K still slinks back a bit from the enthusiasm of Dr. Baker's interest. Dr. Baker, oblivious to anything but the object of his current obsession is only stopped by running into what would seem to be an unseen hand.
A raspy, whispery voice says, "Please Dr. Baker, a bit of decorum..."
While the conversation between those new to the temple and those who claim it as a communal haven continue, Edwin enters the room, returning from his earlier obligations.
Dr. Matthew Baker |
Dr. Baker has no idea (or honestly, concern) how his behavior is affecting K, so caught up as he is in visions of revolutionizing the understanding of the kindred condition. The unseen visitor does manage to snap him out of his enthusiasm, leaving him adjusting his glasses with some degree of self consciousness.
"Ah, forgive me. I should stress that this is your choice, young one". The words are forced out with some degree of pain. "Please do reach out if you are willing, I believe that we can do great things together."
Edwin Wagner |
Edwin shrugs, "To determine that I suppose we would need to each know a bit more about each other.
Our small group is dedicated to knowledge and gaining an understanding of that which can be perceived as well as that which cannot be perceived. Up until recently we had really been flying under the radar, or so we thought at any rate.
I apologize if I am covering ground that you already tread with my colleagues, but are you new to town?"
As Doctor Baker speaks, Edwin responds for K, "Certainly Doctor, we can make time to sit down with K. I have taken him on so to speak so any discussion with him would also necessarily involve me".
Calliope Marchette |
Sorry for my silence! The holidays got busy, and if I'm being honest, I started a new book series and got a little obsessive about reading it. I've made it through two and a half books in a few days.
Calliope smiles with relief on Edwin's return, not having enjoyed playing the part of a leader while dealing with the evening's adventures. His surprise at the new face made her surpress a sigh and an unkind thought about older generations not keeping up with new, convenient forms of technology.
Edwin's smooth takeover of the conversation meant Calliope didn't need to fill him in on this information, so the artist merely leaned forward and studied Savanna's face as she spoke. Details to file away for later. "Ah, I didn't think to ask that," Calliope murmurs, genuinely interested in what else Savanna had to say.
Dr. Matthew Baker |
"I would love the opportunity to interview you both." says Matthew, with fresh excitement. "Learning how you affected K's development will be most helpful to my research!" Mollified,he reluctantly turns his attention towards the other conversation, granting K a moment of peace from his inquiries.
Savanna Douglas |
I think he has left. Probably. I am, and he was, obviously, a Malkavian. THat might explain a lot, or nothing.
She gives another flash smile
But don't worry, he took the time to house train me.
Savanna doesn't wait for a reaction at her joke
I've known him for a few years now. It's not the first time he left me alone, for months or even a few years, as if it was some kind of test or something, a test for which he just happened to forget to give me the rules first.
Dr. Matthew Baker |
Dr. Baker's lips thin as he hears that Savanna is a Malkavian. Its not displeasure precisely, but there's a hint of pity there. He's aware how few of his clan are as stable as him.
"" I'm sorry to hear that." He tells her, seemingly sincere. " I am as well. It can be a struggle to possess our blood, due to the preconceptions that come within it-- both inside and out of the clan. My own sire and I have a strained relationship at the best of times. While I lived, he was one of my patients. He embraced me in what I believe was a fit of vindictiveness, though perhaps he merely wished for me to understand him better. It was a struggle at first, but I'm pleased to report I adjusted to my new state wonderfully.I still maintain my practice and more importantly my sanity. Its one of the reasons we don't get along; he thought to drive me as mad as him, and was greatly displeased when he failed in that goal." A certain smugness fills the good doctor's tone.
"If you ever need to talk to someone, please feel free to reach out. I know this state is difficult for most of us, especially those of our blood." Matthew seems completely sincere and almost grandfatherly in this moment, though the slight gleam in his eyes betrays his excitement at having another kindred to potentially examine.
