like to see. He indicated it could be anything, but he said to keep a basic dungeon in mind. This would definitely qualify for that theme.

Are these renders or actual test run pieces?
These are digital renders. We have photos of the Saquatch, but honestly these renders are better-looking than the photos I have (the minis themselves look GREAT).
So I'm going to keep the previews focused on digital renders as much as possible for now. I'll do comparison photos later once I have more than 5 paint masters. :)

To be clear, it sounds like each case will contain at least one of each individual Dungeon Dressing miniature in the six-piece set, right? So each case should have, at a minimum, the entire six-piece set.
For some reason, the first time through, I read it as there being at least one piece per case of the Dungeon Dressing. As in there would only be one piece per case, and thus the set was more like the chase-pieces in the new D&D line.
And for the record, this question is for everyone else, not Erik. I can wait a week for a definitive explanation.

Ping me again if you don't get an answer to this early next week. Everyone on the CS side is gone by now, and I don't want to give an answer that may be incorrect.
I _think_ that as long as you've had the current set, The Lost Coast, fulfilled as part of a subscription before February, you should be good, but I will confirm that next week.

Yes, one full set of all the dressing. But I think it's actually more than that. Checking. I'll address this specifically in next week's blog, when I show off the next piece.

I do have a question for Erik. Does it matter where we buy the Iconics line from? The success of the line in the eyes of Wizkids would be total units sold, right? And so whether we buy two each from this website or two from a third party site (or FLGS) doesn't make any difference in that regard, correct?

Let me help Erik answer here: For all of our subscriptions, in order for your subscriber benefits to kick in, you must have had at least one subscription shipment ship. That means, if you want the Iconics Set discount for being a Pathfinder Battles subscriber, you need to start your subscription with Lost Coast.

We always have said to buy where it makes the most sense for your budget. Sales across all channels are good!

seconded! My, oh my is that seconded. At the moment I use the Iconds of the realms goblin for my small spriggans but I would be sooooo much happier with a small and large with a unified look. Then again there are literally hundreds of minis I "need" for my collection.
I love the idea of dungeon dressings. I have taken very heavily to the mage knight scenery stuff and everyone at the table loves it. The cauldron get s a big thumbs up for the first. Pillars and stair would be good to have too at some point.
As for the other two, not sure how much I'll use a sasquatch, odd choice for a mini in my eyes. That said of course Ill need a few and I'm certain that will end with sasquatch encounters.
That dwarf is very nice. Hero or Villain it will see some serious use at our table.
Very excited for this set, just seems a shame we have to wait for the incentive (hint, hint)

I'm really happy to see the return of previews for a new set and it was great to read that it will be a 51 figure set!
I'm not quite as excited about dungeon dressing as everyone else, but if the figures are rares then I would certainly be pleased. That cauldron looks really good and I would like to have 1 (but most certainly not 4).
Dungeon denizens need heroes to slay, so we've included several in this set as well.
I really like getting more pc/npc figures, so I am also really happy to hear this.

I didn't pick up on that, but yes. That's good to hear. Not as good as 55, but better than 45.

The inclusion of dungeon dressing is a disappointment to me, so not quite everyone. Every cauldron, altar or door is one less daemon (or whatever) that doesn't get made. It's always been an idea that sounds better than it actually turns out, in my experience.
Steve Geddes |
Well, Erik. You've done that before - so I wont be surprised. :)
I've just always found 3D props like that which I've tried to introduce to last one or two sessions, then the fiddliness just begins to get in the way of the game and we go back to black texta scribbles. I'll keep an open mind though - it's just not something I'm looking forward to.
And, of course, all will be forgiven if there IS a daemon or two on the way... ;)

There's at least one demon in the set, just for you. (Everyone else will get it to, though.)
We don't get a lot of dungeon dressing, so I'm trying to make smart choices that add a lot of dynamism to an encounter. To be honest, I think the cauldron is probably my least favorite of all of the pieces, and I'm still really happy with it.
The rest are better.

There's a lot to like about the PF Battles line, but I think if I had to pick one, single favourite feature it would be model selection. You do a terrific job of balancing who-knows-how-many factors in selecting which figures to include at what rarities, in my opinion.

Do you mean there is a DEMON or a DAEMON in the set Eric? ;-)
I like the idea of 3D props - i hope this gets to the point that we get special sets for special adventure set bossfights.
An altar of Asmodeus (or another evil god), a (crimson) throne,
a large mirror, a (large or medium) brazier, a large (bejeweled) (dragon or humanoid) skull, a large bed, a large fireplace, a large dresser with drawers and a large bath tub - these are things that come to mind immediately.
I recon the cauldron is medium size?
Most things would work both in medium and large size - small and huge is not really practicable.
Thanks for sharing - i like it and hope other people will too.

First off, yay for the new set previews! All three pieces are winners. If this is the kind of stuff we get when a set is not tightly coupled to an AP theme, I'm all for this approach!

I was wondering what I would do with multiple cauldrons, myself. But, I bet these dressing pieces will be quite easy to trade, so I'm not worried at all about getting multiples. And, like was mentioned above, there are many items that I would certainly want more than one of. I think this is a great idea for the line, and can't wait to see what the other five pieces are.

I'm another fan of the dungeon dressings. 6 out of 51, and folks still get their 45 creatures. Seems fair. But it's an experiment - I love that Paizo is willing to try something new and see how it turns out - so we'll have to see how the public feels about them and move forward from there. My guts says it's more a question of getting the ratio of dressings-to-creatures right so that even the non-prop folk can feel like they're getting their money's worth. But I'm stoked!
Scribbling Rambler |
I'm also like Steve Geddes - in the past I've found the dungeon dressing better in theory than in use. However, I'm certainly interested to see how they turn out. If it does turn out to be an ongoing thing, I hope the number is fluid, and/or that the dressing "slots" may also be used for things like mules.
That said, all of these renders look great.
However, I'm more excited at some of the things mentioned in the text: 51 figure set, lots of characters, loose theme...
And while it is not tied to a specific AP, it's interesting that there are "several dwarf figures" arriving around the completion of Giantslayer.
And Dire Corbies live in dungeons deep.

We actually needed a Sasquatch mini. I like that it doesn't have any shorts on, unlike its colder cousin.
I too like the spiky elements on the Dwarf. If I get more than one, I will be tempted to mod one or two into Duergar.
And finally, I like props. When I can use them, they add to the overall experience, especially if I can combine them with some Dwarven Forge or other terrain.
Now personally, I would like to get several of the Cauldrons. One especially to have a little fun with. I could see drilling a hole in the bottom of one and running up a little LED into it.
Plus in a certain AP there were three Hag Witch sisters brewing around a Cauldron. I could see modifying the encounter with each sister with her own Cauldron brewing up different spells. Fun!
Thanks Erik! This is a good way to start the New Year.

I am very excited to see dungeon dressing!!! So much more useful when combined with my Dwarven Forge pieces than farm animals. =)
That means that the Feiya and King Irovetti replacement figures will not appear in The Lost Coast, and will instead be inserted into the next set we do after that. We apologize for the delay, but I for one am impressed with WizKids taking the initiative to fix the problem. None of us needs more bad Feiya figures.
Just wanted to check that this is still happening for the this new set? Or did I miss a post somewhere?

I'm excited to see what the rest of the dungeon dressing pieces will be. Like several others have stated, I've not been a huge fan of 3D props in the past. I'm hoping this time around will be different.
I'm usually a fan of Erik's choices, so I'm sure he's picked some of the more iconic and functional items in fantasy to use as representation in this set. The good thing about these props are that they can be used, as DropDeadHunter mentioned, as Mimics. So even if I don't end up using these pieces for their original intent, I'll still have six great looking Mimics.

Erik, a quick question for you, since I know you follow these pages: I recently stumbled on to a mini being sold on Ebay as a Paizo promo called the Albino Wererat, clearly a repaint of the S&S Wererat. (It was a Hong Kong seller, as far as I can tell.) I've never seen these released anywhere else or for sale anywhere else. Can you tell me what's up with this mini?

This one? If it were not for the name shown on the bottom I would have thought it might be a mini somebody personalised.
Also glad to see that Dungeon Dressings won't become chase pieces.
