Background:

Amelia was born to a down-on-her-luck elf who'd slept with a passing nobleman. It wasn't long after the girl was weaned that she was given over to the church of Abadar, presumably as payment for the debts she owed. What became of the forlorn elf that was her mother would forever be a mystery to Amelia. Now an orphan, she was given the surname of Coin.

Amelia spent her childhood learning. While she was a smart child, with a voracious appetite for books, she lacked common sense. During her studies, she was paired with Emre, a half-orc girl that was as meticulous as Amelia was prone to flights of whimsy. The pair of them became fast friends and were almost inseparable. Emre, being a year older, adopted the role of a big sister, protecting Amelia as best she could.

One day, some robbers with more chutzpah than sense tried to rob the Bank of Abadar Amelia and Emre studied at. It was the first time Amelia witnessed violence in her life. The would-be robbers took her hostage and demanded sacks of gold in exchange for sparing the young girl. One of the guards saw an opportunity and took it. He freed Amelia, but in the process was badly wounded. The robbers fled, having lost their bargaining chip.

Amelia scrambled over to the bleeding guard and tried to think of what to do. She had no experience nor knowledge of the arts of healing. She called for help and prayed to Abadar that the man's life would be spared. Her prayer was answered. Golden light flashed as divine power flowed through Amelia and into the guard. His wound was healed as if a cleric had prayed over it. Amelia collapsed when the light faded. The healers found her feverish on the cold marble floor.

Amelia had been chosen by the gods, but their choice did not come without a cost. Over the next month, Amelia had trouble focusing, almost feeling nauseous at times. The healers could do nothing for her, and the medicines they tried either did nothing or made it worse. She learned to grin and bare the discomfort, but it always nagged at her.

It wasn't until Emre and Amelia were invited to a gala being thrown by the family of the guard she saved that a cure for Amelia's sickness was found. Amelia felt the illness lift as soon as she put on the dress that had been picked for her. It and the jewelry were no cheap thing, costing several months salary of even a skilled Banker. Amelia took it as a sign that she had to do well, to climb the ranks and prove herself to be worthy of such finery. She knew, of course, that Emre would have to be there to help her and keep her in line.

The day they were inducted as full bankers of the Church of Abadar, Amelia gifted Emre a silver holy symbol, one that she had saved up for and had commissioned by a jeweler in Absolom. Engraved around the imagery on the key was a simple prayer, "Be a beacon in the dark, a light of civilization in untamed wilds. May the Gold-Fisted and Judge of the Gods find you ever just, and may you never lose your heart." On the back is a simple engraving. "To my sister Emre, more precious than gold, more brilliant than gems. From Amelia." Little did Amelia know, Emre had done the same. It is a gift she would treasure more than any accolades or treasures that could be heaped upon her by the church.

The years passed and the two young women grew to have a minor reputation among the Bankers. Though she was not trained as a Collector, the Archbankers assigned her to be Emre's partner after hearing of how well they worked together. Amelia's knowledge and charm served as counterpoint to Emre's skills at intimidation and ferreting out lies. They excelled at whatever task they were given, working hard when raw talent was not enough. It seemed that their rise would last forever.

Fate, though, is a fickle one.

The Incident, as it came to be known by all involved, is seldom spoken of. It ruined the reputations of both Emre and Amelia, and earned their banishment to Brevoy. It was the lowest point in Amelia's life, and if not for Emre, her friend and partner, she might have fallen lower, especially when she overheard the two of them being called the Tarnished Coins by a few acolytes that had been jealous of their meteoric rise.

While they prepared for the trek north, the both of them learned that they were half-sisters. More than that, they learned that their father was a nobleman, one Selenus Lebeda, the younger brother of the recently late Lord Censius Lebeda. Comments made by both girls' mothers had prompted the church to look into the matter when they were left at the doorstep of the temple. As a last favor to the pair, one of their old teachers passed along the information and suggested they see what contacts they could make with the noble family.

A new plan came to mind and they volunteered to be liasons to House Lebeda as the first step towards rebuilding their reputations. As they researched what they could, they learned of a claim that their father's family had on some land to the south of Brevoy. The land was wild, but if they could tame it and make it a center of trade. Horses were secured and they made their way north to start anew and rebuild their reputations with the backing of House Lebeda.

First, however, they would need to prove themselves to Dame Sarrona Lebeda, wife of the late Lord Censius Lebeda and the regent of the young Lord Lander Lebeda. Shortly after arriving at Silverhall, she sent them both to Greatwall to handle a matter there for the family. It was a test, the two of them knew, and Amelia was determined to not fail in her task this time.

Personality:

Motivations:
1. To rebuild her reputation with the church of Abadar.
2. To prove that she is worthy of the claim that she and Emre lay on their father's birthright.

Amelia is a kind yet ambitious woman. She knows that she's limited in what she can do without power or money, and seeks to acquire both. Despite her ambition, and her taste in fine clothing, she does her best to be fair and do good for those less fortunate than her, often framing her charity as investments to make it more palatable to the more dogmatic of Abadar's faithful.

Her curse manifests as a desire to put her best foot forward. If she's in clothing and jewelry that she feels isn't worthy of her station, she frets and falls ill. She fears being seen as a pretender, so she works hard to prove herself worthy of the treasure and position she aspires to. If she falls short, she beats herself up. If she fails through no fault of her own, she'll do whatever she can to prepare for the next time.

She often confides in Emre her fears and doubts. The two are close, and Emre is Amelia's best friend and the person she's been friends with the longest. Emre's reticent nature often causes Amelia to feel frustrated, especially when she can tell something is bothering her sister. She fears nothing more than disappointing Emre and accepts her "tough love" without complaint most of the time.

Amelia's lack of physical strength and endurnace was especially taxing on Amelia during her and Emre's trip to Brevoy. More often than not she was little help setting up their camp and tearing it down the next morning. This has left Amelia desperate to prove she's not dead weight ti Emre more than ever.

Amelia's cloistered upbringing has left gaps in her knowledge and experience. She can come off as naive, and she will exhaust herself to prevent others from hurting. She is a stranger to violence and prone to panic when she is the target of it. Almost as much as she fears being or being seen as a pretender, she fears being a burden to her companions.
