Sorry gang -- post incoming today or tomorrow. It was a long weekend here in Canada, but I was too busy to post.
DM Paguroid |
Good luck with the election, American friends -- it looks like it's going to be a rough one.
btw, I'll be away for a week, starting Thursday. I'll have internet access, but posting might be sporadic.
DM Paguroid |
I find myself having the precise same feelings I did 8 years ago:
- It's ludicrous that he's even running. Who would vote for him?
- He can't be in the lead. Wait until all the votes are counted.
- Then just despair and fear (Canada has an election coming in the next year and it's highly likely that an ultra-right-wing party will also win)

Largely, it seems the uneducated and elderly that have been indoctrinated by Fox News. I think the most successful tactic was laid down when he started the 'Fake News' movement... After that it was easy to steer his followers away from finding the truth, or even believing it when they see it.
The media has not helped when they omit context in their videos. Same with social media.
It is sad really. I am reminded of Orwell's 1984...

I don't know what to tell you, Gideon. It's not like it's possible to be in a politics-free zone. I'm not even American and I can tell you that this election is the thing on everyone's mind around the world.
Also, it's not like I've concealed my politics on here (e.g., the comments I've made in this Discussion thread, the non-binary NPCs that have appeared in this adventure, etc.). If it needs to be said explicitly, I'm about as left as it is possible to be, I believe in socialist programs, that queer and trans people and women are people with the right to exist and to control their own bodies, that climate change is human-caused and is a real threat to the planet, that oil is bad and immigration is good.
I'm not going to purposely disparage individual voters, but Trump is a vile person who will further increase the decline of the US and be the cause of many, many deaths.

Okay. since you're smarter than everyone in the world standing high on your moral compass I'll just drop from the game and live my life in peace. It amazes me how judgmental all you so-called open-minded Liberals are. Please remove me from the game thread and never contact me again with your poison views. This was all so avoidable except YOU decided to play god...
DM Paguroid |
Anyway, as mentioned previously, I'll be on vacation for a week starting tomorrow. I guess if anyone's still around, we can pick this back up on Nov 18.
Regardless, this adventure is coming to a close soon. The last boss battle is next, and then we wrap up. I've enjoyed adventuring with you, but I'm not sure my heart is into running more 5e (from previous conversations, it sounds like that's a fairly mutual sentiment).
No worries if nobody wants to continue -- it's been an upsetting day and possibly I ran my mouth more than I should have. Burning bridges today was not my intention.

Kind of speaks to the point, if you can't even have a discussion (or just sit one out) about a viewpoint you don't agree with. Gird your loins friends.
Have checked in on some friends and family, they seem to be okay for now. My Trump-voting step sibling posted a video about how the working class are tired of being ignored, yada yada, and they are right, but their (the Trump supporters') economic theories of what they think will happen now just don't hold up. I've also heard that globally when people are unhappy, they vote for change of any kind - against whomever is incumbent, and that's echoing in a lot of elections lately.
Back to bashing imaginary wolves and goblins!
Toki Sigurdson |
I understand. I am just worried about my friends who have been actively threatened by his supporters. Sorry you feel that way Scran.
Back to it. Enjoy your vacation, DM!
EDIT: I realized later that my comment may have sounded sarcastic, but I really do mean it, Scranford.

Amen to this. I couldn’t agree with a post more. I’m sorry to see Gideon go, but I agree that it just shows how things are going. That as you state your clear opinions, it was his own bias that made him leave the channel. The belief that your words were “poison”. SMH
I am not pleased with the results but I also respect our democracy. If he wins, he wins. My concern is that his followers won’t see how it was a “fair” election and a clear example of how to concede. My next concern is what he and his administration will do to our systems of government in the next four years. We will need to stay vigilant and be ready to stand up against the bully when the time comes.

Let me clarify a few points before I step away... and I know I should keep my mouth shut and move away from this tender subject but here goes.
First let me say I don't have an issue with anything you've said here. Everyone has their rights to their views, but I use RPG's as an escape for the realities of life, and don't think it needed to be brought up here... which was my original statement. There are plenty of places to vent your frustrations without causing conflict in my happy place.
The first parts of this post were "It's ludicrous that he's even running. Who would vote for him"? You've called me out, and judged me with this statement; "Largely, it seems the uneducated and elderly that have been indoctrinated by Fox News". Again a judgement, and if any media is taking things out of context it is the liberal media... and trust me I don't believe anything I see on any media platform without doing my own research.
* I support LGBTQ+ rights to live life without fear. (I had a Trans nephew who killed himself last year... which I assume you blame on conservatives).
* I support a womans right to choose.
* I don't think the Federal Government needs to make everyone believe the same thing.
I am 64 years old and have worked non-stop since I was 14, and I don't support giving up things I have worked for to people who are not legally in the country, or just don't want to work. I'm all for legal immigration, not for uncontrolled access to the greatest country on earth.
When the conservative party lost the election last cycle I was depressed for weeks afterward, and truly considered ex-patriating, but I love my country and don't want to leave. I thought the economy, and the plight of the middle-class of the US paying for everything would tank... and I was right. Inflation, the cost of housing, insurance, and basics of life are now out of control.
On a final thought, as a student of history (Eliminating our history is another sore point with me if you don't remember history you are destined to repeat it). But the whole categorizing the Conservative movement into fascist is in fact fascist itself. Let's consider for a moment how the Nazi party came to power in the first place.
1. Take control of the Media so that people are not given the truth... check.
2. Take control of state intelligence operations... Check again.
3. Tell everyone what they are to believe, and if you don't agree you will be judged... check again.
I truly wish you all the best and am sorry for my part in perpetuating this getting out of control. The true poison of this is the mass dispensing of everyone personal agenda and thoughts as truth.

What is interesting is that all your talking points are exactly how we feel. Many of us are just trying to understand. I see things from a certain point of view, largely trying to stay away from mainstream media and do my due diligence.
Thank you for clarifying your position. Like I said, I am just trying to understand...
Gideon Dawnbringer |
We all have much more in common than we do differences, I just choose not to try and tear down those who believe differently... and I keep my opinions to myself unless asked... or accused.
Have a great weekend.

Our country (USA) seems sort of split, yes? So for every fear I (a liberal) have or my friend has, I think what does my conservative family member feel or how has my conservative friend felt in the past. Yes, you are all right, we have so much in common, we just disagree ideologically. I wish there was an easy middle ground, but alas there does not seem to be one. Or rather, it's a very difficult middle ground, is better said.
I don't know what the answer is, Scran, and also everyone else. Surely there's a way for folks to come together over common interests, like gaming!, and be cool. Maybe we all (as in gamers online) need to have like a list of topics we don't want brought up, no questions asked. I know some groups do that for some issues already. I certainly have a small list.
Yeah, IDK.
Scran brought up history, and this seems like a hopefully common interest. Years ago I read "The Nazi Seizure of Power: The Experience of a Single German Town, 1922-1945, Revised Edition". I feel the author tried to be just a historical summary of how it all went down without injecting too much opinion (but obviously as an historian, there's opinion). A very long, rather dry (sorry, author!) summary. Anywho, it was a good read in the end. Nothing is ever straightforward but Scran did capture some points the author made in the book, along with unrest, poverty, you get the point.

Character creation goes
A: Ancestry
B: Background
C: Class
PFS has two options to play in, Society or Campaign. Campaign mode is subject to what the DM wants while Society play means following their rules and limits some options.
I do think that PF2E has the most customizable character creation system out there.
Toki Sigurdson |
I would be down to play. PFS is fun, and having the bounded adventures works better for PbP, but I much prefer home campaigns more for new settings than for the flexibility.
DM Paguroid |
Still on vacay, but just popping in to say that I would be interested in a PF2 game -- the pbp game I'm in is on indefinite hold (with this GM, that usually means he's given up on it). I don't know much about PF2 yet, but I have built a couple of characters and played one of them in two short PFS sessions.
