From what I've seen, the family heir is 15 (or if we're starting slightly early, younger) at the point this story starts.
hustonj |
Well, with the assorted Lebeda relations we've been talking about, that tree actually shows relations between the characters. If I am understanding what Robert Henry meant about being the Lord's Bastard, then he is effectively the heir's older bastard brother. Absolutely NO CHANCE that will matter with 2 other bastards that would be his nieces as part of the crew, right?
Just that little bit of effort, and we've put a heavy tilt to what the long-term political games are likely to look like. Now, whether they will want to support or oppose the designated family heir could end up being quite the question.
Everybody doesn't have to get caught up into this sort of planning, of course. If you go back and look at the thread, only 1 of the 4 of us converted to a Lebeda idea because of the others. That means 3 of us started here . . .. PURE coincidence. I mean, heck, I made that choice roughly 9 years ago!
hustonj |
Character basics that I see in the good guys recruitment thread:
Abadaran Half-Orc Inquisitor (Lebeda Spawn [don't know if Bastard yet or not])
Abadaran Half-Elf Oracle (Lebeda Bastard)
Shelyn Catfolk Bard (Lebeda slave)
?? Human? Swashbuckler? (Lebeda Bastard)
---
?? Half-Elf Investigator (Surtova servant)
Torag Dwarven Paladin (no visible stats?)
Shelyn Half-Elf Cleric (Rostlander)
?? Dusk Elf Magus (No stats yet)
Amelia Coin |
You two coming up with family trees.
Me just being like "Yeah, I was a servant to the Surtova family."
Oh, just wait until I get to the outfits! To be fair, hustonj is coming up with the family tree, Black Dow and I are just attaching ourselves to it.
By the way, Hey there Mylok! You missed a chance to see if you could get into a game with Rissi's player and me in the Dalelands. If you're interested I'm applying to a game with Talienda over here. It's picking up after the Hangman's Noose game ends as far as her background goes.
Érme Coin |
All this looks superb folks.
Not sure on the place of origin - Absalom is a melting pot and Taldor works just as well for similar reasons. I’ve no leaning either way - as a player I know Taldor better than the great city.
Having Selenus works as our n'er-do-erstwhile father - like you say the younger scion with no prospect means he’d likely act irresponsibly and be an utter cad.
Emre’s mother was a half-orc, so her “orcishness” is weak and I’m still working on reflecting that in her traits etc. Being 23 she see’s herself as Amelia’s big sister and defacto protector.
Love the political spider’s web that’s being built around House Lebeda and the wider campaign implications. Kudos.
Amelia Coin |
Okay, I've updated Amelia's profile and background. I've added a section laying out how three different characters are related. I didn't include the branch that Drektan is now owned by, mainly because I was worried about making it a big mess.
In short, given the personalities of those involved on the PC side of things, this hopefully won't get to GoT levels of messy.
Okay, I don't really know either than well, but I do know a little bit more about Absolom. I don't think it's going to matter, so do you want to just roll for it, BD?
Also, check the discussion thread when you get a chance.

GM Tribute |
Thanks to those that have applied and hustonj for summarizing our recruitment at the moment. A teaser for the opening scene in gameplay.
Greatwall was the name used to describe the southern border keep placed strategically on the Western Shore of the East Sellen River as the river flowed out of Brevoy. The river kingdoms were a wild place, and Greatwall was a keep that made sure the wild elements stayed out of the precious lands controlled by House Lebeda. The East Sellen River was a very important trade artery, and Greatwall was a stronghold built to ensure it stayed protected.
You think of your future in Greatwall, and before your summons, it was fairly bleak. Perhaps you were one of the original farmers and watched it transform into a war-forged stronghold. Maybe you were a deserter or soldier who spent his term and ended up here. Maybe you arrived on one of the major merchant caravans that still passed through the trade routes to the east. Although war makes trading dangerous, it also makes it profitable. Maybe you were part of the numerous contingent of Abadar or from a small Erastil shrine. Could you have been sent to further House Lebeda's interest in maintaining control of this vital trade route?
Maria K and Remis look pretty good. I will wait till the end of next weekend to make the final decisions.
I plan on placing further information in spoilers that require some Knowledge skills to know in the future about Greatwall.
Linnes |
The taxmen were unhappy to put it mildly when they discovered her among the grains. Taking the young girl to the guard; she was forced to work a great many weeks before her father came; disowning her on the spot and leaving her to the mercy of the guard. She was handed off to one of the Greatwall's healers to assist her with whatever injuries the woman dealt with.
She learned a few tricks and techniques from her stint there; getting into trouble with the local toughs when the guards weren't around. Over time; the woman and guards started teaching Linnes the basics of fighting and lore involving the planes and healing... and one day she was summoned by House Lebeda; to a great many people's surprise... perhaps they thought it time the now adult girl to repay the small amount of taxes owed with some interest?
Can edit if it is unpalatable; just something I threw together.
Karina Zayatevya |
OK, I almost applied with this character to the “other” thread because even though she’s a paladin she’s not you’re typical do-goodie sort. But she does have the LG there so – gritted teeth - I think she belongs in this thread. Her backstory is kind of long, I started writing and it was hard to stop but I hope it's worth the read.
As a full BAB she can mix it up in close or at a distance, and with Wis as her power stat she has ok perception and sruvival skills, no trapfinding though. She also has decent stealth - like I said sh’es not your typical paladin.
GM Tribute |
Karina seems a good fit here, there may be problems in the other group.
Code of Conduct
Associates: While she may adventure with good or neutral allies, a paladin avoids working with evil characters or with anyone who consistently offends her moral code. Under exceptional circumstances, a paladin can ally with evil associates, but only to defeat what she believes to be a greater evil. A paladin should seek an atonement spell periodically during such an unusual alliance, and should end the alliance immediately should she feel it is doing more harm than good. A paladin may accept only henchmen, followers, or cohorts who are lawful good.

Yep, that's why I stuck with this group :)
@Elfriede - I had a lot of fun playing a LG charcter in a Hells Rebels game with a bunxh of CG/CN types, she was thi big sister/parent keeping teh group on the rails. The problem with being a paladin for a less good group is the risk yuo end up policing everone else, like if the group decide to torture someone for information that's an evil act and you cant be part of that or you fall. Even if you just "go for a long walk" youre still complicit and most GMs I think wpuld not be ok with that. Liek I said, I *almost* put in for the other group but I think it would be a chalenge - and worse, risk spoiling the fun for the other players.

I have an idea, but I'm holding it for now; the stated deadline is the 30th, I have bandwidth for maybe 1 more active campaign, and I'm in 3 recruitments already...

will risk bringing up a controversial subject, CR balance. Kingmaker explicitly warns that the sandbox nature may make encounters possibly more difficult and not CR balanced depending on the luck of exploration picks. GMs are instructed to warn players when they are going into dangerous areas they should leave for later. I will keep railroading to a minimum while trying to avoid allowing either group to jump in way over their head.
Many 1E pathfinder groups I have run seem determined to fight things out despite all odds. Kingmaker encourages subtle clues to indicate a high CR encounter like Keep out Signs with skull and crossbones.
Five days to go!

Will be here, but there's likely to be a delay of a day or so from me on responses. A friend of mine who's been battling cancer for some time passed away today. Not a complete surprise, but still upsetting, obviously.
I'm not the GM, but I just want to say:
These games can never be as important as real life or the real people we keep around us. If the choice is between living your life and typing about a character living theirs, PLEASE choose living your life.
Even the parts no one likes, such as helping other friends deal with the loss of a common friend.
Our real lives have to take priority.

Or you can start without a diety and have the cleric convince you their religon is a good one. If there are two divine characters in the party, you can shop for the best deal!! Find out which one gives free beer (yes, that CG diety has a big edge with free beer for everyone!!)
Or you can be a curmudgeon and not like any of them...I'm still weighing my options.
edit: But the Cayden Cailean Ranger combat style 'Faithful' is looking awful good.

First, thank you for all the great character selections. I have read much of the Kingmaker AP and think it is very well written and does an amazing job of making a sandbox.
As I hate to disappoint, we are going with three groups. We may select down to two groups for Kingmaker Chapter 1, but I can promise everyone a good and surprising book zero prelude.

I am rerecruiting for up to three level 2 characters to attempt the Kingmaker Adventure Path and join three characters that did a prequel adventure to get them to level 2. As a quick reminder Kingmaker was quite innovative as it introduced a Sandbox adventure with a kingdom building twist. The players guide for 1E Pathfinder should be still available in the marketplace for free -- and I recommend prospective applicants review it if they are new to this Adventure Path.
We started with three tables, and attrition has us down to three characters. That is the nature of PbP games!! Luckily we have three very good players covering divine and arcane spellcasting along with rogue skills (swashbuckling too). Martial characters are greatly preferred. As the evil table experiment ended so poorly, no evil characters.
This AP will have a posting requirement of once per weekday with the ability to have your character botted by me during real life emergency periods. The character generation will be standard 15 point buy (no minimums as low stats add RP flavor to characters) with all Paizo material in bounds (no third party), and I encourage characters to include the campaign traits provided and consider recommendations for characters in the player guide. I will admit I am biased to standard races, but the occasional tengu, catfolk, or ratfolk will be considered.
