(If you played in my Chapter 4 and you intend to come back, please make your way to Discussion.)
If you haven't played in my Chapter 4, welcome! The premise of the campaign is that an expedition from a Near Space university has been sent to the Pact Worlds to explore that system's sun (Mataras). The chapters of this AP are largely self-contained, so it won't be hard to bring you up to speed. If you'd like to join, please post below a character proposal in this thread (remembering it needs to be a Near Space species ready for one of the two expedition roles listed below). I don't need a character sheet at this point, just a one or two paragraph description of of personality, background, capabilities, etc. I'll wait a bit to see who's interested and then choose from there. And of course, questions are always welcome.
Roles Needed
Security Officer
Lead Engineer

Hello! I would certainly be interested :-)
A concept that I could get behind would be:
Delta-CloudCatI.Q.Prime is a hologramatic submind 'birthed' from an AI research project that was cataloguing information about the Burning Archipelago. They have an incredible curiosity about the Deep Cultures, and how life could have adapted to survive in such hostile environments.
Although they themselves are synthetic, they are obsessed with the possibility of bridging the gap between biological and synthetic life, happily installing non-cybernetic parts into themselves.
Mechanically, I would be going for Lead Engineer - either a Mechanic, or a Technomancer with the Drone Technomancy alternate class feature.

@Ouachitonian: New PCs would be starting at 8th level with normal WBL and would use point-buy for stats.
@Violant: Welcome! That's a good question. It usually says in the description of a race where it's from. Some well-known Starfinder races from Near Space include vesks, skittermanders, and pahtras--but there are many more.

Are there Vorlons? I'll play if there are Vorlons!
Is really here to 'torment' the GM. :)

Making a security officer and somewhat lead engineer. Role, melee Operative. Hunter is an embri with ambition. He is the type that is usually avoided because of his looks as many fear his species, but he makes up for it with his skill and ability to help others. He aims to be outgoing and friendly.
Hunter, being the nerdy kid of all the embri, didn't have many friends, but that didn't matter to him. He just aimed to help others and study as many things as possible. One day he stumbled upon a very young dead dragon and longed to find its parents. He never did, so he brought it home and studied it. Just one more thing for him to study, if it wasn't computers or technology or even other creatures. Later in life he decided to learn to inspire others, cause he wants to challenge himself socially. This includes exploring other worlds, so he is ready to adventure with others on any planet or planet like area.

Alright. Have a bit more thought up. Amhesha, Pahtra Soldier/Mechanic. In contrast to DoubleGold's "Security Officer and somewhat Lead Engineer," I'll be making a "Lead Engineer and somewhat Security Officer," a Puloni Pahtra with a few fur deformities mucking with their mystic-assigned destiny, leading to off-world shenanigans. Role would in combat would be ranged (not used to any kind of Starfinder).
Personality-wise, they'd be eager with a thirst for knowledge of any kind, and have taken a particular interest in the Burning Archipelago due to the fact that it's well... The Burning Archipelago. I know there's already a full Mechanic in the party, so I'll do my best to make them mechanically a distinct character.
Hopefully that's enough to go off of, this would be my first foray into Starfinder so it took a good day or so of looking over the rules to get an idea of what concept I want for this one.

Theodore Edward Bear |

This is Ouachitonian's (incomplete) submission. Weirdly, I couldn't find a bear head for the picture, but this one will do. Theodore (Don't call him Ted. It annoys him. You don't want him annoyed with you) is something of a warrior-scholar, modeled a bit on Beast (aka Dr. Hank McCoy) of X-Men fame. Is he ten feat of hairy muscle, with terrifying claws? Yes. Does he have a Ph.D. in Xenobiology, and find the chance to study the lifeforms that live on a star fascinating? Also yes. I still need to fill out his background, but long story short he funded his graduate education as a mercenary (what? He's ten feet tall, has massive strength and great big claws. No one's hiring him to babysit.) and is looking forward to a chance to do some field research. The statblock is kind of slapped together on the model of what HeroLab gives me for Pathfinder (I don't have HeroLab for Starfinder), so it may be a little wonky. All errors are mine alone.

@Shadow Dragon: I do love me some B5, but I think I'd confuse the current crop of players if I suddenly transitioned in the Shadow War!
@DoubleGold: Thanks, I think embri are an interesting race (I've got an embri mystic in SFS).
@Violant: Good stuff, thanks. I like the original spin you've put on the concept.
@Theodore: Ten feet of scary! Fun!
I'll wait 24 hours or so to give anyone else a chance, and then make some picks so we can get this ball rolling.

Hard choices, but I guess that's a good thing. Sincere thanks for everyone who threw their hat in the ring! I'm going to go with the following:
Security Officer: Theo
Lead Engineer: Amhesha
Please go ahead and make/finalise your characters and let me know if you have questions about anything. It'll be a few days (real-world) before you're introduced.
If we get any openings during the chapter, I'll reach out to Hunter and Delta-CloudCatI.Q.Prime first. I will not allow ShadowDragon to introduce Ambassador Kosh unless the bribery really amps up.
