"Captain Harlock, a moment? First I must thank you for our passage and safe voyage. All trips across the sea are not without incident, and while we had some 'encounters' I am quite pleased with the outcomes."[b]
It is hard to know if Jacen's dragonmark is suddenly showing by accident ...
[b]"I know that you could take the young man who we rescued to an orphanage, perhaps even indenture him for his rescue. I wondered though, perhaps in recompense for the additional value I paid in passage, if my team & I might simply take him with us and relieve you of the burden. We can offer him vocational training, and at the end of our contract, I can personally take him to his family in Stormreach if needed."

I guess we never asked about distinguishing features ... which Mark is it?

Karsh'e |

Karsk'e listens to the exchange with some interest. While he does he can't help but contrast Jacen with the agents of House Tharashk who 'prospected' in the marshy Marches.

Lia eberron |

"Hmm.. Well, we have no means to get you back to Stormreach quickly. Unless you have another option you can say with us. I am unsure exactly how long it will be before we get back there though."
Awesome map!

The mark of storm, he's House Lyrandar.

Karsh'e |

Karsh'e shuffles so that he's behind the young man. He looks more closely at the tatoo-like mark. The marks are important somehow, and linked to the great dragonmarked houses. House Tharashk certainly threw their weight around the Shadow Marches. And one couldn't live long in Sharn, even in the gutters, without absorbing some idea of the importance of the Houses.
But the marks could be a vulnerablility also.
The half-orc drops a hand to his belt, and waits to see how this revelation changes the dynamic of this situation.

Jacen is clearly WILDLY curious about the young man's Mark ...
"Young Master d'Lyrandar, I beg your pardon. Sincerely. Hopefully you know that our care for you was genuine, but I also meant no disrespect to your station either. I also bear the Mark of my House, I am Jacen d'Orien, at your service."
Jacen's bow to the young man is deferential, and highly calculated. It would seem there is quite a dynamic between scions of Houses.
"When you said family, and Stormreach, I will be honest, I was more focused on your wellness than your place in society. I hope that can be forgiven. As it stands, you are released to join us and we would be glad of your aid. If you feel that you want to immediately begin travel to your family, I can help you get back to Sharn and sail from there."

"I just want to return to Stormreach so I can continue my training as a navigator," the boy says. "All I need is five gold to buy transport on a Lyrandar galleon borne to Stormreach. Thank you for your care. Can you escort me to a Sivis station so I can tell my Uncle and cousins that I'm on my way?"

Jacen d'Orien |

Lia smiles, "I'm sure master d'Orien will be happy to pay your way. How far to the nearest station?"
"My instincts say the lad won't actually need to pay for passage, but yes, I would be glad to help pay Sivis. This is the capitol of Darguun, and while it doesn't have many of the conveniences we are used to in Sharn, the Houses do maintain a presence here."
Jacen smiles ...
"The rumours say the Bloody Market can be quite colorful. Shall we be about it then?"

Lia smiles, "I'm sure master d'Orien will be happy to pay your way. How far to the nearest station?"
"I'm not sure, I haven't been in the Bloody Market before," says the boy. "Call me Elindil."
He is wearing some nice shorts, and a nice shirt, provided to him by Captain Harlock. The shorts are made of tweed, and are brown. They are also quite short, perfect for a tropical setting like southern Darguun. The shirt is a light blue.

The merchants have guards around about, and the place is lively with goblins and hobgoblins. Haggling is common here, though the goblins and hobgoblins are often armed with swords or daggers. There are a few slaves being sold here, mostly human and other goblins.

Escher. |

Escher naturally moves to the outside where he can protect everybody. "I do know the goblin tongue, but I'm not the best at dealing with people."
He'll scan the sky to see if they have a dock for airships. He doesn't expect anything major, but it would make sense to have someplace to tie up. That would lead us to House Lyrandar.

Karsh'e |

Karsh'e follows the party. From the rear he can see them all and look at the market at the same time. It doesn't take him long to form an assessment. "This is a bad place. We need to look strong, but not challenging. "
Mindful of this he walks with his hands close to his belt, ready to grab his whip or sword. His pack cranks softly with each step.

Roll perception checks to find a House Lyrandar air ship. DC 19. No, I'll do it.
Escher perception check: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16

"Got it." he says to Karsh'e. An adamantine-clad warforged surrounded by a glistening shell of ectoplasm was likely exotic enough to deter casual aggression. He wears his shield ready and chackram at his belt. He didn't manifest his mind blade, but adamantine fists would hit like a hammer.
What's more, this attitude was his job. Keep perceptive and make sure people knew his charges were defended.
"All these banners block the sky. We need a clearer section."
perception for threats: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11

You're ability to present a strong, but non-threatening look works. Although there are a lot of goblinoids in the area, you can't tell who is a threat or not. You do know that the Bloody Market is a dangerous place. Since the destruction of Cyre, the Bloody Market has become one of the places in Khorvaire where anything is bought and sold. The Bloody Market rivals the markets of Sharn and Fairhaven.

Karsh'e |

Karsh'e taps Lia on the shoulder. When he has her attention, he steps out of line and approaches a hobgoblin shopkeeper. He holds up a silver coin.
"Where is the airship dock?"

the hobgoblin points to the northeast. "That way," he says, nonchalantly.

Karsh'e |

"Thanks." Karsh'e flips the goblin the silver, and returns to the group.
"Goblin says the airship dock is that way."
Do we get a new round of perception checks?

Jacen d'Orien |

I'm feeling lucky!!!!
[dice=perception] 1d20+5Lia steps around the next building and looks up. "Ah, how could we have missed that before?"
"That's a really really good question, first day back on land maybe? We didn't do a lot of shopping on the ship ..."
Jacen smiles sheepishly
"But let's get going. Maybe Lyrander was the best next move anyway. Flying to the border of the Mournland sounds pretty good right now."

Beren Lonn |

Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
Beren walks through the market, trying to keep up, but at the same time a little apart. He knows the goblin language and listens to conversations here and there. What are people talking about on the streets?

[dice=Perception]1d20 + 7
Beren walks through the market, trying to keep up, but at the same time a little apart. He knows the goblin language and listens to conversations here and there. What are people talking about on the streets?
They are talking about the find of a lifetime. Someone found a schema in the depths of Sharn, and the Korrenberg Chronicle is abuzz with the news. Some of them are talking about their families -- yes goblins and hobgoblins do have families. While most people believe they breed (and with much success!), hobgoblins and goblins sometimes marry. They are also talking about how the Emerald Claw has taken up to digging at an old dwarf quarry north of here.

Beren Lonn |

Even some of the locals are discussing the schema found in Sharn. Beren will whisper gloomily, "inadvertently" catching up with the others. And there's an Emerald Claw hanging around. Where they are there are problems.

Karsh'e |

"Then it's a good thing we are looking for your family's hold fast in Cyre before the war." Karsh'e cocks his head at the human gunslinger. "Aren't we?"

Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
As the group moves, Lambda pans it head back and forth mechanically, looking and listening to the area. Somehow it never missing a step while doing so.
Lambda, you see a group of hobgoblins and a bugbear looking for a fight. They are three hobgoblins and one bugbear. They want to tussle with the party, their reasons for doing so is unknown. But presumably, it's a racist reason.

Karsh'e |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Karsh'e has met few hobgoblins, but their tone is one he knows -- and doesn't like. Weakness will lead to a fight; challenge, also. His hand moves to his sword's hilt.
"You don't miss much," Karsh'e tells the second hobgoblin. He nods at the first, " And you are either trying to stir up trouble, or you're stupid. Did you expect us to just fold like wet straw?"

EltonJ |

How are they armed and armored? Anything particularly high quality?
They are armed with machetes. Weapons designed to hack (they do 1d6 damage). Only the three hobgoblins are wearing any sort of armor, and it's leather armor (AC 13). The bugbear relies on his natural hide.

Beren Lonn |

Beren saw a lot of scum in the alleys of Sharn, where the sun never hits, and was never afraid of them. As a military commissar, even before that, he had seen many scum from among the deserters and looters. And the essential difference between the latter and the former was that murder was their profession. But he always managed, both there and there.
Do you know what is the difference between a city and a rural area? In the war, when we captured a prisoner somewhere in a war zone, we needed to get information. But we were not allowed to make a fire, and without a hot iron, torture becomes very tedious. Besides, it was impossible to allow the prisoner to scream, it could lead someone on our trail. But the cities... Cities are something completely different. You can make a fire here. And there are plenty of deep basements where you can scream until you rip your throat out, but absolutely no one will hear you. All this time, Beren is boring into the hobgoblins with a hard look. And then he smiles terribly. It is not the smile itself that causes horror, but the absence of a hint of a smile in the eyes, as if he is an animated soulless doll. I love cities... And you guys?

Jacen d'Orien |

sooooooooooooo I made a great post yesterday, which is not here now of course, apparently eaten, but I need to own that I like Beren's post better, so I'm okay with it
"Well, truth be told, I actually really do love Sharn. Not for all of the same reasons as you Beren, but wow, your reasons could grow on me. Which is great really, because even passing through a sh*thole like this sucks, yet now you've given it some flavour, well, a flavour other than sh*t."
Jacen smiles. Jacen's smile is the other scary. The scary of someone enjoying a bad thing. Jacen's hands begin to glow ...
"To me it sounded as though my friend wants to take at least one of you alive, and I hate to disappoint people. But magic missles don't miss, and there are several of you. Who should go down first?"

Escher. |

Escher wouldn't have gone so hard, but he does take note of their phrasing for future writing projects. Still, he's going to back up their play by letting his ectoplasm ripple and flow. It crystalizes into the form of a sword, which he lays on his shoulder.
1d20 ⇒ 15

EltonJ |

Jacen and Beren, although you were both dripping with sarcasm, I do need you to make intimidate checks against a DC of 15. The people of Darguun are racist. They believe that goblins, hobgoblins, and bugbears are superior and all other races are inferior.
If one of you aids the other, you get a +2 circumstance bonus. Escher, you can simply aid one of the other two with your ectoplasmic display.
